Great video! Thank you. FWIW, there's a square on top of the pump that fits a 1/2 drive breaker bar perfectly. You can insert a breaker bar and push up and use that to increase the tension on the belt. Again, thank you and thanks for showing the o-ring.

Did you have to add power steering fluid to the pump before installing- to keep air out?
@kingpunk848 жыл бұрын
I just bought a 98 accord ex at auction and it's ugly but in decent shape. Moved it in my driveway to find power steering fluid leaking (knew it was gonna happen soon as it's making noise on the turn of the steering wheel) - I'm glad I found your video. I believe I'll be able to replace my current pump with confidence. Thank you, sir! Subscribed!

Exellent video! Thank you! This is pretty much the same as the 2001 Honda Accord *4 cynlinder* cars. Unfortunately, they do not sell the o-ring alone for the top part as shown at 4:13. You will have to buy the entire o-ring/gasket kit for the power steering JUST for that o-ring, because your new power steering pump already has all the other gaskets/o-rings/seal in it. Crazy world! One question: The video does not show the replacements of the inlet and outlet o-rings. Where do these go?

Hello Dan, thank you so much for your educational video. I think this is a DIY job for me. Honda wants to charge me $648 to replace the pump. All I need now is to know where do I buy the pump? Does it have to be OEM? What is the best economical one you recommend? Thank you kindly for any help you can give me.

@jayzee92736 жыл бұрын
Dan, didn't see you add fluid to the new pump or bleed the lines...is that necessary? Also did the o-ring come with the pump? Doing the job for the first time, thanks.
@DantheFixitMan6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the O-rings come with the pump, and yes, you will need to bleed the air out of the system by turning the wheels from side to side a few times. Putting fluid in the new pump before starting it doesn't seem to matter too much because it's only for a split second that it would be without fluid. I also noticed that the rebuilt/aftermarket pumps already have some residual oil/fluid leftover in them from the rebuild process. Sometimes it takes a while for all of the air to bleed out. I just did another one of these on an odyssey and the new pump had a warning that required you to flush out the lines prior to installing the new pump, so we drained and refilled it a few times until the fluid was clean. We got the Honda recommended fluid at Napa for about $4 bucks a bottle. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

@DantheFixitMan6 жыл бұрын
You probably still have air in the lines. With the car running, you can turn the wheel all the way to the left and all the way to the right a few times until there are no more bubbles in the reservoir. Just remember to top it off when complete. Thx again, Dan the Fix it Man

isn't that a good idea to put some fluid through high pressure hole before installing the hose ,so the pump don't start dry?
@DantheFixitMan7 жыл бұрын
Yes, thanks for pointing that out. It would be a great idea to do that. Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man
@chasemiller79746 жыл бұрын
ahoorakia Doing that Is about as effective as putting oil in your oil filter before putting it in. It doesn't hurt so much if it's dry for a couple seconds, but if it is for say a few minutes, you can say goodbye to that pump.

@DantheFixitMan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, The belt may be loose or if it's old, it may need to be replaced. You also probably need to bleed the air out of the system. I know I could have been more specific in the video, but the fluid does need to be flushed out and changed when doing this. There's a few other videos that show how to bleed the pump... Best of luck to you, and thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

YES. You have to bleed the air out or you'll destroy the new pump in about as fast as you can blink.

@seanstaats7007Ай бұрын
It's recommended by honda to hand prime your new pump. Especially since the 98 accord has a remote reservoir. You do this by turning the pully by hand in the direction the drive belt turns about 30 + full rotations. Keep an eye on your reservoir just in case you need to add fluid. After installing the drive belt an starting the car leave your reservoir cap off and turn the wheels all the way left and right until the remaining air is purged and top off with fluid as needed. 🫡

@DantheFixitMan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ricky, Sorry to hear that...You might want to double check the O-rings or clean and reseal/re-install them. I have had a few problems with these after replacing them and they still leak air and create bubbles causing the noise. I didn't mention it in the video, but you should also flush the system with new Honda Power Steering Fluid. And make sure all of the air is bled out of the system after you're done. Best of luck to you, I hope you get it figured out. Thanks, -Dan the Fix it Man

@DantheFixitMan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, I would guess that is the alternator going bad. You can test it's output with a simple voltmeter. Just put the leads on the battery with the car off (should read around 12.6 if the battery is fully charged) and start the car. The meter should now read somewhere around 13.8-14.2 volts ideally if the alternator is working properly. You can take the car to most auto parts stores and they can do this for you, or you can take the alternator out and take it to them to bench test it before replacing it with a new one. Best of luck to you. Thanks again for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

Will this cause me car to idle high and vibrate at a stop. Since it's got a bit colder outside my power steering pump is loud.
@DantheFixitMan7 жыл бұрын
Hard to know for sure. I would make sure it's got enough power steering fluid which will probably help with the noise. You might also want to check that there isn't a lot of resistance in the pulley. If the power steering reservoir has a lot of bubbles in it, then the o-ring is probably bad.
@joshnewman94297 жыл бұрын
got mine replaced still squeaks and no leaks, will this go away
@DantheFixitMan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, I would guess that you might still have excessive air in the fluid of the system that should gradually work its way out over a few days to a week of driving, or the new pump is defective. Don't turn the steering wheel fully locked to either side as this will make more air in the system. You also may want to flush the system if you didn't already do that when you replaced the pump. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man
