Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference: 0:00 - Intro 1. 0:49 {Conviction vs. Condemnation} Can you help me process the difference between “conviction” and “condemnation”? I know it’s right to feel sorry when I sin, but where’s the fine line between that feeling and allowing my guilt to cripple me and make me feel like a failure who is unclean before God? 2. 14:09 {Thoughts about IVF} What are your thoughts about IVF? I’ve been battling infertility for a few years, but I’m concerned about whether IVF is biblically acceptable, especially about discarding the extra embryos. Is it equal to abortion to discard the embryos even if we can't guarantee they will grow if planted in the womb? 3. 18:32 {Did the Father Turn His Face Away?} Did the Father really turn His face away from Jesus on the cross? 4. 24:27 {About the Witness in John 8} In John 8: 13-19, Jesus testifies that the Father is His witness. Given the emphasis on 2 witnesses in the Law, why did He not mention the Holy Spirit in this point? The absence is conspicuous. 5. 31:06 {Are Ministry Raffles & Lotteries Biblical?} What does the Bible say about ministries that raise money using raffles, lotteries, or giveaways? Would you give money to them? They appeal to my (and presumably others’) carnality. Is this sinful? 6. 37:01 {The Trinity: Can We Ever be 100% Certain?} I've been fighting doubts and "what ifs" about the Trinity lately, and though I'm confident in the answers I've gotten, I fear I'll never be certain about it again. Any advice? 7. 45:02 {Help Understanding Gossip} I’ve been confused about what type of talk is considered “gossip.” I don’t want to be doing it, but sometimes it’s hard for me to tell if it’s gossip or not. How do I tell what is and isn’t gossip? 8. 49:32 {Are there Differing Accounts of Who Saw Jesus?} How should we explain the differing accounts of people who saw Jesus after He rose? Some verses say women saw Him first, and others say men. 9. 52:04 {Is it Biblical to Spank Children?} Is it biblical for parents to spank their children? Does it model Christian character? Any advice for parents on how to biblically discipline their children, especially young children (around 2 years old)? 10. 57:47 {About the Treasure/Pearl in Matthew 13} Is Matthew 13: 44-46 about us finding salvation in Jesus, OR is it about Jesus giving all for us? Is the treasure/pearl our salvation in Jesus? Or is it our value to Him? 11. 1:02:38 {Wisdom in Applying for Ministry Jobs} I'm pursuing a degree in religion, and considering looking for ministry jobs. Is it right of me to apply for ministry jobs I might not be qualified for and trust the church to make a good decision? 12. 1:04:13 {Clarifying a Confusing Verse} What’s your opinion on Genesis 3: 16? ESV says “contrary to” and other translations say “for.” It can’t be both, can it? I’m so confused by it. 13. 1:09:39 {Did God Command Balaam & then Become Upset?} Why does God get angry with Balaam in Numbers 22: 20-22 for going when it seems He just told him to go in verse 20? 14. 1:16:01 {About Repentance & Rebuke} Can you talk about Luke 17:3? Should you rebuke someone after they repent? 15. 1:19:23 {Does God Only Speak through Scripture?} Does God still speak to us? I have heard it said that if you want to hear God speak, read your Bible; and if you want to hear Him speak audibly, read the Bible out loud. I believe God does still speak, but I’m conflicted. 16. 1:25:43 {Why is Transgender Surgery Wrong?} If Christian work is restorative: healing the sick, clothing the naked, etc. to create "foretastes" of Heaven, then why is transgender surgery wrong? Isn't that also restorative/fixing disorder? 17. 1:31:53 {About Prophecy in Matthew’s Gospel} A Muslim asked: “Why did the Gospel of Matthew ascribe the prophecy in Isaiah 7 to Jesus, when that prophecy described events which didn’t happen within centuries in Jesus’ lifetime?” 18. 1:36:16 {Loving our Enemies when it’s Difficult} How must we love enemies according to the Bible in extreme scenarios, such as loving murderers and rapists? In which way should we love them? 19. 1:38:34 {Should Pastors Preach Using Commentaries?} We just got a new pastor, and he preaches from commentaries in addition to the Bible. Is this something that we should be cautious about? Is there a line where it can become too much? 20. 1:40:17 {Can God be in the Presence of Sin?} If God cannot be in the presence of sin, how do you reconcile an eternal perfect unity within the Trinity with the moment that Jesus “became sin” on the cross?

