I was there at this concert in Earls Court London in 94 .. 90,000+ fans , 200,000 watt sound system .. THEE best light show ever for any concert ! Listening to the GODS of music bring me an the crowd to tears .. tears of sorrow amd joy singing our hearts out an having our souls touched by David Gilmour & his guitar ! PULSE forever .. 30 years ago an I can still relive every second I was there .. !! One of the most enduring interpretations of “Wish You Were Here” is that it serves as a tribute to Syd Barrett, the co-founder of Pink Floyd who left the band in 1968 due to mental health issues. Barrett was a pivotal figure in the band’s early days, providing vocals, guitar, and songwriting for their first two albums, “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” and “A Saucerful of Secrets.” However, his erratic behavior and drug use eventually took a toll on his mental health, and he was replaced by David Gilmour. The opening lines of “Wish You Were Here” - “So, so you think you can tell/ Heaven from Hell/ Blue skies from pain” - have been interpreted as a reference to Barrett’s mental state and the toll it took on him. The next lines - “Can you tell a green field/ From a cold steel rail?/ A smile from a veil?” - may allude to the difficulty of distinguishing reality from illusion, which was a common theme in Barrett’s lyrics. The chorus of the song - “How I wish you were here/ We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl/ Year after year” - is arguably the most poignant and emotional part. The “you” in this context can be interpreted as Douglass, the band’s former manager who died in a car accident, or as Barrett, whose exit from the band left a void that could never be filled. “Two lost souls” may refer to the disconnect between the remaining members of Pink Floyd who were still reeling from Barrett’s exit.

Gladdens My Old Hart to see people discovering Pink Floyd, it's a deep Rabbit Hole enjoy it all. The show was in 1994 at Earl's Court London. The lead Singer and Guitarist is David Gilmour now 78 years old and is touring as we speak Solo. The Keyboard Player is Richard Wright sadly passed away in 2008 at the age of 65 from Lung Cancer. The Drummer is Nick Mason and is currently touring with his band Saucerfull of Secrets. The original bass player is Rodger Walters who split with the band in 1985 final settlement in 1987, still recording and touring solo. The original frontman was Syd Barrett he and the band parted company in 1968 due to his increasingly bad mental health made worse by his copious use of LSD, it was a real Tragedy. A lot of tracks are about him and the sad loss to the band an inspiration for the album Wish You Were Here. He passed away in 2006 from Pancreatic Cancer. David, Richard and Nick continued to record and tour as Pink Floyd. The Tour this was filmed at was called The Division Bell or Pulse, this ended up being the last big show tour they did together. Pink Floyd formed in 1965 with David Gilmour joining in 1967. Next year is 60 years of Pink Floyd. My Favourite Albums: Animals. Dark Side of The Moon. Wish You Were Here. Momentary Lapse of Reason. The Wall.

Pink Floyd has three remaining members still with us. David Gilmore,Nick mason ( drums) and Roger Waters( bass & lyricist). The band dissolved in the 80’s. Roger tours alone as does David. The concert you just watched was from 1994. The Pulse tour. The. Best. Concert. Tour. EVER!!! Not a bad song in the 2 1/2 hour show! The band originated in the mid 60’s. Wish you were here is a tribute song to one of their founding members( Syd Barret). He had mental health issues and abused psychedelics , which made him unreliable to perform. I don't want to give you too much advice, but I recommend wearing good quality headphones, especially when listening to Pink Floyd, even when listening to concert videos. Their songs contain a lot of crucial details, and you won't catch them without good listening. I consider the 1994 Pulse concert to be one of the best musical performances ever. It is not only a musical but also a visual treat! I consider David Gilmour to be perhaps the best guitarist alive. Check out, for example, "Comfortably Numb" from that concert. At the end of the song he plays a guitar solo that is considered the best ever. Otherwise, I would ask you to turn on subtitles for recorded videos. Well you guys have opened a HUGE Pandora's box here with Pink Floyd !!! Not only is that a true statement, but it is no understatement!!! PF have a huge body of work - almost ALL of which is seismic in its intensity and scope. Why do I say scope? typically they try to cover SO much ground in a song both; lyrically; and SONICALLY!!! See "Echoes'", "Careful With That Axe Eugene", "Set The Controls For the Heart Of the Sun", "Hey You", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", "Welcome To the Machine", etc. But those songs are just a start. ALL Pink Floyd's albums MUST be listened to in one sitting - from beginning to end to get their full intent at the point of time. Pink Floyd will help you experience a FULL range of emotions throughout a sitting. No Joke! It has been suggested by many - myself included - that one listen to an album (which has been done on YT) that you listen to them in a dark room with lights and distractions reduced!!! I suggest a couple of glasses of you favourite brew prior to starting. Their music IS a musical experience to be SAVOURED and cherished !!! You can't listen to Pink Floyd for a first time the 2nd time. You can only hear it for the 1st time - so do it right the first time. Don't say you have been forewarned. Do it right he first time!!! Welcome to the Journey, and ENJOY it all! Should you promise to do that, I'll then sub.

At first they didn,t recognise him he wandered around the studio for about 5 minutes looking at everything and touching the instrumets and then wallked out of the studio and they never really saw him again after that .That whole album is basically about that and to this day it is still a sore with the surviving members

Floyd have been as much about the light show as the music ever since they started when they had things projected on them while they were on stage. That morphed eventually into their signature circular screen they have at their live shows. Right after you hit play there were some voices, then some music before the guitar began sounding tinny and far away. This is supposed to represent someone going through a load of radio stations until the find a song they like and then Gilmour comes in with his guitar as if the imaginary person has started playing along with the song. Then the words start to come as the player expresses their sorrow at missing someone they care about that they wish were there with them. Of the three original members here, sadly Rick Wright on the keyboards passed away a few years ago, Nick Mason on the drums still tours with a group doing the early Pink Floyd stuff, and David Gilmour on the guitar has just released a new album and is on a world tour currently. Such a legend.

Fun Fact: In 1994, multi-color lasers did not exist like they do today. If you wanted a green laser, you bought a machine that produces a green laser. Same goes for gold. The difference is the price, gold lasers were some of if not the most expensive color laser you could buy.

I don't know if y'all watch movies but if you do you should watch the wall, based on the album of the same name. And yes, the prism is from the dark side of the moon album.

Pink Floyd's MO are their light shows
@jimangela4589Ай бұрын
The hallmark for the Floyd's live performances since the 60s has been their light shows. It is the reason their Dark Side album cover has the rainbow colors. The three surviving members are still playing, but the band's last performance was at Live 8 in July 2005. This song has a long and complicated past. It is on the album considered to be a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founding members who succumbed to drug addiction and was ousted from the band early in 1968. The album's theme is about absence and this song carries that message. As the song starts there is the sound of an AM radio through which a person is turning the dial through various broadcasts then settling on a lone guitar. He then starts to play along. I believe the imagery is that Syd is playing through the AM radio and David Gilmour is the second guitar. They both briefly play together, but the first guitar slowly fades out as the rest of the band comes in. Kinda sad. Syd died in 2006. Gilmour, Syd and Roger Waters are all from Cambridge, UK. In fact on stage, the first guitar is that of Tim Renwick who is also from Cambridge. The song, I think, is saying specifically to Syd, if you can recognize the world around you then you should be on stage with us. Syd lived out his life as a recluse back in Cambridge.

@@jimangela4589 They’re sooo pretty and cool looking!! Jonny’s totally color blind. Thats why he asked about the lights. But they’re amazing! We can’t wait to see more. It’s a lot different and so much better than today’s music! The people seem cooler too. 😊 -Ashley
