So for anybody wanting to make a DIY car repair video they should watch your video to learn how to do it. Very very well done. Camera work was nice. Steady and on point. The audio was a good volume and you spoke clearly and you'll explain stuff as you went with out "uh" 'um" and dead air time. It was very helpful for me. Thank you

Excellent video, sir! Very thorough! Like that you took apart the old valve and showed us how it was stuck. I am going to take mine apart and gently clean it, so this really helped! You can also clean a PCV instead of buying a new one. Carb cleaner is the key. Thanks a million! (I didn't even know there was such a thing as a secondary air injection system until I got a code...)

I might be wrong, but you should NOT use carb cleaner on plastic. (Assuming your PCV valve is plastic, mine is)

You can also clean it and put it back on. I did. It worked well until recently. The screws started coming lose, so perhaps use thread locker on the tiny screws that hold the flap to the part.

Great video... I am having similar issue to you i believe with a 2010 mercedes e class. I have the code but also my 2ndary air pump makes noise when i start the car so I know it runs. On my car however there are like 3 different valves involved with this thing. There are two check valves (or shutoff valves as benz calls them) for the left and right bank i believe. Then there is a diverter valve which I think is what you replaced here. Is that likely what my issue is? It says the flow of air is low on both banks so I think it would be unlikely for both of those check valves to fail at the same time. I am not really sure what the diverter valve does however.

I replaced my valve, pump, one oxygen sensor, and got the relay tested at Oreilly's. I think I will take my check valve apart to inspect it. It says the check valve is stuck open.
@Pjshipman272 жыл бұрын
I did get my secondary air valve replaced and the check engine light came back on with the same code. I’m assuming the secondary air pump, the relay to the pump, or one of the oxygen sensors is bad and needs replacing. Ima have my mechanic check it out again and see what he says.

I have a GMC Terrain 2013 with a P0411 check engine code and the mechanic told me it was the air pump that was faulty. I replaced it, the light went away, only for a day though and the next day the check engine light came back on. Now I’m stuck with a brand new pump and an old one that still works. Based on your video, the relay is working fine so its going to be the valve what they’ll need to check next.

For what it's worth, I have a 2013 Equinox 2.4 with the same problem. If it's not the check valves (there are two of them, about $140 apiece), then the other problem is the air injection ports get clogged up with carbon, there's a service bulletin for that. Unfortunately, that is a a difficult repair because it involves removing the exhaust manifold to clear the carbon out. I'm really hoping that's not my problem.
@pleiadianaran2 жыл бұрын
@@davesherman74 My mechanic is still working on this, there was a slight crack on the secondary air injection pipe and he had it welded, plus the electrical connector that goes into the Check Valve was burnt so I had it replaced. But the issue remains, I’ve taken the car back this morning and he’s going to check the manifold and clean out the injection ports. I’m really hoping this is going to be it
@pleiadianaran2 жыл бұрын
@@davesherman74 After test driving the car for the past two days, I can say that the problem was indeed the air injection ports. After literally trying everything else, replacing the air pump, checking the air injection hose, welding a crack in the air injection pipe, replacing an electrical connector for the check valve, making sure both check valves worked properly, it all came down to cleaning the air injection ports and the manifolds, there was a lot of carbon buildup. It was time consuming and expensive but the check engine hasn’t come back on since Thursday. How’s your car doing?
@davesherman742 жыл бұрын
@@pleiadianaran I've replaced both check valves since they were both loaded with soot. Replacing one improved the pressure slightly, replacing the other seems to have helped some more. If it doesn't fix it, I may have to take it to the shop to have them clear the injection ports.
@pleiadianaran2 жыл бұрын
@@davesherman74 Luckily I didn’t have to replace the check valves, they’re quite expensive ($270 a pop). What I did have to do though, was replace the Intake and Exhaust VVT Solenoids, I got a P0013, P0011 and P0010, all this within the last 3 months.

That looks like the same engine as my 06 h3 hummer. Inline 5. My truck doesn't have that. But it does have where if I wanted I could put one on. I have always wondered why that spot was there. Transmission dipstick is connected to it but no blower or whatever it's called. Now I know GM decided they didn't need it for my hummer. Now I'm wondering what was the replaced and why GM decided 06 h3 hummer didn't need it. Nevertheless. Good fix once again. Next Sunday I will be replace evap canister and purge in the front. Code said the front need replacing but I figured I'd just like you did. Replace the whole system. Parts came in today from Amazon lol. Issues was every time I filled up gas tank. It wouldn't start. Unless I floored it and let it rev for a moment. Then it would mellow out. But only happens when I fill the tank all the way. Check engine light didn't come on right away. Then when I used my scanner it said pending. But gave me a code which allowed me to look up the issue.

I’ve never seen or heard of this particular valve. It looks similar to an idle air control valve. Is that basically what it is?
@danielebrparish42712 жыл бұрын
No. It is a secondary air pump valve. The big hose is connected to a air injection pump (fan). When the valve opens it lets the air into the exhaust manifold to burn any unburnt fuel that enters the exhaust system. Their is a relay that allows vacuum to reach the diaphragm on top of the valve which pulls the valve to the open position. So this valve only opens when the engine is at less than operating temperature.

That’s a tuff question. All have there strengths and weaknesses. I love the ‘95 Suburban because of its nostalgia and simplicity. It’s just enough modern but just enough vintage. The sweet spot. The ‘03 is super comfy and has the amazing 5.3L engine. The ‘05 Envoy has a great engine too (the Vortec 4200 inline 6) and gets the best mileage of all of them but it’s a bit small and most of all I can’t really sleep in there 😜. If I had to keep just one it’d probably be the ‘03 just because it meets a lot of our needs and still has a super comfy ride as well as being very reliable. 🤙

@@bandittweintraub idle is good, but there is a strange bearing noise from the pump below for about 10 seconds at cold startup then gradually fades away. Idle is at 600 with no vibration.
