Thanks for the video. It help me a lot. The only things I want to add are the OEM part# for the cooler is 15767-31020, the 2 gaskets part# are 15785-31010, 11496-31010. Also the torque from my Lexus service manual for the stud (E8 socket) is 10 N*M (7 ft.*lb) and the bracket bolts (12mm socket) is 21 N*M (16 ft.*lb). Lexus should do a recall for this, but instead they did a service bulletin that only fix it free when it breaks and not telling every owner. It also expires in 10 year or 100,000 miles.
@tuyhoaphuyen34124 жыл бұрын
Oh, no...I tight the bracket nuts (12mm socket)at 22-23 ft. lb and I didn't use the torque rachet for the E8 socket. I not sure how tight the nuts but when I first lose it, it sounds like it breaks and makes my heart drop every time I lose them, but luckily none of them breaks ( I used WD40) to lose the rusty. Oh, well... It's over now and I am not going to look back for whatever.

@@bradjennings721 Corporate greed trying to cut corner but causes a lot of headaches for Lexus owners but lots of money for dealer to make. It also expires in 10 year or 100,000 miles." Wow! And dealer/mechanic would charge $1000 to do the replacement!

Just did my 2008 RX 350 after complete rupture of the original rubber losing 6 qts of oil within minutes. Person driving the car noticed loss of power, but no oil pressure warning light and drove the car for ~15 minutes without oil. The engine never overheated, which was key to saving it. Excellent video explaining the details and angles showing the work performed. Thank you!

Thanks for this video. It really helped me to install new oil cooler pipe and gaskets in my 2007 Toyota Sienna. I purchased the geniune Toyota parts and would not have known which way to face the gaskets (since there were no instructions) if it wasn't for your video. I needed to use a dab of Permatex black on 1 of the post nuts as there was a very small leak even after tightening down.
@ColoradoFishing2 жыл бұрын
Odd I used the toyota parts too and I have a leak on the driver side seal. mine leaks about 1 drip every minute. Did you remove it and put the permatex black all around both holes for the lines? It's very odd, I can't tell exactly where it's leaking because it's just running down to the bottom of the gasket, but a super slow leak.
@renaissancejames5 жыл бұрын
I just had to do this. (One of the hoses just sprung a leak and quickly decorated the underside of my Lexus with a nice coat of oil). This video was incredibly helpful, so thanks for posting it! My recommendation for others is that it is certainly more difficult than an oil change, but if one has a pretty good sense of mechanical know-how, it's definitely doable. Notably, having the right tools is paramount, especially Star sockets, which I had to buy. But as well, it needs various universals and socket extensions to reach the quite tricky places. Needless to say, it's also very messy since oil will have pooled in places. Also, bear in mind, it's not really possible to just replace the hose. Well, it "could" be done, and as I didn't know about the unit replacement, that was my first approach: just replace the rubber. However, that needs a hose clamp tensioner tool, and even that is very difficult to work in there. I couldn't find a suitable hose either, so I bought a larger one with a slight elbow and cut it, only to find out the OD was too big for the clamps. Again, it might be possible to replace that tube (and perhaps much cheaper if one has the clamp tool already). Yet if the Lexus recommendation is to replace the full unit, then that's the wisest approach for the long term. Who knows how long the other tube would have lasted. Unit part cost: $110 online. $100 at Monument Auto Parts.

When I tried to respond to you a week or so ago, my message wouldn't go through…….probably because I'm so new to that site. I don't know for sure. i won't write all I had written to you on that site. I just need to figure out if I want to keep my 2008 RX w/140k miles.I did find a decent mechanic. He found that the gasket wasn't on the oil pan. There was a screw and that's all. So oil was leaking there for sure. I have to admit I'm a bit anxious about keeping it due to what COULD go wrong. I've never experienced this with a car before. But you made me feel so much better and this video is superb.

Great video. Wished I saw this sooner because I also have a 2009 RX and this cheap rubber oil line recently blew on the highway on my way home from work late one night. Apparently from online forums, Lexus knew about this problem and easy fix years ago, and started using metal lines on newer models, instead of the cheap rubber. This metal line averages about $70 online. However, Lexus never told me about it even though I was previously in there for a radio issue. This event cost me hundreds of dollars even though Lexus reluctantly owned up to the repair and towed. Yet they never admitted any wrong doing. I had to get a rental to get to work because I didn't have the time to get to the dealership for a loaner and cost me a day of overtime to pick up the car afterwards. On top of all that, the engine is questionable now because it ran without oil for a bit and from a safety and life/death standpoint, I could've lost control of the car and was killed if the dry engine seized up at highway speed. I used to think Lexus took care of problems before it arises but I found this to be a deceptive business practice... to save money or embarrassment. My RX is having plenty of issues now that it's over 113k and the extended warranty has expired. The maintenance cost and premium cost are outweighing a new car payment and my confidence in Lexus has dwindled. I'll be in the market for a new car very soon and it won't be an overpriced Lexus. Toyota owners should be aware too. Same cheap rubber oil line in older Toyota models.

I’ve had a 2007 RX, and I’m still driving my 2010 RX. I remember getting the notice of the recall about the oil hose issue for the 2007 RX and they switched it to the metal hose on that one for free. Then I bought the 2010 RX and have been driving that for 10 1/2 years. All of a sudden last week, I discovered almost all of the oil had leaked out from my car. My mechanic diagnosed it as the oil hose being the culprit. I was shocked because they had the issue in the previous gen RX 2007 to 2009 model year and you would think that they would just start installing the metal hoses on any of the models after that! Well, apparently not. After calling Lexus about this, I was informed that an enhancement warranty would’ve gone out in the mail to me which I never got, and that the warranty had expired in July of last year, 2020. I was not a happy camper at all. Luckily there was no engine damage on my car. My car has 126,000 miles on it. My mechanic did a great job and it’s driving great so far!

Great Video. I did this repair on my 2010 RX350, and the video was really helpful. The flex extension made life a lot easier working in this tight space. I'd add: I didn't loosen or lower the passenger side bracket / wasn't necessary for me. I used a 1/4" drive 12MM deep socket for the tougher bolt (driver's side bottom), and also used the E8 star socket for a couple of the more stubburn posts / nuts. I'd recommend picking up a semi-deep 12mm socket for that tough to reach nut - I was barely able to get in there with the 1/4' drive deep socket and 1/2 and 3/8" deep sockets I couldn't get to fit in that tight space. All four posts / nuts were rusted on my car, and I picked up a can of penetrating oil, which I highly recommend to anyone who finds rust - last thing you want to do is round out your nuts or torque off the posts. I picked up the part at a Toyota dealership for around $75.

From my research on the Lexus forums, seems that this is a well known potential problem but Lexus only address it with a fix it if & when it breaks? Why wouldn't they include it in future MAJOR service for long time owners, say 100K or 200K (or similar for miles)???? I mean there is such a for a total engine failure, say if the Engine Light Warning was not functioning or burnt out; or someone on the freeway and doesn't notice it? Another thought, in industrial situations like large CAT generator engines, loss of oil pressure will shutdown the engine but cars don't do this? Amazing !!!

You dont need the special socket to take out the studs. You can screw on 2 nuts onto the stud and tighten them up on each other, locking them into place. Then try to loosen the first one, without touching the second one, and it will loosen the stud itself bc the 2 nuts are "lock" in place.
