The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is possibly the best bang-for-your buck in exotic motoring today. Early examples like this 4.3L V8-powered "non-S" version are quite affordable even by normal standards, and offer an engaging, exotic, luxurious driving experience, affordable maintenance and repairs, and more than adequate performance.
Check it out on Wheelwell!

So Matt went from "Ill never ever sell my vette, ever. Its worth far more to me as a car than the $20k its actually worth" to "One of the reasons I sold my vette is because of the lack of a good bluetooth solution." Just thought Id point that one out...

Drove a 4.3 V8 Vantage for a week back in 2010 and they look and sound amazing. They're not the fastest things in the world but they're more than quick enough for the road. 0-60mph in 5 seconds, 0-100mph in 11.5 seconds and 0-125mph in 18 seconds was fast enough for me tbh. It's fast but manageable and enjoyable at low speeds whereas something like a 488 is just way too quick for British A Roads. I was a passenger in a 488 recently and the way it gained speed was slightly unpleasant. The V8 Vantage has really good steering, pretty decent ride, nice, direct gearchange and is generally a very pleasant place to be. With regards to the sound, stick a Bamford Rose exhaust on it and it's another level...like a Ferrari with a Larini or Kreissieg exhaust on it. If I had a spare £35k, I'd buy one immediately but unfortunately, I don't. :-(

This is not new actually, people quite early on realized they could bring me their cars and then use the video in a for sale ad. I don't mind in the least; it doesn't matter at all from my perspective, and if I know about it, it only gives me more incentive to be honest. Most people (not Grant) try to tiptoe around what they are doing though, as if I won't notice, which is very silly because these people all have the same behaviors.

I play this game with friends called "Spot the Aston" here in Southern California. Basically, any time we're on a drive over 30 minutes long in the area, we guess the number of Aston Martins we're gonna see on the road at the start. Whoever's furthest at the end of the journey pays for a light lunch or whatever, usually $15 or under (agreed upon when guessing, I tend to do a dollar for every Aston). You'd be surprised how many of these buggers there are out there. Record was 23 on a drive from La Jolla to San Clemente.

Go watch Doug DeMuro's video on people's reactions to his Aston Martin - it REALLY DOES fly under the radar. Most people are not petrol-heads, they think it's a ford fusion coupe or something.

i put a thermostat in my 2007 vantage (common failure on early ones). aston part was about 125 i bought the same part from napa that was labeled a ford truck part for 15. transmission oil replacement at aston dealership was quoted to me at 650. i did it for 60. new tires: aston wanted 1500. i bought them and had them mounted by a local shop for 400. the 2007 vantage does not have to be expensive to maintain if you do most of it yourself. it's just a car folks.

I had a 1972 Lamborghini Espada series 2 back in 1982 (daddy's car) while living in Rome (which I realize is way before most of the people who comment on this channel were born) and after destroying the clutch I found out through an experienced mechanic that it used the same clutch pack out of a Jaguar XJ12 and saved myself a considerable amount of money over the original part! Oh! and it also had the rear tail lights off of a Fiat 124 coupe if anyone here is old enough to remember how they looked....

Well said, It is called the Stealership for a reason. Anyone who turns wrenches themselves, knows a part number is a part number. Hitachi and Bosch are OEM parts, and ordering them yourself is much cheaper. To take it to the next the next level is utilizing lifetime warranties. My window motors, fuel pump, alternator, starter, radiator, brake pads and CAM Sensors all come with a lifetime warranty from O'Reilly's, which is better than OEM parts. Why? Because if these parts ever fail they are completely free to replace. OEM parts NEVER come with a lifetime warranty. And if you wondering the longevity of part store parts with lifetime warranties vs OEM. I tested an OEM window motor vs. a lifetime warranty window motor. The OEM window motor failed before the Oriley's window motor and that helped solidify my decisions with part store parts. I replaced everything at 10 years old even if it had not failed, that was 2 years ago. I would never take my car to a mechanic, let alone the stealership. Stealership's are the worst.

Motordyne G35 people who don't take their car to a dealer where there are trained techs that know your car inside and out are the same people who post online and on forums "please help I've screwed my car up worse!!"
@MotordyneG35
@MotordyneG35 7 жыл бұрын
No those people that screwed up are in the learning process and are looking at ways to move forward in their development of knowledge. Unlike, the people who pay every time through the nose and bitch about being ripped off, yet continue to take it to the stealership; that is the definition of insanity. Most people learn through mistakes, not by not even trying at all because they are afraid to make a mistake. If you are in your 30's or 40's and do not know how to turn a wrench, go back to the kitchen.

