@I _ D _K it's just like everyone with Jeeps wave to each other or people on motorcycle wave to each other. I guess you could say that its kinda like a bar in a way. Have a few beers while your fishing having conversations with strangers and enjoy yourself. I remember when I was around 7-8 and a place my dad would take my brother and I fishing was a tight group of guys that got to know each other from fishing there. I remember this old black guy that had to be around 80 years old. He was down there almost every single time we were there and would fish for hours. It was on the Occoquan river about 30 miles south of Washington DC. Being a young kid I thought he was just awesome and looked forward to fishing with him. He would tell us all these stories of his past experiences. This was around 1983-84 so you know this man had seen alot of changes and some rough times. One time we went fishing and he wasn't there and didn't think anything of it. Then a couple weeks went by and still hadn't seen him there. Then 1 day we went and talked to 1 of the regulars and thats when we heard the sad news that he had passed away. I only knew the man from fishing but I was still bummed out about because of the impression he made on me. Im 43 now and still remember that man very well.

Depends on the type of gar. For alligator gar, get a heavy power surf rod with a 6000-6500 size spinning reel. Spool with 100-150lb braid. Attach this to a 3 foot 50-100lb wire leader. Attach this to a 1/0 to 3/0 octopus or circle hook or a #4 to #2 treble hook. Use cutbait for bait. For smaller long nose, short nose, and spotted gar, use a medium to medium heavy catfish rod spooled with 50-65lb braid attached to a 2 foot wire leader. Use #10-#6 treble hooks or #4-#1 octopus or circle hooks. Use cutbait for these gar as well. Either use the cutbait on a bottom rig or under a bobber. Make sure to let them swallow the bait for between 3 and 5 minutes. Hope this helps!
@tophervogt50425 жыл бұрын
To catch gar I would use a bobber with a live bluegill or cut bait such as shad and then you let him swallow the hook
@jeffhoyt55145 жыл бұрын
For gar you need to go to your local pet store and get larger gold fish. The reason that your seeing goldfish now is most likely someone has used them for bait. Large gold fish and decent sized hook for the size gold fish your able to find. I GUARANTEE you catch them.

That's a wild method of fishing right there... I live near Saginaw Bay in Michigan. If for some reason you want to catch gar, take a small daredevil (red & white, black & white, or silver, in that order) and remove the hook. Tie some yarn on and fray it so it forms a short skirt (maybe 2-3" long) and then cast away. The teeth of the gar face backwards, so when they hit at the flash of the spoon, their teeth get caught in the yarn. Even more fun bowfishing them though... VERY hard to hit!
@Herbie-outdoor-fishing Жыл бұрын
To catch a gar you will need chopped up carp and it depends what state you are, and you'll need a 50+ pound line then a large bobber and medium to extra large size hook or use a rope lure for other type of gar. And don't forget to get a very large rod & reel and fishing pole at least 7-8 feet tall

I've always used corn and wrapped braided line around it to catch Gar. Live bait works too but they can throw the hook very easy

To get those gar I recommend you take some dead baitfish and let them have it. That is how I would always catch them, they would never come off either.

If you want to catch some real big striper, come to Lake Cumberland in the heart of southern Kentucky. Talk about fun! If you ever make it down this way I’ll charter you a tour and we will have a blast!!