I pulled into my driveway at 1:15 am on Monday, I was crying asking God for forgiveness. I said look at Jesus, do not look at me. After Christ became my king my sin in my life was amplified so much it crushes me, but as I walk I see that Jesus paid for it all on the cross. I trust in him despite my iniquity. Amen.

My brother, Jesus was tempted, but did not sin. Temptation is not the same as sin, sin is the action of obeying the temptation. Temptations will never end, but after dying with Christ, you have been set free from the slavery to sin. You are not a slave to your flesh, because Jesus died on the flesh, to make you be able to live for God on the Spirit. If you have repented, and changed your mind about being in sin, your sinful nature has died with Him on the cross. You're a new creation. If you don't believe me, I suggest you read the book of Romans.

@Bernardo Rojas de Luna . I struggle too and still struggle with things. And struggling with condemnation. It says We must be a living sacrifice. Which is our reasonable service for what YAHUSHA done for us. Be Ye HOLY as I AM HOLY. I truly believe we must get to a place where we are not living in willful sin whatsoever. He said to Mary Magdala Go and sin NO MORE. NOT go and sin less that before. SIN NO MORE. WHICH I CAN SAY IS SUCH A DIFFICULT WALK. We must be striving to live HOLY and RIGHTEOUS. I hope this helps. But as I said. Struggle with sin as well. It is a process. But obedience is better than sacrifice. If we obey and put away that unclean thing willingly. We won’t be asked to sacrifice because we already made the willful commitment. I believe that when we allow it (sin) to continue unchecked we are spitting in the face of Grace This can be extremely dangerous idolatrous and border line blasphemous. We must submit. You are not alone. I’m here trying with you. I love you brother. Keep fighting. Put on the whole armor of YAHUAH!!!!

As for the IVF question, I would like to add that you can donate your unused embryos to childless couples. We ended our process with 7 viable embryos. We used 2 and got twins. We went back later and used 2 more that resulted in a miscarriage. We are donating our last three embryos to an infertile couple, hoping this blesses them with the family they desperately want. Destroying them was never an option to us. We believe as you do, Mike, that destroying them would be sinful. I believe that God allowed us to struggle with infertility for multiple reasons. It brought me closer to Him (eventually, after some tantrums on my part). It taught me that I am not in control, no matter how well I plan. It brought us our oldest child (whom we met through the foster system). And it is now allowing us the chance to be part of God's blessing for another family. Thank you, Mike, for addressing this issue that is so important to those of us who have been touched by infertility. I believe that God is always in control, and He can use infertility to bring about good.

“To truly grow as a parent, I examine my thoughts, feelings and motives, and I surrender them to God’s Grace and truth.” Found in the book “Discipline that Connects with your child’s heart,” by Jim and Lynne Jackson - this book also has scenarios and actual Biblical verses (unlike the spare the child verse that is quoted out of context all the time to justify spanking) we can do as parents in disciplining our kids. Also in my experience parents who hit or spank use this as there go to discipline every single time. Spanking and hitting are the easiest things we can do as parents - that is the definition of lazy parenting - the harder thing to do is to go to God and ask “am I being an ambassador for Jesus” “am I being slow to anger” check your emotions with James 3:17. The Bible tells us to train up our child in the way that they should go - training does not mean beating or hitting, rather it’s taking the time and doing the work with the wisdom given to us in scripture by the Holy Spirit. Parents are the adult in the relationship - the younger the child is the less developed their mental and emotional capacity are and the more they need our grace and our patience and our compassion. If God literally hit us every time we messed up - how would you respond? Of course He has every right to do so and quite frankly in my life he could have been less compassionate with how he corrected me but the love He showed us all by giving us His one and only son shows how much love and grace and mercy He has - he expects us to do the same with our kids. Especially with our kids. Training up our kids in the Lord allows them to see us as parents as representatives of what being like Christ actually means from our example of how we parent. Not perfect and when I do act out in anger I say sorry to my children- every single time. God cares about relationships and spanking kids from one verse pulled out of context and not doing any work to train is unbiblical and causes so much harm. I urge any parents who currently resort to spanking all the time for discipline to really seek out God and His wisdom on this topic as the harm done to small kids (who grow up one day and then continue in hurting others physically including their own children) who are spanked by “well meaning” parents creates sin issues in both the parent and one day in the child. “It’s the parent’s responsibility to be growing in grace and truth and in discernment about what consequences effectively reach their children’s hearts,” page 169 in their book. May God give us wisdom.

