This Bald Faced Hornet (Dolichovespula maculata) colonies built their nests side by side on a clients house! The clients were concerned to venture into their yard fearing the hornets would attack. So they called me to come and removed the colonies. I came out with my handy vacuum and sucked out all the hornets, pulled the nest down and fed it to my animals!

@@Lord_Baphomet_ HK can speak squirrel... I've tried to mimic it, but I can't. I do talk baby talk to deer, moose and antelope, but I've never been able to get an antelope (or squirrel) to eat from my hand. I did get a scorpion to do it once... probably from talking baby talk (JK, it was probably just hungry).

Bald Face Hornets was the most ever painful sting I ever took. I was an landscaper at the time and my partner & I was mulching a flowerbed that had a tree in the middle. Suddenly, I felt this sharp pain on the back on my neck and grabbed whatever it was and threw it to the ground. After seeing the bald face, I was wondering what it was because it was the first time seeing one, we looked up and seen this huge nest in the middle of the tree and then my partner and I started to get swarmed, so we left the area and jumped into the truck waiting for the scene to calm down. But it was crazy. Kudos to you Hornet King for what you do. Always enjoy your videos

I just watched a video from you 2 years ago where you dealt with a person yelling at you to get off her property, to the point you ended up getting the police involved. Then you go on to talk about your transition to wasp nest removal from nursing, and you even commented about your history in the nursing field. As a nurse myself (who also happened to work in post op recovery, though now in home care), it’s really nice to see that side of you. I can definitely appreciate your reasons for leaving the field (they are challenges I’ve thought about in my own career). So thank you my friend.

Great seeing the HQ in the video! I can’t believe that there were two bald face hornets nest on one house, ten feet apart. The only time I seen that was on your barn, three inches apart! Also when you had Humphrey that’s the first time I realized squirrels ate wasps/yellow jackets larvae (another learning moment from the past!). Question: Will squirrels, possums and skunks go after European hornets due to their sting? Another great video Bret!!

I recently met someone that's terrified of squirrels, never in my life thought someone felt afraid of such a cute creature. But she told some scary stories about how squirrels are so harmful to houses and can spread diseases. Now everytime I see one can't help but think about those stories and kinda get jumpy. Before that my daughters and I will be so excited to see squirrels! I moved to US a few years ago so I'm kinda new to seeing squirrels! Should we really try to keep them out of our property? 🐿️ ✨ Love your videos!!!
@andrewsinclair7159
@andrewsinclair7159 Жыл бұрын
Most people in the US don't care to do anything about squirrels on their property. They can sometimes nest inside of attics and cause damage, but that's not too common. They also might be a nuisance if you have bird feeders, because they can climb up and eat the bird seed. Another thing you should know about squirrels is that they can bite very, very hard if they feel threatened enough. The ones in the video are very tame and will let Hornet King pick them up, but don't ever try to do that with a wild squirrel because it will bite your hand.

I'm curious about some of the clothing techniques on the apiary suit. When I was watching videos of hazmat training exercises, I saw soldiers and marines wrapping duct tape around the writsts to provide an extra seal on the gloves and other seams (though I'm sure they already have some other kind of seal on them, redundancy in protection doesn't hurt when you're near something nasty). I remember in another video you mentioned that one potential point of failure in the apiary suit is the wrists where the gloves and sleeves overlap. Do any professionals that use apiary suits add in those sorts of temporary protections, like duct taping around the wrist and boots to provide an extra layer of protection against the glove/wrist seal breaking? The same can be said about the boots and pants, though I assume those aren't exposed as often as the sleeves and gloves. Awesome content, by the way. These videos are super satisfying to watch. Edit: Another thought I had while watching was the use of a hydration pouch or some other method of holding a water bottle on the inside of the suit so you can stay hydrated on these hot days without having to get a safe distance away from the nests first. These are thoughts from someone who hasn't worked with wasps, so if there are reasons not to do either of those things, I'd love to learn more about them and what techniques are used instead where possible.
