Well, 6 months later and my pump is leaking. :-D So I bought the reseal kit and followed the video. Problem is it still leaks. I had one o-ring left over, a size different than all those I removed. Could it be for the bolt holding the wire on the back cover? Is there an o-ring under that?

If any of you do this build, and discover the pump DOES NOT WORK, go back in and inspect the lower piston/valve assembly below the rotor. It is possible to install that retaining pin in the wrong hole below, mis-clocking the valve. The result is that the pump will act as if it is dead inside. I refer to the long metal pin; make sure that the valve body it retains into is clocked correctly same as removal, prior to re-assembly. The video does NOT point out the clocking methodology for any of the internal componentry here Additionally the immediate outer collar surrounding the rotor (i.e. the pump face ring) often has dot marks on them showing which direction they should be reinstalled in. In order to find all this out I had to take apart another pump and compare.

The right hole where the pin goes is slightly oval in the inner „ring“ and on the other „fixed“ backplate right? I couldn’t get the locating pin into the normal hole down there so I saw that the backplate that gets screwed on has a oval shaped hole so it has to be the same hole down in the pump? And do you know in what order the valve and spring goes in? I forgot to take a pic… first the valve and then the spring or first the spring and then the valve? I’m talking about the one under the big 10mm hex bolt

MrS. A common complaint is that the reseal kits are unavailable for the 2008 OB. Checked your Amazon link and it states that it doesn't fit 2008 Outback however, I just verified that by VIN, the entire pump replacement assembly for my 2008 from SOA is part #34430AG03B which is the same part number listed for the 2007. Same crossover part numbers when comparing Cardone website 2007 = 2008. Thoughts?

Thanks for the video. That should come in handy. BTW, I just picked up an '06 OB LL Bean Sedan with 155k miles that had blown the transmission cooler nipple out of the bottom of the radiator. I believe you said this was a fairly rare version. The seller sold it cheap assuming the transmission was toast. I bypassed the transmission cooler, added 6 quarts of Idemitsu HP, and cleared the codes (lots of them) from the TCU. The car seems to be shifting fine now, and has not thrown any more codes. Fingers crossed. Others have reported the same issue on the Outback forums, but it seems fairly rare. Should I go ahead and get a new Subaru radiator ($250), and just assume that this is a rare issue, and not a manufacturer defect? Or should I use an aftermarket radiator? Thanks.

Waiting for my kit to arrive. If you release the snap ring from the nose side first, would it allow you to drive the shaft down far enough that the splines on the "vane" side are pushed past far enough that the smooth part of the shaft (visible at 18:15) at the end allows the component with the vanes to fall out without resistance thereby reducing the chance of the vanes being dislodged? The video isn't that clear on which way the vanes go back if/when they fall out. Alternatively, can you cut a small washer out of plastic that would go over the shaft and keep the vanes in place while you jiggle it free from the shaft?

I got the pump back in the bracket!!! I did have to move the bushing back just a bit (1-2mm). I was able to get it to move by using a socket extension so that it would slide through the top hole (so thinner than the bolt). Once it was through the first hole I added an 11mm socket to the extension so that it sit on top of the bushing, but not go around it. Then I hit the top of the socket extension with a hammer really hard many times and eventually it moved just enough.

Is the kit still being sold? I looked around on the internet for a while and couldn't find any kits that weren't out of stock on any websites.

I'm wondering the same thing. I checked Gates kit and says will not fit 2009, but yes to 2006. Also seen power steering pump for 06-09 Legacy / 08-09 Outback. I just bought a 09 Outback a couple weeks ago, seems like the pump has a little leak, so I was pretty excited for this video and now I'm just confused as I can't see them being different. Did a little searching on forums and saw comments about no rebuild kit available for 08-09. In the amount of time I wasted wondering if I can rebuild mine, I could have had it half way rebuilt...if it fits 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps you can answer me this on my 2008 Forester - my check engine light comes on and cruise control light flashes when I've had the cruise control set for a while. Cruise control stops working till I reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the positive battery cable. Everything else seems fine otherwise. Why would that be?

Seems to be a common thing for early-late 2000s subarus. when the check engine light is on the cruise control wont work and the cruise light will flash. If you clear the codes itll work until the light comes back on. Get the issue fixed, clear the code, cruise will work just fine. Had this issue on my old 05 Impreza And saw it on my family members 08 outback

Cruise is disabled anytime a check engine light comes on in 2005+ Subarus. Scan the code. Repair the issue causing the check engine light. Reseting fixes nothing.
