First national game on CBS with the AFC TV deal. First game for the Jets with those snazzy throwback unis. First game since 1985 Jerry Rice wasn't the focal point of the 49ers offense. Absolutely fantastic game.

Great blocking by T.O. on that Hearst run.

I still say if Hearst didn't snap his ankle in the Playoffs vs. Atlanta the Niners win that game. Franchise record 1,570 on a team with Young, Rice and Owens.

As a Jets fan, that loss stings. But, that was a well played game. Foley was slinging that football around man. My goodness. I believe Dan Henning was the OC then. Keyshawn & Chrebet still the beat WR duo on the club and have not been close since. Both with great hands. Quite a few HOFers in that game. I was watching that game in NC at my uncle's house with my father and uncle, both now deceased😥
@IowaNinersFan
I was at this game on the opposite end zone when the Hearst run happened. There were massive Jets fans at the game including Fireman Ed. Stadium went crazy when Hearst took off down the sideline.

This was my first memory of football. I was 9

1998 Opening Day 2️⃣5️⃣ Years Ago. September 6, 1998 I'll Never Forget It.... Garrison Hearst #20 ❤💛 96 Yards Run. LEGENDARY.

What a game. This is the first time I've seen more than just the final play.

WHAT a game; THANK YOU. I knew how this ended I've seen that run 20 times since its featured in "greatest runs" and I rewind every single one to note the Blocking scheme; and the jukes/tackle breaking. I wish all your games were tightly contested the entire time; but I know that's not possible. It's still a nice way to appreciate the legends I can see Steve Young's arm all game long.
