This is one of the best sounding cars of all time, and knowing how much effort went into engineering it such as Yamaha’s piano department tuning the intake plenum like how they tune their pianos help place this car among the legends. Also, I feel like even the styling for this car instantly makes it a future classic. Just like the Furai this is so distinctly Japanese that it could scream “OHAIYO GOZAIMASU” when someone slams the horn and I wouldn’t even bat an eye.

It’s so funny how you jdm people hype this car up to something it’s not.. it’s stuck between mechanical and electronical. It got the worst of both worlds. This car would be amazing if it was build even 10 years earlier or at least somewhat decent if it was built 5 years later. The engine in this car is amazing, but the rest around it is a bunch of compromises that does not feel good.
@Nafeels Жыл бұрын
@@rolux4853 You got one part right. This car was developed a decade earlier and originally had aluminium panels. However, mid-development Toyota really said “fuck it” and rebuilt it with mostly carbon fibre. Just me and my fellow weebs talking about how brilliantly engineered this car was don’t do it justice. Seriously, read the full book about this car’s development.
@rolux4853 Жыл бұрын
@@Nafeels I work as a development engineer for a German car manufacturer, I know a bit the LFA and pretty much every other sportscar that was ever produced. But I am interested in reading the book since I enjoy a lot of books about specific car developments. The LFA engine would’ve been so nice in a 90s car with a manual 6 speed gearbox and pure mechanical double wishbone suspension or it would be also good in a more modern environment with something like the ZF 8speed or a specific dual clutch 7 speed together with modern adaptive suspension. Both these speculations would’ve made for an absolutely amazing cars, but they messed it up by using the worst technology. I’ve driven quite a few cars, also race cars on track and the LFA is a cruiser, but not a real sportscar. Which isn’t bad, it’s just not what people hype it up to! It’s a comfortable Grand Tourer, with an engine that’s not really fitting in that type of car, because tourers should have lots of torque and low end grunt.

You can really see the design influence the LFA had over later Lexus models that is still being carried on, very cool cars and one of the best sounding ever. The concept of there being channels for the engine sound to come into the cabin by Yamaha engineers is simple compared to speakers that pump the sound in but a much better solution.
@guitarbass95 Жыл бұрын
The Focus ST "Sound Symposer" was a similar concept, using a diaphragm on the intake and piping that sound into the cabin, with an electric shutoff to stop it from droning when you're putting around. People rip it out on the regular but its hilarious the similar concept is praised on the LFA.

Not made from scratch like that). And for the record the MK4 A80 Supra, the fourth generation, literally was crap in sales. 1LR-GUE V10: The creation of the V10 was lead by Lexus' chief engine designer Okamoto Takamitsu. The engine starts life at Toyota's Myochi plant. It is at this plant that the engine block is made from molted aluminium. The block is then sent to Toyota's Honsha factory. The same factory that used to be Toyota's F1 engine facility. The block will get milled, drilled and polished and emerges as a precise engine block. In a sealed room Takumi’s hone every sharp edge using precision polishing tools. After this a highly skilled Takumi pre-assembles the finished engine blocks to check if they fit precisely. Disassembled they travel as unit to Yamaha’s Iwata city plant. It is at this plant that 4 highly skilled Yamaha Takumi’s fully assemble V10. A process that takes 2,5 days for one engine. Before the engine gets put into an LFA, it undergoes a half day of exhaustive testing.

The LFA is Toyota's Infinity Repeating by Daft Punk. It was released well after its time, after what we were told was gone for ever came back, even for a brief moment. There will never be another Daft Punk. There will never be another MkIV supra or AE86. But we can still enjoy them and we can enjoy the new things they inspired. Sometimes the best way to experience nostalgia is through the present and not the past.

Fun fact about the seatbelt, it has a built in airbag. Also that infotainment system was in my dads 2012 lexus, and when you start/stop the car, it straightens the mousepad. Love little things like that

I always kind of thought the MX-5 filled a similar role of being fun for the sake of fun. I suppose they accounted their way into the interior buttons and whatnot, but still ... designed to be fun to drive and that's about it.

I think this was the best outro I’ve listened to from Regular Cars. Thank you for such beautiful words, and combining my 2 passions of cars and writing so beautifully. It genuinely gave me an emotional reaction like no other car related video. This is like if a Road & Track writer had a drink with Joey Coco Diaz and they cooked up a video together, it’s so beautiful It’s hard to not get sucked into the money machine, I’m a struggling mechanical engineering student working too much. I’m trying to find the balance between having time for school and to get out there and live, and money. Life is intoxicating, I enjoy my life now and wish I could do more of the things that make me enjoy my life again but it’s hard. Thank god the semester is almost over. But I’ll surely be taking summer classes if I (most likely) don’t get accepted to any internships. I’ll do my best to separate the pursuit of money from the pursuit of happiness. I already have the car that makes me enjoy driving as much an an LFA, so that helps a lot :)

JFC. You hit the jackpot with this one. We'll never ever hear a better sounding engine.

Unironically, this car has the greatest sounding engine of any street legal car ever made

The car equivalent of constantly delaying a video game so that when it eventually releases, it's perfect in every way.

Fantastic review RCR! I also love the fact that it’s obvious whoever owns this LFA drives and uses it regularly. LFAs should be regularly exercised and shared with the world! 👍🏼

what are you talking about. it has 9912 miles on the clock (9:07). i put more miles on a corolla after ten months of owning it. it's "used regularly" in the sense that it isn't kept in storage as an investment but it isn't *used* regularly.

It *is* a Toyota Celica made to the highest standards possible, where money is of absolutely no object. It is Toyota's gift to its customers for its success.

That weird seat belt buckle is because of the inflatable airbag belt. In a crash, the belt itself will deploy an airbag from within to aid in safety. Ford has been using these for 2nd row passengers in higher trim Explorers and F150s for a few years now

I love the fact that this car was made simply because they could and they wanted to. Building something when there are no rules, there are no targets, no accountants, not even a potential market they want to make it for. It was done simply because they could, they wanted to see what was possible when none of those rules exist. I first learned of this car when Jeremy Clarkson drove it on Top Gear. Even now he still maintains that its the best car ever made. Hearing RCR mimic that opinion is awesome.

The mouse thing, is the safest and most controlled piece of car technology ever made. I love it. I work driving cars from one point of my city to the other, and i mean every model and year it has been from corollas to ferraris. I always connect my phone to the cars and the lexus infotainment that uses this (but the actualized version of that changes the display and order of things) its wonderfull you can use it while you drive and not crash or trying to touch a horrible touch screen

Money sure can buy happiness but it doesn’t buy Joy. Subtle but crucial difference. Money doesn’t buy contentment either and without contentment which comes from gratitude, you’ll never have have enough money😂. Shout out to Akio Toyoda san for pushing for LFA to exist as well as the GR Supra and Yaris and Corolla.
