Great power from the system. And on the highway, I was able to get about 31 mpg on the required premium. I miss that thing.

I have one, with 265k miles. The engine is just about the last thing you need to worry about. Be it snow or desert. And it is not that slow. On replacement coils and lowered an inch or 2 and it will handle remarkably well, despite the skinny tires, especially with a rear stabilizer that is not broken in half. It is reasonably quick and darty in city traffic, easy to park and on highway, it just eats up the miles with the cruise set at a leisurely 80mph, returning about 24mpg. it has no issues handling LPG conversion, and then the mileage in fuel savings is almost doubled (at least in Europe). What you need to worry about -the transmission - overdrive is weak, just turn it off before trying to overtake somebody and enjoy revving it out to the limiter. -the leaky power steering. the steering box is cheap but to replace it, the front subframe has to be dropped. Not cheap. -the air ride. just replace it with Arnott kit or something. In the end it will be cheaper and more reliable, also handles better. Everything else is but a minor annoyance, parts are cheap, repairs are not that bad, even if you do not do the work yourself. And if you want to build it up.. well, the aftermarket is plentiful, parts are shared with the Thunderbirds and the Mustangs, some minor bits even across the whole Ford lineup.. And the Teksid block can take up to 1500hp, so, that is a nice faraway goal to have. The rotating assembly cannot, but that is part of the fun to figure out. I'm not gonna sell mine, ever. It is the most reliable car i have ever owned. I'll just keep it, drive it, modify it, and finally i will take the plunge, go forged rotating assembly and a supercharger.

The MK VIII was one of my favorite cars to drive. I agree the ride was amazing, the interior felt like the cockpit of a jet, the seats were so comfortable you had to be careful not to fall asleep on a long ride. It was so quiet inside you could hear a pin drop. These might not have been fast off the line but easily could hit 120 and feel like you were still driving 60MPH. This was one MK I never owned I had at least one of every MK Lincoln made except for the last two the MK VII and MK VIII. In 1993 when the first started selling these, a few engineers from Ford took a Mk VIII to Bonneville, removed the software speed limiters, and ran it up to 181mph. Since the quarter was about 14 seconds, that makes this a real sleeper.
@williamwhite97674 жыл бұрын
I owned a 95 Mark VIII and it was my favorite of all time. After I replaced the broken small hollow rear sway bar with a much larger bar it handled super! With age and miles the fancy tube within a tube driveshaft will start vibrating and it will need to be replaced. the 93 model had a normal driveshaft so that is what most owners replace it with. Yeah, it was slow off the line due to high gearing and variable intake but if you floored it at about 65mph, it would haul butt. When I traded it, I was looking for RWD car with a V8 and independent rear suspension like the Mark VIII and I traded it for a 2005 Dodge Magnum with a 5.7 Hemi. It is much quicker off the line, is a fun car and for me has been a reliable car. Still have it.

Hi Hoovie! I purchased a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII (mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark) in March and took delivery on May 25th. ( I’ve always thought these were cool and this purchase was to help a friend who’s employee needed to offload an extra car and pay bills and I required a daily to offset miles on my lifted Jeep). Everything you said has been pretty spot on, the car is reliable (so far), the air ride is still in the car (does occasionally leak down overnight but comes back with a turn of the key). The engine is still fairly potent even at 128k miles, trans shifts well and a/c blows cold! It’s a black on black car with the same wheels (in chrome), and the trim has been painted black to match. The interior while a little worn will clean up nicely and is still very comfortable. I’m going through and fixing some little plastic baubles that have broken or failed to get it back up to snuff. The previous owner had a Kenwood touch screen with Apple carplay/ android auto installed along with two tens and upgraded door speakers. I do have a few things I need to remedy, the abs light is on and needs to be resolved (will not allow traction control to turn off so no Smokey burnouts for me) and I think I may have a rear main seal leak. The pinion seal on the diff is weeping also. Otherwise it’s a big floaty luxo barge relic from the 90’s and it’s kinda fun and gives me a chuckle every time I see it. Thanks for the review!

Agree, wood interior do need to come back. Back in the day I envisioned customizing an 05-09 Mustang modestly by painting it Lincoln’s Light Parchment cream color and pairing an appropriate colored wood kit with a tan interior. Lastly I would find a Ghia badge and slap in on the rear to denote the luxury version and enjoy. I’ve always loved the Mark 8 but have the opposite opinion about the front. I don’t prefer the early models looks because I can’t separate in my mind the grill and light not looking like a Texas Longhorn. Also loved the smooth elegance of the refreshed models and neon taillight.

@Shepard exactly. people rip on the Lincoln's for being unreliable but honestly Lincoln didn't start getting bad until early mid 2000's and 2010's with the first generation Ecoboost that costed owners thousands of dollars until it was finally recalled and the subframe rot issue with the Ford Fusion platform in the year 2006 that I'm aware of. and Lincoln's today of course, are less to be desired. I know of someone that has a 1987 Lincoln Town Car with 249,000 miles still on the original engine and transmission. It's just well maintained. Some new cars can't make it past 50,000 miles today without issues galore.

The Mark viii Lincoln was built on the thunderbird platform. They took one i think a 93 which was the fastest mark viii lowered it and removed the outside mirrors (less drag) and bam right at a 200 mph car. 3 valve cobra 4.6. the 94 up marks were slower thanks to insurance regulators. I had a 93 black mark and a 98 crimson mark both bought/leased new, comfort was a little off kilter for lincoln and so was the quality of ride but was a fun car to drive. Cross country from alabama to oregon and back in the mark/s were not as comfortable as a 04 explorer i had. The marks power train is super durable when serviced. Oil filter is a bitch were it is located, Caught jiffy lube tech not changing my oil filter but was gonna charge me for one, i raised hell and the filter was changed and the service was free. Never trust 10 minute oil change joints or wal-mart service as a retired ford tech i saw many damaged engines because of low IQ (dumb as shit) jiffy lube tech's. Another great lincoln to consider was the lincoln mark vii from 84 up built on the fox mustang platform, but they are getting expensive these days as they are gaining value and you can't give a northstar caddy away but as with all gm's they are garbage.

Mine was Pearl Bisque. I found out about the coil spring swap too late or I would still have it.

I don't really agree with the statement that old people take great care of cars. My grandma had an early 90s Buick, but she was from the great depression era and originally from Germany. She was very very frugal, because its what she knew. So I question whether she like ever had the oil changed on it or serviced it etc. A car with 15-20k miles with original oil vs a car with 100-150k miles with regular oil changes and service... I'd take the latter.
@broman2604 жыл бұрын
You don't understand the meaning of the statement. If you find an old boat like this that was owned by an old person, it's usually in really good shape. And if you find an old boat like this that's in really good shape, it was usually owned by an old person. There's a reason that sentiment exists "that's what you want, a grandpa/grandma car" particularly if they were fairly wealthy. Because those people typically don't have that attitude of "who cares? when it starts breaking I'll just buy a new one, whatever" that younger people have. I own a 94 Buick Roadmaster that was owned by an old lady and it's in great shape. And I always hear stories of old cars owned by old people that are in good shape.
