Lyrics.
Seaside whenever you stroll along with me
I'm merely contemplating what you feel inside
Meanwhile I ask you to be my Clementine
You say you will if you could but you can't
I love you madly
Let my imagination run away with you gladly
A brand new angle highly commendable
Seaside rendezvous
I feel so romantic can we do it again?
Can we do it again sometime uh I'd like that
Fantastic see est la vie mesdames et messieurs
And at the peak of the season
The Mediterranean
This time of year it's so fashionable
I feel like dancing in the rain
Can I have a volunteer?
Just keep right on dancing
What a damn jolly good idea
It's such a jollification as a matter of fact
So très charmant my dear
Underneath the moonlight
Together we'll sail across the sea
Reminiscing every night
Meantime I ask you to be my valentine
You say you'd have to tell your daddy if you can
I'll be your Valentino
We'll ride upon an omnibus and then the casino
Get a new facial
Start a sensational
Seaside rendezvous so adorable
Seaside rendezvous oh
Seaside rendezvous, give us a kiss

Freddie let his voice become a little more growly because he liked the effect, but he could reach very high notes until his death and when he wanted, his voice was crystal clear. Cool Cat, Exercises in free love and These are the days of our lives are good examples of this.

Seaside Rendezvous definitely puts a smile on my face, very light and bouncy. "Lazing on a Sunday afternoon" and "Good Company" (sung by Brian playing a ukulele) have that same cheery, bouncy, music hall-vaudeville vibe and same happy effect. Also, in case your wondering, in the line "I'll be your Valentino" Freddie is referring to Rudolf Valentino, a very famous silent movie actor known as "the Latin lover of the silent screen".

This is from Queen's fourth album A Night At The Opera. They were under a lot of pressure to produce something outstanding because their previous management took all their royalties from the first 3 albums and the band were in debt. Under their new management with John Reid they were finally able to make money if the album did well. Some bands would play it safe but not Queen. They put the most creative songs, including Bohemian Rhapsody on the album and finally were able to pay their bills and then some. On the album it says: Vocal Orchestration of Brass - Roger Taylor, Vocal Orchestration of Woodwind - Freddie Mercury. Basically fun in the recording studio with Roger and Freddie! Other fun songs on this album are Good Company with Brian playing Genuine Aloha Ukulele and creating a jazz band and Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon. Genius! Brian said if this album didn't do well they would probably have had to break up. Thank God it did well! You are right saying there weren't any other groups with these types of songs in 1975. There were great UK bands in the 70s but none were as creative as Queen. With 4 great songwriters you never heard repitition with Queen.

Freddie never had a voice lesson or teacher and over the years learned what he could actually do with his voice. He had no idea in the early years what kind of power he really had. He use to study singers like Frank Sinatra to try to learn how to control his breath to hold notes for a long period of time. I saw in a documentary where Freddie was talking to producer at the mixing desk and saying he wanted the sound at certain points of Bohemian Rhapsody to “pan” from one side to another. They played with the knobs until it sounded the way Freddie wanted. They were so ahead of their time. Yes, that was Brian again making noises with his mouth again! Lol. Freddie being born in Zanzibar was truly familiar with the “Seaside”

Two good songs who show Freddie's crystal clear voice like in the 70's are actually from the album "Innuendo" Freddie's last album being alive. One is "I'm Going Slightly Mad" Freddie used more his lower register singing it and then quite the contrast in "The Show Must Go On" with insanely high vocals that could shatter glas. I would like to recommend them and doing them back to back, because it's unbelievable that it was the same guy singing them shortly before his death. Not only from the registers but also the different moods they show. One song is full of humour and fun even though dealing with side effects of his medication, and the other one is him dealing with the end of his life. Freddie used to sing in the school choir in India for a short time, but when he started singing professionally he used to sing only in falsetto with his vibrato so strong that Roger compared his voice with an "amplified sheep". After listening to his first recording Freddie was quite upset about the way he sounded that he used a break of some weeks to work relentlessly on his voice so that when they started recording again he sounded the way he wanted. He always worked on his voice, keen to make it better and better throughout his career.

