Great video! I've caddied at Shinnecock for 18 years now, and I love replaying the shots they hit that day.

For a serious Phil fan like myself, these vids are fantastic. His losses are almost as epic as some of his wins. This one here in particular was extremely frustrating as Goosen made every putt he looked at on a day when nobody was making anything. Everyone talks about Phil's 3-putt on 17 but really Goosen won this Open by making a million putts. Phil played great.

Agreed on all points except 17’s the easiest hole on the back 9.

Memorable championship. I'll never forget Goosen's putting on that final day. Was it 10 one putts? incredible. Phil was unfortunate but he had to hit that green on 17. When he left the bunker shot above the hole par was always going to be tough.What a golf course - maybe the best US open venue.

I was there following Phil & Goose around the back 9 that day and I was also lucky enough to play this course a couple of weeks before that open. The course was playing ridiculously hard that day. Goosen's putting was mind boggling but he also hit a bunch of chips and pitches to set up those par putts that had such a degree of difficulty I can't begin to describe it. I'm actually shocked he hasn't won more majors because anyone who can play that well, under such difficult and pressure packed conditions, is clearly capable of winning more than he has. Yes, Phil doubled the relatively easy 17th hole (relative to how ridiculously hard the other 17 holes are), but it does Goosen an injustice to say Phil "blew it" because more than anything else, Goosen won it. Those greens were baked and bumpy and Phil's double there could've happened to anyone. This was not a gift wrapped win like Oglivie got at Winged Foot or Vandevelde gave away at Carnoustie. Goosen deserved this win as much or more than anyone who's ever won the US Open. (and I'm a big Phil fan). I'm also so glad the Open will be coming back to Shinnecock in 2018. The USGA did this fabulous course a huge injustice in '04 by letting it get way from them that Sunday. This is my favorite of all the open venues and truly the toughest test there is.

steve Nguyen Ah...my bad. come to NY for the '18 Open. I would be shocked of he didn't at least contend on the course where he got his most impressive win.

+TheJMSESQ Goose hasn't been the same since he blew the Open at Pinehurst and had some health issues too, occasionally he shoots 1 or 2 solid rounds but rarely puts 4 rounds together in an event

This US Open was memorable for Goosen's win. His putting was absolutely unreal. Phil Mickelson really played well. I think he said later that this was the best round of golf he has ever played in his life but could not break a par.

marcusdolby1 if he one putted there's no guarantee he would have parred 18. Goosen and Mickelson both shot 71 in the final round, but Goosen started two ahead of Mickelson.

Loïs Dadon clearly Goosen deserved to win he outplayed Mickelson all day and his putting performance was all-time great. But at the end it was right there for Phil to take and he gagged it

Another great upload. As long as you're going through Phil US Open heartbreak, I'd enjoy (hate?) some 2009 Bethpage highlights if you have the footage.

Luca Toni I do, unfortunately, the disc was scratched up badly, the sound from the original footage commentary was all screwed up, so I had to take it out. But the video should be up soon.

Goosen missed like 6 putts all day. If you start with a 2 stroke lead and make almost everything you win.

I watched this tournament and felt so very bad for Phil --> AGAIN... Goosen was pulling puts out of his ass that day and he knew it... but if you're going to win lady luck has to be on your side... as a side note Phil passed Arnold Palmer and now holds 2nd place with most runner up finishes in the majors

After Goosen’s 2 US open wins he kind of went the way of Curtis Strange and did not do much winning after those 2 wins.

Well Goosen was 35 when he won his second US Open and played well for the next handful of seasons before slowly declining so I think it was more of a case of him tailing off from his physical peak. Many golfers hit a peak for 3-4 seasons and play most of their best golf within that period. Jordan Spieth is another example.
@hutzman7664
@hutzman7664 3 жыл бұрын
DanielSong39 Spieth is an example of a shitty grip and lower body action catching up with him when the putts stopped falling.
