The formula was so simple. Win the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

The last playoff win for the Cowboys until 2009 wildcard game against the Eagles. It showed that Dallas could turn it on when needed to. The Vikings were just outcoached, but things would change the next year when Randall Cunningham beat the Giants in a wildcard game in a comeback. In 1998, everything fell into place with Randy Moss being drafted. One field goal away from making it 10 points with 2:08 in the NFC Championship and Gary Anderson's only ONE MISS gave the Falcons a chance. It was the Vikings defense that failed to stop the the Falcons on that game tying touchdown drive and field goal in overtime. That's as close the VIkings would ever get back to the Super Bowl. For the Cowboys they would lose to the Panthers the next week. Having Michael Irvin injured and Moose Johnston hurt, really really hurt that offense. That would be IT for the 90's Cowboys. A 6-10 season and then followed by a 10-6 season and being upset by the Cardinals in 1998 would further the decline of the Cowboys until Parcells came along in 2003.

Back then there was a large gap between the top teams and the also-rans, especially in the NFC. Teams like the Vikings were basically token opposition for the powerhouses in the playoffs.

With the exception of the 1992, 1993, and 1998 seasons, the _MNF_ crew would work the second game of the doubleheader on Wild Card Saturday. In the years where they did game one of the doubleheader, the previous year's Super Bowl winner (Washington in 1992) played, a marquee quarterback (Montana with the Chiefs in 1993) started in his 20th postseason game, or the game was in the same state as the last game in the regular season (Buffalo at Miami in 1998 after Pittsburgh at Jacksonville in Week 17.) Interestingly, the _Sunday Night Football_ crew worked their 1998 playoff game (Cardinals at Cowboys) in the same stadium as their game in Week 17, Washington at Dallas.

The Cowboys' last postseason win (last one at Texas Stadium) until the 2009 NFC Wild Card.

Big win, but by this point, the Cowboys were becoming decimated by free agency and starting to show cracks. The next year was a disaster. Final playoff victory for Aikman, Smith, Irvin, et al.

How far down the line can you block below the waist..I thought only in the tackle box can you hit below the waist

This was the last hurrah of the 1990s Cowboy dynasty.

Troy Aikman when you look at career stats probably one of the biggest overrated QB’s in the HOF. He kind of made a career riding Emmett Smith

Emmitt’s critics claim he made a career riding off the offensive line. I guess Aikman and Emmitt were overrated lol
