1997 Volvo 850 Wastegate check and adjust

We eliminated every leak and qualified the boost control is functioning. Now the last piece of the puzzle. Driving boost is maxing at 3 psi. In this video we get a surprise on where the wastegate is actually opening. Tune in and see what I found.

One minute into watching your video, I figured that this is possibly my issue. My car has been hesitant to accelerate uphill getting codes for mass airflow sensor and fuel bank one. Replace the maf sensor same code, over time the symptoms were more frequent and on flat roads. I removed the wastegate and noticed the rod was loose and the wastegate is possible opening to soon. I order a wastegate and hopefully this fixed my issue.

Leakage is first. Then this is the next level option. Heat must weaken the spring and lose the initial preload. Thanks for watching.

@@houseofbrokendobbsthings5537 I have a Volvo but a 2006 P2 xc90 2.5 bigger turbo 22t all the other modifications need. Stage 3 tune The forge wastegate, I’m using has the stock spring. Rated for 15pis and I’m running 18-20 psi. I put about 20k miles on her before the wastegate stared weaken. So yes more psi, means more heat correct? Thanks you for a posting a useful video and commenting. It really helps others. The wastegate will have a rated spring for 18 psi.

@@DWYNDL3R Awesome that ought to move the XC90 briskly. Yes, no free lunch more boost equals more heat. The break over for the wastegate to start to leak is critical. Otherwise you are fighting a leak as you start to build pressure just as I was. The stock turbo on my wagon just did not have the volume to pressurize with the sloppy wastegate setting. My S60r likewise needs a look, but it has massive volume and can still feel great and leave some performance on the table. Thanks so much for watching.
