Like I said crankcase seals the bottom could be the bad one and check the fuel pump vacuum, it might have a small hole in the diaphragm and pissing fuel into the block ! That would cause the high rev in neutral . Good luck 👍

also had a motor that would die in a long idle zone tried to eliminate all possible air leaks, , that gas tank pick up is two pieces, got the same one, pulled out white tube out, applied Aviation Form-a gasket ( fuel proof), put back in, no possible air leak at low idle, next changed hoes connection on tank to Mercury type connector but universal sprayless connector is good too , then removed connection at motor and went directly to fuel pump.

I'd go over a quick compression test again after running that air silencer without those plugs in, but check the voltage on the sensor coil and the charge coil . if the sensor coil is off, it will throw the timing out. if it was an air leak (crank seals too) it would spit and lean-sneeze at idle. the flywheel slipping and sheared key is another possibility. you will get there!
@davekimbler23083 жыл бұрын
Valid point ! But that wouldn’t cause the high rev in neutral !

@@davekimbler2308 right it cannot, but i like to check the whole ignition out to make sure everything is in spec. a good way to eliminate stuff! the only time i've seen this happen a few times is when the throttle butterfly/s are stuck open partially, or a sheared flywheel key, or the spark advance lever sticks.

Nice Bass! I noticed your fuel bulb laying sideways. Have your tried keeping it upright. Maybe the check valve is closing off like its being sucked closed and the engine is getting a higher concentration of air to fuel. Also, did you check the jets in the bottom of the fuel bowl?

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yes, my tank, fuel line, connections, and new primer bulb were the first thing I eliminated a few episodes back. All is good. I did actually zip tie the bulb in a upright position at one point but it was no help due to a slight air leak at the brass connection on the tank. My carbs are smokin clean, the high speed orifices/jets in the bowls are wide open and the evinrude rips at wot. I'm hitting 34 mph on the gps. No issues there. Watching this again on a rainy Thursday night and noticed that the carburetor brass tune looks a lot different the slow idle part is shorter and the ones on the 40 is that supposed to be like that?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD13 жыл бұрын
Hey. I think I know what your referring to. And yes it's suppose to be like that. These carbs have 0 adjustments on them. The slow speed idle circuit has fixed orifices or jets that are covered by a screw. Thanks again !
@joeevens13683 жыл бұрын
It may well be more than one cause, but that fuel pump is is waving red flags. It's talking to you. One red flag is the revving up and down. that indicates fuel going thru the diaphragm into the block. Confirmed by the tiny splatter of fuel pumping from hose while cranking. That hose should be gushing , not spitting. If you stop the fuel into the block problem, the low speed adjustment on the carb will likely be too lean. Opening that low speed needle a half turn or so should fix that hesitation.....Or not. Heh heh. Suspect air leak at old carb gasket as well.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD13 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks Joe. I get what your saying but, the tank wasn't connected when I was looking at the reeds and that splatter of fuel was what was left in the pump. Unfortunately these type carbs have 0 adjustments. Its basically sealed with a slow speed orifice/jet, no needle to adjust which makes me mad, but thats the way it is. Thanks again for the words of wisdom. Stay tuned !

I bet you that you’re having ring problems. Not sealing and allowing gas in combustion chamber as it’s detonating letting more gas to go around the rings when it should be filling the chamber on the down stroke. I don’t think it’s the reeds , it’s not acting like a bad reed by spitting up. It has to be in the combustion chamber in my opinion. I wonder if the ring gaps have moved and lined up causing a problem. Good luck buddy
@THISOLDOUTBOARD13 жыл бұрын
Hey Thanks man! I hope your wrong. Hahaha. At 170 psi x 2. It was 170/160 when I first got, but the bottom loosened up to match the top. I was hoping it would. I'm starting to lean towards the stator coil/drive coil/charge coil or whatever you want to call it. It's only gotten worse since day one. Typical hard starting, rough idle but still runs strong until it completely dies. Meanwhile I'll do the cheap stuff first! Hahaha. Thanks for the words of wisdom. Stay tuned !

Going back to basics the case is getting fuel from somewhere so I would think if the carburetors are fine then it has to be the fuel pump has a small hole in the diagram letting fuel into the case. I don’t remember if you’re engine had a fuel primer they can leak. But it seems like you have more than just one issue going on. Is there a way to do a leak down test on the block to see if the seals are bad? I know you can get a air chuck that fits a spark plug hole we used to use it to change valve seals without removing the heads.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD13 жыл бұрын
