Hey ! Salut à vous compatriotes du passé ! 0:47 : I was not looking at my screen and when I heard "Français ?" I immediately looked back x) It would be cool if those two girls happen to watch this video and realize the man they briefly talked with posted the video 27 years later.

Hi! I remember wishing I could speak French when I met them through the camera. Watching again just now, I found myself waving at the screen when they waved at the future.... Sorry I haven't been to your exhibitions since the one in the Okuno Building - I've been quite busy with things (long story). I hope to see your exhibitions again in the future!

Your videos from the 90's are amazing. When I watch the longest ones (30 to 50mn) I really feel like I've travelled back to 1990 thanks to the 1st person view and when I stop watching I'm like "Oh wait, this is 2018 !". This feeling was even stronger while watching this video with those 2 girls "waving at the future" as you said. Where are they and what's their life like now ? We'll never get the answer but they will always be here, frozen in time, as part of history.

I'm really happy to read your comment. What I most wanted to do back then was enable the viewer to feel like they were there, so it's great to hear that's how it felt for you. I'll try writing some more later - right now I'm super tired and need to get to bed. Thanks again!!

One of the things I end up pondering from time to time (usually when asked why I took street videos back then) is what I thought about while taking the material at the time, and then what I think about when watching them all these years later. There was a lot of demolition of old structures back then, so when I recorded old wooden neighborhoods, I knew they would soon be gone, and when I watch those now, there is nothing surprising about the experience of looking back via Video Time Machine. There are other things I recorded though, that I expected not to change, and sometimes it's kind of disorienting to look back and try to comprehend the changes and the flow of time....