Thank you for sharing your insight.. As a child I was often grabbed and beaten with belts, hands or fists. I often didn't know ahead of time what I had done wrong. And many times, afterwards, felt that I was hated by both parents. Needless to say, I chose a very different parenting style which has resulted in a very healthy relationship with my daughter as she was glowing up and as an adult. I still find myself struggling with the emotional and physical memories of this childhood trauma. I'm currently working on forgiving my parents which has become a process of God healing my own heart from the trauma..

@@terryhuffaker3615 thank you for sharing your story. Unfortunately as a believer and someone who fully believes that the Bible is the living word of God to be trusted and followed - I have heard so many stories like this from ppl raised in “christian homes” I’m so saddened by this - because from other faiths - specifically the Jewish household (as I also know a lot of practicing Jews) they don’t have this experience as they say us Christians have totally messed up this tradition and it goes against what they believe God permits for the handling of children. After much prayer and research, I was taken aback to how the Bible actually never condones parents to physically hit their kids. When you look at the stories of Jesus with children and how he interacts with them in the New Testament you see compassion and love and kindness and grace. As believers we should follow this with the children we have under our care, and the testimonies of those who practice what Jesus preaches in how they interact with those around them (including their children of course) bear the fruits of the spirit. I encourage you to continue to walk in forgiveness with your parents ( I know it’s not easy I’m also on this journey with my own mother), but God will be with you in this process and because His word stands the test of time He will never leave your side even in the midst of the most difficult storm - oh what a wonderful blessing to have a friend like Jesus who loved us before we loved him. Be encouraged Terry - I’m praying for you. Psalm 91.

I'm confused as to whether you're disagreeing with Mike. Mike agreed that hitting out of anger is a sin issue for the parent. The question of whether or not spanking in and of itself is sin should be answered on the merits of spanking itself, not the sinful motives a parent may have. That's what Mike tried to do; I can't tell if that's what you're doing. Some parents who spank are quick to anger and are lazy parents as you say, but we aren't talking about anger or laziness, we're talking about spanking. You don't decide whether an action is wrong based on scenarios where the action is applied incorrectly to begin with. If you feel that if you spanked then it would only be out of anger or laziness, then yes you are doing the good and virtuous thing in abstaining from spanking. But I don't see how you can definitively say those are the only motives that any parent could possibly have to spank and therefore spanking is a sin. I had an abusive parent who only spanked when they were angry so I understand the emotional damage that can do to a child, but I think you're making an unfair generalization about all parents. Mike also never said he resorts to spanking as his go-to parenting skill (I don't even think he has children?), nor did he endorse that in the video, so I'm confused by that statement you made. He did imply your go-to parenting style should specifically _not_ be spanking with more mature children, but he took no stance on what go-to parenting style you _should_ use for younger children.

My family and I go to a southern baptist church. You, along with Frank Turek and friends (Alisa Childers, Melissa Dougherty, and Allen Parr) provide a nice balance between my church, Fighting for the Faith (confessional Lutheran) and the gang of solid reformed podcasts/shows and pastors I like to listen to like Wretched Radio, John MacArthur, Steve Lawson, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, and the old guys like a Charles Spurgeon. I have learned that I can have a healthy mix of people who I know are doing sound biblical exegesis because we’re all brothers and sisters in Christ by believing in the historical Christian gospel and that having disagreements in secondary and tertiary issues is okay. E.g. my pastor’s eschatology is amillennial but my small group Sunday school teacher in the same church is post millennial and values MacArthur’s commentary! But we discussed how differences in eschatology should not divide us, because we all believe Jesus is coming back on judgement day. (Your video on that helped me greatly btw, especially realizing that we can get along with preterists and only “hyper-preterism” is heretical!) Thanks again!

