Hey Buck, totally off topic about the meet and greet, but have you ever seen the videos posted by "Gritty Soldier"? If not, it may help you with some ideas for similar ruck content. I know he went through Ranger School but not sure if he is 75th. He does alot of stuff around Bragg

I've identified different phases that the brain goes through when ruckmarching: 1: Feeling good, this is easy 2: Fidgeting with your kit, trying to stay comfortable 3: This is dumb, why am I doing this? 4: Lost in thought/memory 5: It hurts 6: You forget you have a big ass rucksack on for periods of time 7: restart this list ad infinitum

I highly recommend Blackhawk Desert Ops boots. Very light boot, with thick, very soft, rounded heel. The most I ever got from these boots are mild hot spots, but never full on blisters.

Feet: Biggest nightmare when they hurt. For those in selection this may not be available - but - if you hike wearing a thin liner (silk, cotton) under your wool sock, the liner is against your foot and the wool is against your boots. This allows slippage between liner and wool so you are far less likely to get those rub-induced blisters.

Early in basic they had us do like a 5 mile march to get to the obstacle course. I was brand new had no idea how to tie my boots properly and had never worn anything but sneakers. My feet got torn the hell up, huge heel blisters. Awesome side effect though, they popped and eventually turned into leather. I had this big ass area of like dead skin on both heels. Made BCT rucking a lot easier after that.

You said in the previous video something like either just carry on or call 911 to come and get You. That’s the thing. Even if you quit at say, 15 miles you still have 5 miles To go to get back to your car anyway. So you might as well just carry on and get it done.

For anyone wondering about another perspective on rucking long distances- I just did a 26 miler 2 days ago. Same experiences as he talked about. You start to feel the blisters. Even in good boots and not running they still show up around 14-16 miles. After that it was just a pure mental descent into hell. Just basically tell yourself quitting isnt an option. Accept the pain and dont stop moving. Hold onto the positive moments, whether its a snack, or seeing an animal, etc and ignore the bad. 98% is bad after like 15 miles lol. Other than that pack your ruck tight like his other vid says. I have back issues and honestly my back felt better after the 26 miles somehow. I attribute it to good weight displacement. If you have any questions hit me up because its still fresh in my mind.

@Ollysint
@Ollysint 2 жыл бұрын
@@kadedribnak932 I changed socks one time at around 10-12 miles. I did use very high quality darn tough socks though. Im a big believer in high quality for keeping your feet intact. Other than that I had some foot powder on hand, as well as some blister prevention but I honestly didnt use any of that. If I had I might have lasted slightly longer without blisters, but its impossible to say. After the initial sock change I just wanted to finish so I didnt really stop.

I want to say I watched your video, went out on a training ruck with a sim load (alice frame trainer and vest), and here in the mountains of TN the rocky terrain really gives you options about how you want to injury yourself. roots water over the paths, horse skat everywhere. . . anyways long story short I got to a point where the park i was at is closing in about an hour and I'm not even halfway to the fork/ circle around of the trail which should be 16-17 miles. I hail the Ranger and let him know I'm egressing with my kit. i didn't spend the night in the park, (no sleeping bag. . . ) but I also didn't receive a ticket from officer Keith! closing this out, Thanks you.

Read from a Marine Raider that he put Vaseline on his feet during MARSOC A&S and didn't get blisters again. Prevents friction for hot spots and the coating stops the movement of your socks/boots from contacting the skin causing blisters. Never tried it though

Great video and as always the positivity is off the charts. Best ruck quote I ever heard was by trainees in FORCE RECON School. 3 Trainees were asked by the Master Gunnery Sergeant, one replied you’ll know when I’m done because I’m face down in the mud and I’m not breathing. Awesome mentality.

Try the garmots both the nfs and the t8. I use the the T8 when I know there’s a lot of shit in the ground like rocks, big gravel pieces or those stupid fucking chode twigs that get cut but are hard as fuck but nfs are the more sneaker feeling ones and I can really get on a good pace with those and if it’s on an improved roads it’s saves my knees.. I know I don’t know shit for real but I’ve literally been trying all types of boots and getting after some rucking and those are just what I’ve found to work best and I’ve gotten a lot of other soldiers at my unit on them… I’m a reservist so everyone’s got the “Nike or you’re broke” mentality.
