Very nostalgic car for me. My grandpa had a Favorit, my other grandpa had a Favorit Prima, and my dad had a Forman. Great video as always, Joe!

My dad used to own a Favorit too, but he sold it because gas was getting more expensive :( Edit: I still remember him being so happy when he first got it, it was his favorite car out of all the cars he drove.

Zdravím polské bratry z Česka! :) I totally love your video. I have driven the exact same Favorit as an university student between 2014-2016 almost every day. Looking at this old rubber steering wheel and eating some student meal on it or learning for tests during lunch breaks inside the car was my everyday student story on a parking lots in Olomouc. I have had both versions - the carburateur (shown in your video) and later even the younger facelift with BMM Bosch mono motronic injection system and better looking dashboard and black plastics inside the car. I absolutely love that familiar cliking of the blinkers, that sound of 1.3 engine (later used in Felicias) and hunderts of squeeking and strange noises every minute of driving. I must say Favorit is my most popular Škoda model. It was incredibely cheap, quite relibale, gas consumption was good about 7 litres/100 km and in the winter the heating system was an absolute beast! I sold my last Favorit in 2018 and now I own only Citroën models from 90s and I do not like Škoda cars anymore expect these old ones (Favorit, Felicia), before VW f...d that brand up. Your video made me literally happy and smiling. Thank you for it!

Favorit, fakoř, fávo, fafen a podobně. První model české automobilky Škoda s motorem v předu. Motor se nezměnil má koncepci ještě z roku 1970, ale byl konstruován na to aby byl odolný, nebyl problém nájezd i 800 000km a více. Což u starých vozidel typu Škoda 120 byl velký problém. Karoserii navrhoval Bertone. Testovaný model je nejslabší z produkce, 40kW. Během let se vyráběly vozdila s výkonem, 40, 42, 43, 46, a 50 kW. Dle toho jaké bylo zapalování a zda směs připravoval karburátor a nebo vstřikování. Dle videa se jednalo asi o tu nejméně vybavenou verzi. Do zahraničí se vyvážely modely se lepšími sedačkama. Od 1.1993 dostal Favorit nový interié, celý černý, novou palubní desku a grafiku ukazatelů. Změnila se i maska a zadek vozidla. Šlo jen o kosmetické úpravy, (znak na zadních dveřích ), vpředu jiný prolis masky nasávaného vzduchu. V interiéru jiné materiály. Škoda Favorit a její verze combi s názvem Forman dostala spousty verzí výbavy. Od úplně té nejnižší až po vozy s 6 repro, radiem Blaupunkt, bočníma lištama, tonované skla, ostřikovače světel, střešní okno, centrální zamykání, střešní nosiče, mlhovky chránné mřížkou, zadní spoiler, tonované přední sklo s tmavým pruhem, kožený paket (volant, řadící páka ). Z dnšeního pohledu je to málo, na tehdejší dobu a problémy s materiálem to bylo luxusní lidové vozidlo. Kufr byl obrovský, po sklopení sedaček ještě větší.....u modelu s názvem Forman jste po sklopení sedaček mohly stěhovat cokoliv. Bylo to bezproblémové vozidlo, na současné poměry bez výbavy, na druhou stranu se nemělo co pokazit. Jediný problém po 200 000km byl těsnění pod hlavou motoru. Oprava za 100 euro v té době. A zase se jezdilo dál. 3/4 oprav šlo udělat doma. Stačilo pár klíčů a šroubovák popřípadě něco navíc. Ještě podotknu že jsi celou cestu nesvítil. To první tlačítko vlevo zapíná světla, pokud není zamáčkuté tak ty další ztrácejí funkci. Krásné retro video.........ačkoliv kdysi běžného favorita tak dnes už vzácného. Pokud by se ti podařilo sehnat někoho s Favoritem nebo Formanem třeba s označením Black/Silver/Green/Solitaire line nebo Million Edition tak určitě udělej recenzi. A pokud by jsi narazil na Favorit MTX Roadster tak je to klenot a spousty lidí rádo video uvidí. Bohužel je jich asi něco kolem 200 kusů. Děkuji za krásné video. (engineering said) Favorit, fakor, fávo, fafen, etc. The first model of the Czech Škoda car company with an engine in the front. The engine hasn't changed it's concept from 1970, but it was designed to be durable, there was no problem mileage even 800 000km and more. Which was a big problem with the old Skoda 120. The bodywork was designed by Bertone. The model tested is the weakest of the production run, 40kW. Over the years, 40, 42, 43, 46, and 50 kW were produced. Depending on the ignition and whether the mixture was prepared by carburetor or injection. According to the video, it was probably the least equipped version. Models with better seats were exported abroad. From 1.1993 the Favorit got a new interior, all black, new dashboard and graphics. The bonnet and the rear of the car were also changed. It was only a cosmetic modification (rear door emblem), different front air intake grille. Inside, different materials. The Skoda Favorit and its combi version called Forman received many equipment versions. From the very lowest one to cars with 6 speakers, Blaupunkt radio, side mouldings, tinted glass, headlight washers, sunroof, central locking, roof racks, fog lights protected by a grille, rear spoiler, tinted windscreen with dark stripe, leather package (steering wheel, gear lever ). From today's point of view it's not enough, for that time and material problems it was a luxury folk vehicle. The trunk was huge, even bigger when the seats were folded down.....u model called Forman you could move anything when the seats were folded down. It was a trouble free vehicle, by contemporary standards, with no equipment, on the other hand nothing could go wrong. The only problem after 200,000km was the gasket under the engine head. A 100 euro repair at the time. 3/4 of the repairs could be done at home. Just a couple of wrenches and a screwdriver or something extra. I'll point out that you didn't have a light on the whole trip. The first button on the left turns on the lights, if it's not pressed, the other ones lose their function. Lovely retro video.........though once a common favourite, now rare. If you can get hold of someone with a Favorite or Forman maybe with the Black/Silver/Green/Solitaire line or Million Edition markings then by all means do a review. And if you come across a Favorit MTX Roadster it's a gem and lots of people would love to see the video. Unfortunately there are probably something like 200 of them. That 1.3 seems like a remarkably good match for the car. Great gearing too! Happy it has a 5th gear or you'd have bleeding ears but jeez, that thing responds smoothly for a 1.3. Impressed!

