These came out when I was 6, almost 7. We went down to the dealership afterhours to look at it because the internet didn't exist back then. I stood there for a half hour, face pressed to the glass, just...in awe, staring at this crazy car. In a world of Chrysler K cars, boxy trucks, fox mustangs and 3rd gen camaros this car blew my damn mind. I recorded, on vhs, motor trend and car and driver's weekly tv shows in hopes I'd catch the one with the review of the viper. I bought my first car and driver magazine just to see pictures of it. To a car kid in the early 90s, the Diablo, F40, and McLaren F1 were dream cars but there was no chance of ever seeing one in real life in a small town in Arkansas. Growing up in the 90's I always loved these cars. When I was 10 I was lucky enough to catch a ride in one. Family friend owned a detail shop and was good friends with the viper owner. My dad set it up and surprised me when he took me to the shop. What a thrill for me as child. Definitely lit the flame to my addiction with cars.

Only as dangerous as the driver. I've driven lots of 440 powered Mopes from 84-2000 even in Wisconsin winters..when they weren't yet worth a gold mine and had only a few slide offs. A lil care and quality tires and accidents..amazingly..go down :) lol

Owned a '94 with modified headers and cams... Was about 600hp to the rear. Was going across alligator ally and decided to open it up. Was in 5th going about 167 and saw a car way up ahead in the same lane. White knuckled doesn't even begin to describe the king-fu action figure grip I had on the wheel. The other car in the same lane was doing about 80....which means it was coming at me at about 80+mph.... Changing lanes at that speed was nerve wracking.... Nearly sh*t myself. Bucket list item checked off.... I'll never hit that speed again in a car!

"Don't think you should be focusing on heel-toeing..." That's the reason why so may of them crashed, dude. People driving a serious car with inept technique before the invention of electronic driver aids. Downshifting under braking with no rev-match (aka neglecting to heel-toe) will lock the rear wheels of this car and cause it to spin out with no possibility of correction. There is literally video of this happening on a track with this very car (and some inept driver) somewhere on youtube. Just because the car doesn't have automatic rev matching and 10 different kinds of traction control and stability assist doesn't mean its inherently dangerous. It just means you maybe have to know how to drive manual fully as a bare minimum in order to drive it safely. If one more person implies that heel-toe is some kind of "advanced" manual technique I'm going to declare driving culture officially dead.

I always loved the Dodge Viper (but not the newer ones). I first saw the Viper as a concept car at the Minneapolis Auto Show in the 90's and fell in love with it. Then someone told me about the Plymouth Prowler and I switched focus. I bought the Prowler instead and still have my 1999 Plymouth Prowler and I constantly get the looks like you did @ 07:54 The only problems I've had with my Prowler was [both} window regulators had to be fixed. Other than that, "nothing" else wrong. I love it. !! :) But now .... after watching this video, I think I'll buy a Viper and add it to my garage. :)

I've always wanted one of these. My dad and I went to a road trip in one back in the late 90s, as he had dealership connections and was able to borrow the owner's personal Viper. Despite having driven in NASCAR alongside Petty and Junior, he said the Viper was the scariest vehicle he had ever driven.

@@dr.lyleevans6915 funny you say that! I'm looking at a few '10- '15 911 Turbo$ and thinking I may just get a 10-15 year old Viper instead.
@dr.lyleevans69155 жыл бұрын
Shane Husack Now that I’m older, I would likely do the same. If you already have a daily driver, and the sports car is for weekends, go Viper. It won’t decrease in value either (which is important!). My Porsche cost $1600 per service for what amounted to little more than an oil change (10.5 quarts of Mobil1 iirc) Edit: on second thought, 2010-2015 911 (997.2 ? 991 maybe?) Turbos are next level, even compared with the last Viper models. It comes down to preference I suppose. All generations of Viper with exception to Gen 5 and possibly Gen 4 have likely depreciated about as low as they are going to and will hold or increase their value. The Viper will be cheaper to buy and maintain as well, but not be as reliable (Porsche’s are surprisingly reliable, but expensive to maintain). The Porsche will be more “practical”, comfortable, safer, but not as raw/visceral, and won’t attract quite as much attention (I’m sure you already know most of this). Really just a matter of preference. Vipers get your testosterone pumping like nothing else though.
