I was 14 in 1988. Prior to this I skated just as transportation. One night flipping through the channels this very contest was on espn. I’ve never seen or heard anyone doing tricks on skateboards. After it was over I became hooked. Went outside and tried to mimic things I just seen. From there got introduced to Powell videos, H-Street and Natas Kaupas. Last trick I learned was the 360 flip in 92. I quit not long afterwards but always wished I continued skating. It’s in my blood even til this day.

Commentator miscalled so many tricks. Still a great video. For me nostalgia is almost torture in today's world. I'll take it.

Back in the day, we only had Thrasher Magazine to look at so of course, I thought Hawk was better. Once you see the video of the fluid power and style of Hosoi, you can see who wuz better. Even Tony knows his 540 quick spin was not proper like Hosoi's 540's full tuck, upsidedown McTwist.

@@lewokejames I was loyal to Thrasher and I never spent money on VHS tapes coz I would spend my money on weed. Someone I knew bought the Chin Video so I was able to see that when it came out.

Yeah but at least he turned his life around and is doing well now. It is a shame though. Easily would've been where Hawk went in terms of breaking into the longterm mainstream and Hawk would've been playing second-fiddle to Hosoi. Would've had "Christian Hosoi's Pro Skater" you know? lol
