Fun fact, Tal was asked in the 80s how would he do against the 1960 Tal, and he said that he would crush the 1960 Tal. And I believe he said that not because he is a better player, but simply he has way more experience and knowlege. Sorry for my english
@vlindstrom Жыл бұрын
Don't worry! Your English is quite good 😊 I've seen and heard native English speakers with a vastly inferior command of the language. The only real mistake was that you used "simple" instead of "simply", and after "simply", the word "because" should have been added. Hope that helped a little! Cheers 🙌🏽

You mention Karpov, he was brilliant at Linares in 1994, and may deserve more credit these days; he was crushing Kasparov in their first world title match, but the rules had the match go on and on to a battle of attrition and stamina. Kasparov gained a great deal from that experience of so many games v a master. Tal of course is famed for a very different style to Karpov, an attacking genius, but there's some Karpov here.

Much pawn advantage a bishop vs bishop Game Over
@GeraldM_inNC Жыл бұрын
@6:10 I hated bishop to B7 the instant it was played, because even to an amateur like me it was obvious that the bishop would be useless the rest of the game. Effectively black played from that point on down a bishop. Agadmator said that it was right because it put the bishop on the same diagonal as the white king, but it was obvious that the pawns blocking the bishop's diagonal were never going to move.

Let me guess... in the next round, he drew Korchnoi. Am I right? In his autobiography (which he published before this game), he talks about his lifelong inability to overcome Korchnoi, even in critical games where "I could not lose if I tried"... and then something bizarre happens. Although to be fair, as Tal himself acknowledges, most of the time Korchnoi just had his number. As in boxing, styles make games.

A point of English grammar you consistently get wrong: its 'this is a position that has never been reached BEFORE' and NOT 'this is a position that has never been reached AGAIN'
@fabianhauser708 Жыл бұрын
No, for older games he is doing this "never again" on purpose because I suppose it is considered by him to be more interesting for us viewers that an interesting older game has not been repeated yet. Only for newer games he mentiones the obvious "never before". It would be a fun work to figure out statistically when he in average switches "again" and "before"... By watching many games now I would guess the switch in his interest usually happens at games from around the 1990/2000 era :-)

Chess newbie here, why is it possible to checkmate opponent king by supporting your checkmating piece with another piece that is already pinned to your king by an opponent piece?
@pablofleitas5967 Жыл бұрын
That situation arose when I was playing against my dad as a kid, I tried to take the piece delivering check while the piece defending the checkmating piece was pinned. Needless to say I wasn't allowed to take that piece. First. Basically, although a piece is pinned, it is still considered to be defending the piece delivering check. Second. Your king can't take a piece that is defended because that would put your king in check, and you can't move your own king into check. I found these to be the FIDE rules governing that case: Article 3: The Moves of the Pieces - 3.1.3 A piece is considered to attack a square even if this piece is constrained from moving to that square because it would then leave or place the king of its own colour under attack. - 3.9.2 No piece can be moved that will either expose the king of the same colour to check or leave that king in check. Sorry for the long post, hope it makes sense.
