In double check, the king HAS to move out of check, vs other checks where you could cover up, capture the piece, or move the king. That’s one little mental shortcut I use.

@@BavarianSoldierthezetes means that you’re apparently putting them both enprise, even though they aren’t really, due to the double check not allowing captures. Often the piece uncovering the long check with a queen or rook is the only one that is put enprise, so this is pretty rare. The fact they both seem to be attacked makes it all the more beautiful.

Double checks aren’t automatically checkmates it’s only checkmate when the king has no other square to move to since other pieces can’t move. In the example you showed it’s because the knight covered the escape square

Yeah, this video kind of focuses on the wrong part of that attack. If the Knight had gone D6, that also would have been a double check, but not a checkmate, as the King could have escaped to D7. From F6 there was not only a double check, but the Queen stopped an escape to E7, and the Knight prevented the escape to D7.

Moral of the story: always be aware of a shielded attack on your king or queen. You must immediately take steps to neutralize it. Once the queen moved to E2, the danger was created. Also, whenever an opponent's knight has advanced to the rank just behind the center line, it's just one move away from creating a queen or king check; if they are sitting in their original position.

Not necessarily. In this case, yes, but if the queen or bishop weren't there the king could move. So a double check just checks the king on two lines, meaning you can't intercept with another piece and you're always forced to move the king.

Double check is any time you set up a situation where the king is being checked by two pieces. This is not a "just" discovered mate. A discovered mate can exist without a double check and a double check can be executed without it resulting in a checkmate. The beauty of this is that it is both and both the direct check and the discovery are necessary to get the #.

Now black plays g5 to block the check, and white plays hxg6+ (en passant), which reveals the check from both the bishop and the rook

It's check because the knight and queen are attacking the king. If a piece attacks the king, tha the king is in check. Hope that helps