@@bluebell3720 Freddie recorded as Larry Lurex in the early 70's when they've had already established Queen. It was part of the contract they signed. Before Queen Freddie was in two bands Ibex and Wreckage before he joined Roger and Brian. They had soo many sides, even some music hall style or vaudeville songs like this (others are Bring back that Leroy Brown, and Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, both songs are very short.) Yes, Freddie made it sound so easy, but the vocals are sung incredibly high for a male. This is one song on which Brian had NO involvement - in any way -- Freddie & Roger did the "vocal orchestrations" -I heard that some of the "tap-dancing" sounds were just Fred tapping fingers on the desk with thimbles..

Hahaha thank you for bringing back memories. In primairy school we had to sing for a grade. Me as a Queen fan sang this song once in stead of everybodys 'row row row your boot' or the dutch 'Berend botje ging uit varen'. The look on our teachers face , I got an A for effort.... 😍

Awesome reaction, I am glad you can actually appreciate songs such as these, not everyone has the vision for it. This is pure Vaudeville or Music Hall. Of course a song such as this was never released as a single, but this song is quite popular with acapella groups and choirs. When you listen to songs such as these you should listen to all of expression in Freddie's voice. It something you don't hear that much from other singers. Throughout a song such as this Freddie would use different colours and tones in his voice to tell the story. Freddie's voice gained a lot more power during the 80's, and he had a much more macho image in the 80's. But he could still sometimes pull out the 70's vocals when he wanted. A great example of this is on their last album, Innuendo from 1991, with the song Don't Try So Hard kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGjOhpZrh8iAp8U, it is a great song. This is what opera singer Montserrat Caballe said about Freddie's voice: "He was able to glide effortlessly from one register to another. The difference between Freddie and almost all other rocks stars was that he was selling the voice. His phrasing was subtle, delicate and sweet or energetic and slamming. He was able to find the right colouring or expressive nuance for each word." Queen did panning right from their first album a great song from their first album with a lot of panning effects is My Fairy King kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJa5m3idad-hh80, it is probably the first epic song they tried to make. If you really want to hear Freddie's voice at the beginning, you should listen to basically one of the first recordings Freddie made, it was done under the name Larry Lurex, Brian and Roger are also playing on the song. It is a cover song from The Ronettes and The Beach Boys, I Can Hear Music kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaukZYKvltGHq6s. When you hear that it is somewhat astonishing to think how he went from this voice to the voice in Who Wants To Live Forever. Freddie actually started singing quite late, he only started singing around the age 23. He was in a school band, but he was only the piano player of the band, not the singer.

it comes from the album A night àt the opera.1974 - 1975. There are a lot of different sounds and rythm in this album. You already a lot ot its songs. I would like to see you to react to "Death on two legs - Live London 1979. first song of this album. You will see Freddie playing the piano intro in a very lazy, relaxed way.

@@HAP3SPEAKZ Well I suggest you the live version for the virtuosity of Freddie at playing piano and his attitude. But yes for the lyrics you should probably begin with the studio version. As for myself i would always watch live if I can. And for the story about "Don't stop me now" I heard two things : First Brian didn't like to play it because it remambered him the life that Freddie was living (need to be confirmed though). Second, a mathematician made some kind of equation (he didn't have something more important to do) inculding keys, rythm and so on to find what kind of songs would give happiness.. First one : Don't stop me now.

The lyric video is great. But this video pairs the recording with footage from the early 1900’s. It’s quite amusing to watch on your own. It’s pretty indicative of the time period. It always gives me a giggle. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kITEfoyhn66enJo 🤪🤪 BTW, in New Jersey we don’t go “to the beach”. Wherever you live we go down “to the shore”. It’s a Jersey thing 😉

This song was done by Freddie and Roger (maybe John) I think while Brian was in hospital. Anyway, the kazoo and high parts were done Roger and the low instruments done by Freddie. Years later Roger said they were playing around and he couldn't remember how they managed to do it. It's a 20s style.

brian was in hospital during the making of sheer heart attack in 1974 with his hepatitas b, not during the making of this album, they were holed up in rockfield studio, an old farm in wales recording this, they all had seperate bedrooms and lived on site, so brian was not in hospital during the making of this

Thanks for your comment Tania. From a management perspective I think most record labels would think twice before letting a song like this being released. Especially for a new band in the 70's to deciate a song to ragtime. Thus Queen certainly had the guts to release it at a time, I assume, would have otherwise hurted their career. I kind wanted to say that but not in so many words. (Copyrighted HAP3SPEAKZ) ©️