Yeah it does, real men buy cars with timing chains because of knowledge. Girls buy cars with belts and not chains because lack of knowledge. I would never buy a car with a timing belt.......bhahaha.
@Zchep3
@Zchep3 7 жыл бұрын
Motordyne G35 yeah that makes plenty of sense. Because a real car guy can dive into his motor and change a timing belt with no issues. Pussies buy timing chain motors so they don't have to learn how to do real work. Nice try though.

When you're buying Oxygen sensors (lambda probes), please make sure you search the net pretty well as you may end up only paying ~30$ for one instead of the usual hundreds of bucks. They are very common between car makes and often just a rebranded NGK part. For example, an OEM lambda for my car has three logos on it: BMW, Siemens - the OEM supplier and NGK - the actual manufacturer of the probe. Now, you can buy an NGK and be done with it or pay more for a "Siemens" one that has a different code than the "OEM" one or go straight to BMW and pay even more for the so called OEM Siemens. The only issue you need to keep in mind is that you may not always be able to find one with the correct plug for your car. However, changing the plug with your old one is a 5 minute job, so it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I've had my 2004 DB9 (with the 6 litre V12!) for 2 1/2 years and apart from one rear brake light blowing (£540 + tax from the dealer but only £200 for a pair on eBay!) I have had to do nothing other than fluids and pads in terms of maintenance. I have had some leather refurbishment done (it is over 14 years old, mind you) and done my own paint touch up! Basically not overly expensive at all! Just do as much as you can DIY and avoid buying parts from the dealer network. Plus I'm not wealthy - I've been medically retired with multiple sclerosis for 20 years and am a full time wheelchair user.

I really love astons, they just have very clean lines, clean overall design, and they make for a very comfortable ride when you aren't carving canyons, or when you're just cruising down the coast, but they make great noises and have fantastic handling, oh and Aston they also gave us a V12 coupe with a fucking manual, who wouldn't love that. V12's have been relegated to the ultra-high end luxury sedans and the expense, harsh riding supercars. That Aston V12 vantage S is an amazing car and it just has so much class to me, it's not like a screaming V12 like you'd see in an aventador or a pagani huayra, it has a very classy and clean GT car sound that you'd expect from an Aston, hopefully one day when I graduate high school in 2 months and then after college if I make the right decisions I'll be able to own one of those amazing cars. Wow could I have made any longer of a comment, just to say that I basically love Aston martin and what they're doing😂

just bought one and drove it across the country (5300 miles), no problems. 2007 with navigation delete, manual, dark gray, black interior, 19" wheels, 11,000 miles, never driven on a wet road, practically showroom perfect --> $49,000. worst part is the unreadability of everything on the dash due to glare and no help from the visors at all. drives like a man's car. heavy clutch, heavy steering, heavy shifter, stout suspension. EXTREMELY quick and sensitive steering. tall gearing, reverse gear even worse. gets lots of compliments if kept clean. i've never seen another on the road. people often have to ask what it is. i didn't think the attention getting thing mattered to me, but it gets it and i have to admit i'm liking it. instant respect from strangers of both sexes... it's confidence inspiring, but i'd still trade it for a full head of hair, although it may be next best thing. :)

Hello Matt I own a 2008 V8 Vantange in Titanium Silver 6 speed, great car I really do love it like you say it looks timeless even though its approaching 10 years old! Just a quick question, do you find the gas pedal sensitivity/response a bit dull? On my Aston the gas pedal response is abnormally dull compared to my 997 911 Carrera. The feedback between when I give it gas and the buildup for revs takes an awful amount of time. Just wondering if you noticed anything of that sorts when driving this specific Aston or maybe mine needs a tuning of some sort. It's gotten to the point where getting in gear from a complete stop is either choppy due to low rpms or I redline the engine cause I wasn't getting rpms and now after giving it gas the engine decided to go full crazy on me. I feel as though the gas pedal response is my issue or maybe this is all in my head haha. Anyways great vid and thanks for the reply!

Everyone I talk to mentions this and I definitely notice it on mine as well. It feels more like a super heavy fly wheel to me as "heel toe" maneuvers require a proper boot full of "heel" and even then your shift needs to be a bit slow to give time for the rev's to build up to where they need to be

The engine is very similar (actually is the same) to the Jaguar Supercharged 4.2 Litre engine I've seen supercharger kits, albeit not cheap, that can push you to over 500 WHP. For a car that is relatively affordable now and just a little lacking in power that may be a great option as a track/commuter toy.

Yeah, the VANTAGE V8 V600 option from 1999 is my dream car...6-speed manual with over 600 bhp.

I’m assuming you’d still have to diagnose and wrench yourself even if you do the parts shopping yourself...how do you figure out what’s wrong in the first place without the dealer/friendly mechanic?
