This video saved me so much stress. This is one of the worst power steering pump locations and mounting applications I've ever seen. Thank you, 1A Auto Parts. Your videos have made me a customer. I also greatly appreciate that you guys don't edit out the difficulty. Pro tip: if you're having trouble on that top bolt, save yourself the trouble and find a proper length socket. For me that happened to be my 1/2" drive 14mm. The larger wrench and socket were the perfect fit. It also made it easier to break the tight bolt.

I have been trying to do this on my Camry for the past 2 days. You have to have Hobbit hands to get to that top bolt behind the pulley. Everything else has been fine. The banjo bolt needed some serious torque, but the lower bolt behind the pulley was easy. Best one of these videos I've found by far. $70 in parts vs. a $700 auto repair bill. I do want to add one thing though... The angles you're coming at some of these parts is way, way different when you are jacking up one side of your car vs. having the car up on a lift. I would kill for the angles and leverage you have in this video. My repair has been much trickier, although the good lighting and slow explanation helps a lot.

Same as trying to do a PCV valve on my 2017 Camry, in that you need tiny high quality steel hands and eyes on stalks... The vids and Toyota Nation comments say it is 15 mins and easy...but I gave up after 2 days ! When you are 73 and laid on your back in 90 degrees with salty sweat in your eyes, steamed up glasses and mosquitoes biting your neck, it is a much different proposition.... This video is excellent though and given the right working conditions and a wide variety of different sized tools, it looks doable.... The pump supplier says it needs de-vacuuming (with a special tool), otherwise no guarantee. This vid says just swing the wheel left and right...and done

A great video, per usual from you guys! The only the I would add from the experience I just had doing this: (1) The square threaded inserts on the the back of the bracket slide out to become tight against the installed pump, but after pulling the old pump these made it difficult to install the new one and get the bolts to thread in. Before installing the new pump, tap on the these with a hammer to seat them against the rear bracket, giving yourself plenty of room to easily install the new pump without requiring force. (2) An open ended 14mm wrench will fit between the pump body and the pulley if required, and the top bolt of the pump can be accessed this way from the top rear of the engine compartment. I did not have the exact correct size of sockets to properly get to these bolts without a swivel joint; using a wrench this way allowed me to get the bolts nice and tight after the install. I also don't have the ability to get my car as high as you guys, so coming from the top was a little easier for that top bolt. Thanks for the great content!

How do you know it needs a power steering pump?
@MattExzy
@MattExzy 2 жыл бұрын
@@misterispusovcikas9066 It's easy to spot. I'm going to get a mechanic to do mine, since this is beyond my scope. First I noticed a leak from the pump area - then a while later (as in, two years later lol) there's an audible groan from the area when stationary and moving the steering wheel side to side. Also getting some bubbles in the reservoir.

What the video doesn't show nor tell you is the square nuts at the back of the bracket have to be hammered back into their holes to create the needed clearance. I did not simply "tap them with a ballpeen hammer". There wasn't enough space for a good swing. I got an extension bar (the 2' handle to a floor jack!) to reach outside the car, then had to use a 3 lb. sledge to hammer them in. Even with the odd angles I was able to do it - enough so there was NO friction; both bolt channels easily slid all the way in. I also spayed the nuts with silicone spray (had no IR Blaster); not sure if that helped. Contrary to the video, I screwed in the bottom bolt first then hinged the top bolt into place. It was too difficult to do the top bolt first (see below). But with so much clearance now to slide in the pump, doing the bottom bolt was pretty easy. The next hardest part was tightening the upper bolt. A 1-inch regular depth 14mm socket was too short and a 2" deep socket was too long what with the little clearance behind the ratchet. My friend brought over a 3/4" extension and that worked very well. Then he came in from the top (back/firewall) of the engine and securely tightened the top bolt with an open-end wrench. I didn't think it was accessible from the top so had never tried it.

Most excellent. Thanks for explaining the ears etc on the mount. Very tricky but you did a great job explaining. My pressure switch is on top of the banjo mount not separate. What exactly is that switch doing? Belt always turns so what is getting turned on and off with the switch? Some sort of bypass? Thanks again. Excellent work

Much easier with a lift. 1% of diyers will have a lift. But yeah i have been watching my 2007 lexus power steering pump. It would be a big hassle from the floor but i will do it because i am retired, i have the time. Mechanic said it was leaking. I found the connection at the bottom low pressure side was loose and tightened it. Why did my mechanic not do that? Hmmmm.

Another SUPERB 1A Auto video! Especially going back and showing the slots for the bolts. Also, thank you for the overlay belt diagram! I was confused in the beginning when you took off the belt. You said the tensioner bolt was 14mm (or the pulley above the tensioner? At the end to install the belt you said the 19mm bolt on the tensioner. Kinda confusing.

@leonl3051
@leonl3051 4 жыл бұрын
Depending on where the leak is on the pump you many need to replace or rebuild it. However, if the leak is coming for an attached hose you may only need to replace the respective hose along with any accompanying crush washers. Don’t put any of the stop leak fluids in the reservoir because you may end up with other problems later which could prove to be very costly to fix.

Difficult to imagine how to do this with jack stands. Need better light and camera angle too.

I learned a lot watching this video. Mostly that I will never attempt to replace a power steering pump.

Wonder why he has his tools taped blue? Maybe so others don't take his tools by accident if they're working together?

Minute 10:30 a-ha, that's the trick. Stupid bolts. 😂. You didn't mention you need to unplug the power to the pump from the top also.

I really hate having little room to work with. It's annoying and makes me want to quit working on it. Lol.

Dang, those engineers just could not give you another inch to swing a ratchet! . It doesn't matter if they're Japanese or French or American, they all design cars that are a royal pain in the lower back to work on.

+Joe Brown The part in this video fits 2006-2011 Toyota Camry models. While the vehicle shown in the video may not be a 2006 model, the install should be the same or similar. Buy this part on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
