That center brake light looks like the ZR-1 unit, so yes it is from a C4, just not any old C4.

This is cool. My uncle had a non-convertible Mark VIII; really weird cars. They _look_ like they are small, but aren't. And the interior _looks_ like it should be cramped, but it isn't. One of the few cars with bucket seats that I've ever sat in that I thought was comfortable. I also definitely wouldn't consider this comparable to a Town Car; _very_ different beasts in my opinion. In 1994, this was a forward-looking Euro-inspired sports coupe, while the Town Car was a throwback to an American automotive era that ended over a decade prior. If you compare the two cars side-by-side, they don't even look like they are from the same manufacturer.

huh, it reminds me of when i was owning my 04 mustang where i thought it would be a big car bit it isn't. the same Can be said for the interior. so strange how we see things and it's all just some illusion or hallucination or some shit ahh man

If this thing was a manual transmission conversion it would officially be the wildest modded Lincoln ever.

Hmm, yet another fascinating find, even if the conversion isn't ideal speaking of execution (those "half-frameless" doors, i.e.). Did MN12 Thunderbird and Cougar have that kind of conversion as well? That 3rd brake light seems to be kinda useless because of huge fake spare tire hump🤔

Extremely cool car.. you are right Lincoln should have made a convertible mark 8. The added switches look like an afterthought lol

The plastic fantastic interior kills this generation of Mark for me. I remember one of the car mags back when it was new calling it “interior by Tupperware.”

I saw one of these convertibles years ago in person, in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, back in the 90's. I believe it was either a 1993 or '94. It was the same red color, but I don't recall the interior color. I have movies of it somewhere. This engine was used in the Mark VIII before the Mustang Cobra. The original stereo head unit can be modified to accept Bluetooth if one wishes to restore the original look of the dash...most any vintage head unit can have a Bluetooth receiver added. People accomplish this in different ways, but the best way is for the person doing the modification to tap directly into the preamp.

I've actually seen a couple 'rare' convertible conversions. But not a Lincoln. In the mid-late 80s, there was a GM car dealership that had two convertible conversions, a Chevy Celebrity and Beretta, the Beretta had a rollbar, because the door handles are up in the B pillar. Also when I went to college a lady had a late 80s Mercedes benz 560 SEC convertible conversion. She must had some money, since the Benz was the most expensive Merc at the time, plus paying to get the top chopped! I wonder if they are still around somewhere. Great video as always!

Mine obviously wasn't a convertible but it's still one my top favorite cars I've owned. Except the time my cousin left some chicken livers in the trunk after a fishing trip. The container burst open a few days later and took me forever to get the smell out..

I like the design of the Mk.VIII, a true personal luxury car, the facelift for MY 1997 made it look even better. This convertible reminds me a bit of the Toyota Camry Solara 🧐

Looks like a C4 vette third brake light to me. Before they were integrated into the bumper, they were above the hatch. It was an afterthought as the c4 was supposed to be released in 82 and the third brake light law happened in 86.
@mumwifeteacher2 күн бұрын
The third brake light might be an after market add on for pre mandated third light c4 cars.

This looks like a hack job. That door chop, the tonneau cover, and the added switches look terrible. Jerry Lee Lewis deserved better. Otherwise, these are nice cars and great cruisers. From the windshield back, it reminds me of a Saab convertible if a Saab had a continental hump.

I remember this model being comfortable and powerful enough. Only problem with it was the air suspension malfunctioning every once in a while
@ericbrandt56093 күн бұрын
I had one - if only what you are saying about "only problem...was the air suspension" is true. These cars had many problems ranging from HVAC blend door failing (very expensive to fix) to the door handles breaking (too frail for the very heavy doors). It just wasn't my car - these failings were very common. However the Mark VIII was great looking and had a great engine. Although the car was heavy it was relatively fast.

Don't remember there being an official convertible after Mark III in the late 1960s as stricter rollover rules were threatened in the 70s but never came to Fruition and most midsize/full size American Convertibles were cancelled in the mid-late 1970s though some were revived on a limited basis in the 80s like the Cadillac Eldorado Convertible in 1984-1985 and came back for their cars final gen in the 90s-early 2000s

4:08 - That interior is embarrassing for what was designed to compete head to head with Lexus, Mercedes, Acura, etc. The look of the Mark VIII interior is fine, but the quality is embarrassing.

I'd like to know how Ford/Lincoln felt about this internally at the time.
@bwofficial17763 күн бұрын
It was an aftermarket conversion so they probably didn't care.
@SecretlySeven3 күн бұрын
@@bwofficial1776 Oh they knew. Every time a coach builder or a sunfoof company goes top chopping they know. It's also hard to know what Ford saw in 1994. There's clearly mismatched switches. Even done aftermarket it would have been to a much higher grade. Especially with this cars pedigree. I wish Zack was a little better about calling out things that aren't "correct" to these cars originally. I was thinking this was pretty decent till he showed the switchpack for the small windows. If that's original it's shoddy af. If it's not that stuff ought be mentioned as to not tarnish the vehicles place in history.