He was later seen I'm a body cast but we never saw him again. I'm glad my uncle didn't know, at that time, cause he would have went to prison for murder. I told him after I was grown. God really made sure that man was too scared to find us again. God hates that evil, I believe it!

Brother Mike, your love for God's Word is evident in the way you diligently discern interpretation of the truth in scripture. I think your humility in approaching the correct way to think about theology and doctrine is absolutely the correct way to be. We must be humble and realize we're prone to pride, stubbornness and self glorification in being correct. That human fallacy can hinder our growth and make us resistant to the leading of God. God bless you, thank you for your service to our Lord.

As I watch this, the question at 37 minutes or so about uncertainty makes me think of Ecclesiastes. In that book it tells us that trying to figure it all out really is a futile attempt like trying to grab at smoke and in the end the author of the book tells us that when we are uncertain about things and that we have doubts that we just trust in the Lord and keep to our faith. Yes it's a good idea to study and research but when it really comes down to it, we will never know all of the answers. God is the only one with absolute knowledge of everything. I don't know if I'm articulating my point very well but the whole time Mike was discussing it, I just kept thinking back to Ecclesiastes. Just pray, fear the Lord, and have faith. Ecclesiatses 12:12-14 "And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil."

52:29 There’s also another verse regarding the rod with specific ties to the action of using it to discipline. "Do not with- hold discipline from your son; if you beat him with a rod, he will not die" (Prov 23:13).

Conviction as a Christian is simply strong belief in a truth as defined by God. Convicted == convinced. There is no condemnation in Christ. Feeling guilt never stopped any sin cycle, but understanding truth can.
@martinvivian97722 жыл бұрын
I feel like you just said it way better than Mike. My thoughts are, one is convicted when one's brain realises and agrees about something, normally about an action being immoral, but one can also be convicted about ones righteousness in Christ too, even simultaneously John 16:8. Condemnation is guilt of the soul about doing something you've already been convicted of, which has no place in a Christian, because there is no guilt left after Jesus paid for it all!

I've been a Christian for 40 years and I've never heard "God can't be in the presence of sin". He's omnipresent, He's always in the presence of sin.
@levifox28182 жыл бұрын
The way I’ve heard it isn’t “God can’t be in the presence of sin” but “sin can’t be in the presence of God.” Yes, God is omnipresent. Presence just has multiple meanings. God’s presence can also be manifested in special ways, like in the Israelite tabernacle and temple.

Mike, thank you for modeling being a faithful follower of Christ. There are so many professing followers of Christ with channels on KZbin, and your channel is one of the ones I appreciate most. Around 34:00 into the video, you shared how you find it strange that congregations would put peoples names on pews for their generous donations. You also shared that if someone wanted to donate generously to your work for a public acknowledgement, you would say no. Those kinds of small revelations of your conviction really reveals where you heart and allegiance is. It is encouraging.

I absolutely love listening to your Q and A sessions. I truly learn so much….but in all honesty, I would rather receive a full answer, to the best of your ability, than one cut short for the sake of time. I do understand the purpose being that we learn to think Biblically ourselves. Nevertheless, better 17 or 18 well answered questions than 20 unfinished or not as clear. In either case; Thank you so much for what you do.

The question about God speaking to us is a great one. I truly believe that God speaks to us immediately through his word in the Bible, through others to us and directly to us. I was going though serious depression once and the words came to me 'in all things give thanks'. Frankly, this seemed crazy to me at the time. A week or so later we had a bible class where we had to pick a verse without seeing it and talk about it. I picked the very same verse from Thessalonians. Since then I've never had the same experience with depression and if my mood changes, I apply those words. This is only one story I can cite, but yes, I believe God speaks to us not only through his word, which comes first. Knowledge of the word also helps us to avoid being led by our emotions, so we are told to use the spirit of discernment rather than raw human emotions.

0:50 - This is a question that I've been struggling with, especially in the last few years, and ESPECIALLY this past year. Been having random sinful thoughts cross my mind that I've been struggling with, not because I want them to. And it seems like the more I try not to let things like that enter my thoughts, the more they do. And I'm also constantly fighting condemning myself because of those thoughts crossing my mind. I desperately don't want to have those sinful thoughts cross my mind, and I desperately want to have peace.