They were great, the torque curve is contunuous just like as if it was a diesel. And the gearbox in the Favorit is the best gearbox fitted to a "people's car". So easy to use and so precise. There was also the Favorit 136 version (1987-1991), which had a tougher final gear ratio (3.895 vs. 4.167 in the 135 Favorit), which allowed the car to be much quieter (in 100kph it would rev something around 2 200rpm. The Favorit is all mechanical car and the people designing it gave it a fine tune with the help of Porsche of course.

It is the 1991/2 Favorit, this front grille was introduced in 1991 after VW bought into Skoda to make the Favorit look like the Passat.

Very nostalgic car. My grandpa had one from new, year 1990. He had to stay in a line for two days at the Škoda plant just to get a chance to buy it. Crazy to think he only had one car his whole life for 30 years.. It finally broke down in 2018 when rust had completely eaten the chassis and it was unsafe to drive.

Nice video :) one small correction from the description: the fuel tank in this (and all carburettor) cars was 47 litres. 42 litres stands for the fuel injected versions, where the 5 litres are occupied by the in built electric fuel pump unit, thus making the fuel tank capacity lower. The carburettor cars have a mechanical camshaft driven fuel pump mounted on the engine bloc.

@@eulliric3093 No, the Favorit only had petrol engines, all of them were variations of the Skoda 1.3l. The first Skoda to have a diesel was Felicia, which had the VW AEF 1.9D engine.

This year I bought a similar Favorit from 1989 after the first owner, only the paintwork is unfortunately quite faded. I paid about 500 euro 😁 old Polish license plates are really cool 😍

La Skoda Favorit, c'était la première traction avant de la marque. C'est aussi le dernier modèle conçue par Skoda avant que Volkswagen rachète le constructeur Tchèque. Je me souviens que ce modèle c'était plutôt bien vendue en France. Une alternative par rapport à ses concurrentes à l'époque. C'était Bertone qui avait dessiné la Favorit. Très bonne vidéo Joe.

how much range do you have with a reserve tank? As far as I can see, the light on the fuel gauge always flashes... I had the same one 22 years ago and was driving on the freeway and it happened to me that I stopped on the emergency lane

I don't think you lit up... If I remember correctly, you have to press both of the switches on the left to turn on headlights. The first one is for parking lights in front and back but the second doesn't work without the first. Anyway, thanks for the memories!

Firstly it's Škoda, not Skoda. We had the Škoda 120, Favorit(1.3) and Felicia (1.6). This is the last actually Czech car. I have driven it on few occasions and I must say, it kinda holds well, even for today standarts. Its not really fast or anything, but as a basic everyday car it was great. Yea the fuel consumption was around 8-9 liters etc etc, but we actually drove in it 2000kms on a trip and it held up fine. No electronics so anything that happens you are able to repair.
