One thing I learned about aluminum is, it can easily fracture. It is nice for some items, but on a buggy, I'd only use it for fenders, side panels, a firewall/bulkhead between the ending and seat, and maybe a a bashing/skid plate. I like using steel because it's easy to work with, much more forgiving when welding I compared to aluminum. Not all personal aircraft is made from aluminum, some chose to use Chromoly steel, real thin walled tubing, needs to be pre- heat and post heat treated and preferably TIG welded. Mig welding is acceptable, long as you do the pre-heated and post heated to prevent material and weld cracking. It's very expensive. Anyway, cannot wait to see how this thing turns out. This thing is going to be a riot!

They make semi trailers out of aluminium. They do 70mph and carry 80,000 pounds. You could easily make this out of aluminium if you use the right stuff.

I have to throw some props to this guy. Coolant line frames; That takes some serious skill and he’s obviously not afraid to take on a challenge. I’m happy to see the custom frame combined with bigger / established motors. The small modified engines have their place, but I like to see the atv / motorcycle engines used as they are just more purpose built. Really nice job and looking forward to watching more of this build!

chromoly steel is actually lighter, stronger and it doesn’t crack like aluminum I know maybe it can be a little bit expensive but I think it’s worth it

It needs to be TIG welded with purge gas inside the tubes and the heat treated.

Use mild steel filler rod on cr-mo gives a strong joint that is unlikely to crack and doesn't require the whole frame to be heat treated.

I owned a 1986 CR500, it was a beast. Make sure to wear a heavy boot when kickstarting it, it almost broke my foot. Also make sure the motor mounts are strong, those motors vibrate a lot!

I’m glad some youtuber came to their senses on a off-road buggy using a kirkey containment seat. That’s what we use on our dirt stock car. They have a head containment seat that has head rests and shoulder rests. But it’s 500$

My opinion..I had a 350cc all aluminum custom kart..1 1/2 or 2 inch aluminum tube or pipe and it was tuff as nails..no suspension tho..that's why it's gone now..loving this build already!

Chrome moly is the way to go if you want light and strong. 080 wall cro-mo is the same strength as .110 mild steel.

Awesome project! Just make sure you insulate the coolant pipes by your arms so you don't get burnt. You may need also a booster pump for the coolant since the pumps on these engines are not that big and may struggle to flow all the way from the front to the back. I love a good 2 smoke project and miss riding them.

Oh god! I had an 80’s CR500 in the mid/late 90’s. I rebuilt the top end after a year or so of use. It was the first new piston/ring/cylinder installed. Easily doubled the power. I can say, to this day the most terrifying motorcycle I’ve ever ridden. Having that power on 4 wheels should be much more manageable. Should be.......
