I think it did reasonably well for it's price. Got me curious, so it modeled up in WinISD. The parameters look like a compliance controlled driver, and WinISD agreed suggesting a sealed 1.5cu^ft box - so I'll stick with that. Seeing a compliance controlled driver at this price point is very unusual. They don't list xmax or xlim (missing too many Thiele-Small parameter), but I'm feeling pretty confident that it doesn't have 1/2" excursion capability to handle 400W RMS @ 45hz (the natural -3db it would roll off in said box), let alone 11/16" through 3/4" at 30hz... Probably best suited for a 150~200W RMS amp (150W I think would push it pretty close to my best guess of reasonable xmax and xlim). The group delay numbers look nice and tight - again, that's extremely surprising at this price point and far from what I was expecting. Based on what I can analyze, it theoretically should make for some pretty tight bass although very quiet sub in said box. I can est. about 108db output at 150W (not taking into account cabin gain) - which should work okay in a paired set with most factory radio setups. Very fun watching it blow up. Keep up the great content! :-)
@07wrxtr15 жыл бұрын
I'm convinced though that it just wouldn't last that long / take abuse like a JL product could... I suppose if the end use was extremely careful, but I've just not seen a lot of lower cost subs take longterm abuse. There's always the one off's however and maybe I'm wrong, but I've never had issues with JL Audio, RF, Kicker...
@nukedathlonman5 жыл бұрын
@@07wrxtr1 I agree, I don't think it'll be a good long term sub, esp for more demanding users (I know it wouldn't last for me). I was looking at it more closely for s*t and giggles - plug the Thiele-Small Parameters into the software and see what happens when I look at the resulting default model. I don't think it's exactly awful for some installs from a $20 value perspective. But I certainly am not or would I ever imply it's a high quality sub like a JL, Rockford, etc. - it is in fact quite limiting from my perspective.

I really liked this video. 1. It was in 4K. Awesome idea. We need more 4K video of this stuff. The quality and bit rate were excellent. 2. You pushed the most budget sub ever to its limit. Like the "budget gem" thing you and Ryan highlight with amps, it would be cool to see how much you can get out supposedly junk Walmart/flee market subs. My only constructive criticism: every time Blaupunkt gets mentioned, I think there should be a disclaimer about how they used to be one of the greats in audio. I hate to think there are people who's only knowledge of Blaupunkt is this mass produced, sweatshop stuff, that's no where to the same company from 30 years ago.

I almost bought one of those $19 10" blaupunkt woofers just for shits and giggles. For the price, its s decent sub. I'll tell you this though, theres gotta be some extreme sweatshop labor going on in order to bring a speaker like that to be sold for $19. They must cost like 3 or 4 dollars in china for them to make money off off those bring sold for that price. Either that, or some extreme mismanagement when they calculated how many were going to be sold. RIP little buddy.

For a single 12" sub in a car just for some decent bass That is TOP Value. Add a small power amp and a home made box and Sweet Bass for cheap. Its not a SPL competition sub but for what it does for the price, it can't be beat.

@paulcampbell86965 жыл бұрын
These things will sound just as good as any other sub at any price at moderate volume levels, as long as they are in a suitable enclosure, and aren't being driven beyond their limits to stay within their distortion limits. The "speed" people are always saying they are trying to achieve with their subwoofer is predominantly a result of having a strong midbass driver that is well crossed-over to the subwoofer. Lots of hard hitting bass notes start above 80hz before hitting deep milliseconds later. Just like in the car audio craze of the 90's, people are completely jinxed by the "Emperor's New Clothes" effect, where they think they are hearing better sound simply because they payed more for a speaker, or because that speaker is composed of high-end looking materials. Back when I used to work in a high-end shop, we used to pass the downtime doing double-blind listening tests between high and low end speaker wire, interconnects, single and bi-wire setups, and subwoofers. What we discovered was that, all things being equal, all those things sounded EXACTLY the same, even in a heavily treated room, providing a ridiculous listening environment. There is no need for high-end wires or cables. Subwoofers generally sound the same when compared to similar drivers, at moderate levels. ALL your sound quality is going to come from your speakers and your processing. Even budget amplifiers sound great if you don't push them beyond their abilities.

I had an American Bass 12 I got for like 70 bucks on Amazon, read the spec sheet and saw 600 watts but didn't realize it was the peak rating. I was pounding it with a 1k rms rated amp for good 4 months, it would get smelly from time to time. Started noticing it would make some weird sounds at certain frequencies, but others were loud and clear. I ended up replacing it but the sub still plays. Just sounds off on certain notes. I was dumbfounded as to what could have caused it. I've never had a sub react like that.

@@Zack-dk3pt I was definitely impressed by the quality of sound I got out of the woofer, and it took over 2x it's power rating for a good 6 months before I started noticing any problems. I'm pretty sure the issue was a voltage drop from having a bad battery in my system anyways. I replaced it and I'm running a Memphis mojo5 12 now on about 1500 rms. 11.2Amps across 3.2ohms will consume 401.4Watts, (that will drop as the coil gets warmer) so it is safe to say that 10A Slow blow fuse will protect the speaker. That would allow for an average of 36V across the speaker which would pull around 34 Amps off the 12V supply. There are variables such as the power factor of the amplifier'ss internal power conversion system and actual supply voltage. I used to have some EV Force 10's and 12's which had fins on the back of the magnetic center post backplate for heat dissipation. They were rated 150W continuous/600W peak with a freq response of 75-7000Hz for the 10"s and 65-7000Hz for the 12's. The were considered full range musical instrument loudspeakers. They were loud, with a SPL (1w@1meter) of 105db and provided very accurate reproduction of the sound waves.

Dereck, I've had 4 of these sitting here for a couple weeks for use in the $150 SPL Challenge. Haven't opened them up. Did yours come with any recommendations for enclosure size? Just need to find the right size for enclosure. 👍

When you read the specs • ~ 4 lb magnet, 2 inch VC, and the cone and surround looked good. I would say those speakers are exceptional for the money. Just 1 of those in my car would be more than sufficient at producing ample bass. Fortunately I have the good sense to not listen to anything above 110 dB for extended periods and still have good hearing. I like music, not loud out of proportion booms. That Blaupunkt handling more than 500 watts tells me it's plenty loud.

Wired in parallel at 1.3 Ohms, they was connected to the sub channel of my RF T1000x5AD seeing about 700 watts. The hit hard, enough that the roof of my car rippled, flexed impressively. Only issue box consumed to much space, went a single 12. I miss the hit one could hear a block away, but enjoy having my hatch back. Now the box sits in my home office serving as my printer table, sad. will watch video later today... thanks