Also, I was told the sheep couldn't get back up after falling without help from the Shepard. In my life, I've fallen several times and I couldn't get up without Jesus' help! He doesn't use to rod to beat us, He uses it to correct us. There is a big difference. The times I felt beat, Satan is the one who was abusing me, not Jesus. Do you know a sheep who got up all by themselves? I think not.. This is when I realized how much I really needed God.

About the section on doubt. I think I have seen this video before. I have been diagnosed with PTSD. My father was abusive, and now when I feel fear I start doubting everything. I start to doubt reality if i let it get that bad. I Can usually catch it earlier. I’ve been praying for help with it. I think God showed me this video. When I attempted to end my life earlier this year, I believe He told me to take my shoes off before I got in the water. I had no intention of getting out of the water, so taking them off would not matter. But I took them off, and the water was freezing cold. The mud Between my toes was so cold. It shocked me enough that I got out of the water. If I had not taken them off, I believe I would have taken that bottle of pills and died in that river. I drove home, and texted my sister. She asked me if I was ok, and I told her no. My brother in law drove over to get me, and I was saved on the car ride over when He told me about Christ all over again. I don’t know why, but the way He said it stuck. I wish I had come to Christ earlier, but I hope that anyone who hears my story knows it’s never too late to stop what you are doing and obey God. I believe God tries to save everyone from suicide, those survival instincts? That’s God. But He gives us all a choice, living for Him an act of will and a state of being. It’s a relationship. I think it helps me a lot to write down what I experience and feel sometimes. I hope it can help others too. One thing He’s given me since I got out of that river is persistence. I never had it before, but I needed it to pursue Jesus. I used to never play games because I was afraid of losing. Now I get up every morning, and brush my teeth and wash my face and eat breakfast and go to work and do my best. To anyone struggling with depression, this sounds like a myth or fantasy. It’s real. He can do it. Just obey Him, if you wanna know how to obey Him read His word. He wrote a book, read it. My mom used to say God helps those who help themselves. Read, pray, live, eat, take a long walk. Do it for the one who loves you most. God does the rest

I had a youth pastor growing up say. If the person the conversation is about isn't involved and you wouldn't feel comfortable if they heard what was being said. It's probably gossip. As for the Johnny Depp I personally feel like this is so big because how far society has been pushed into believing that only certain list of people are in abuse. As a society we got comfortable with only believing a certain way. And that was taken advantage of. I'm so glad that the narrative is shifting. I'm hoping that this will be a reminder to everyone that abuse doesn't care about gender, age, or popularity.

I have been apart of this small church group(I am no longer though) for the past year and a half and I have begun to finally listen to my missgivings about their lack of going into Scripture. Things have been said like " Only go to Scripture when God leads you to reading it" They say, act and talk as though their relationships with God have improved, but I can't reconcile that with a lack of desire to read Scripture and seemingly making excuses not to. This is the prime reason I left. Though there are other reasons. The problem now though is that I have no church anymore and I'm not really sure were God wants me as far as a church. But I would like a house church group that actually dives into God's word and we disscuss from it.

@@skippy675 Yes. As you mentioned this the principle Christianity is built on. Jesus was sinless (innocent) and he decided to take the punishment that humanity deserves (guilty). The whole idea that a sinner can’t be in the presence of God or they will be automatically blasted into oblivion is shown to be not true when we see Satan coming before God in Job! It is up to God whether or not a sinner can be in His presence.

I’m guessing minimal force means minimal force while remaining safe. Obviously there’s some level of trade off, but it’s better if we can avoid harming the intruder while still meeting a threshold of safety. Not all intruders want to kill you, they might be hoping no one is home, etc.

Walking according to the Spirit is not our perfection in the Spirit but our faith in the Spirit of Jesus for our security in His salvation. He keeps us. The fruits of the Spirit of Jesus, is not only what we hope to have, but also what is perfected in Jesus and that we can count on when trusting in Him. So we are corrected in this Spirit and hope to follow after, and strive to have such fruit. Also we are comforted that His love never fails and have security in knowing the fruits of His Spirit. We do not turn walking according to the Spirit into a mentality of being under the condemnation of the law. We find comfort and strengthen our faith in Jesus knowing He is perfect in this fruit towards us, and by our faith we are given increase by God
