How to fix replace change a thermostat housing, and both thermostats on a Jeep Patriot. This is also the same housing for Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger, Caliber, Journey, and Jeep Compass. 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15.

Watched your video before doing this and a few times during the exercise. It helped immensely and worked out great. So far no leaks. I put off replacing as the shop wanted shy of $500 p&l. It was not leaking much until recently. Sure saved me some bucks. Also removed the throttle housing, cleaned and re-installed as it caused some issues. May need to replace if it still needs it. Thanks for your videos. We have a Ministry monthly where we repair cars gratis that are owned by battered women in need so I hope to use more of your techniques. We have a nice shop with lifts and tools.

im no handy man and after seeing you mess with those few bolts i now know i better take it in rather then spend half a day getting pissed off and wanting to strangle someone haha my 2014 patriot can only run if heater is on full blast

Same motor. Same experience.. I can’t get the O ring on the back seal to stay put . Either it rolls back or I see most of it on the groves hoping we’re eyes and mirror can see it’s were it should be . Tighten add water dripping within a cup full . The seal replacement number is not as tight as the original you removed and as mine was hardened. As the leak originated. So the group replacement numbers of this seal must vary or must be used a OG presumably..

NOTE: The thermostat gasket that shows at 8:12 has its own mounting position on the thermostat itself. The way he mounted at 8:06 is not quite right (I know he did that way because of having the thermostat hole at 90 degrees at the very top thinking the air will bleed better). Just double check not moving the thermostat gasket from its original position (the thermostat hole in its right place with the gasket will be +- 135 degrees). Nice work @Rust Belt Auto

I have a 2014 Patriot and i changed 2 thermostats and the temp sensor i also flushed the radiator and engine and it still overheats but it doesnt have any check engine light also the temp guage fluctuates.......any advise on how to fix?

Make sure the fan is running, and do a block test to check for hydrocarbons in the coolant.

When you pull the housing off ... To the front of the motor is a bright orange plug, my mother's has been cut... Can you tell me what that is

I'm currently trying to attach a new housing, and for the life of me, I can't get the 3rd bolt (one closest to the front of the engine) to go in. Any tips/tricks. Did you notice an issue? I got the Dorman OE replacement housing, as well. THANK YOU!!

I had the same problem, mine was due to the new gasket on the thermostat. It will go. Just a twist and push

Anyway or oarts to bypass the thermostat. For me to remove it on these and run it cold. I dont want the thermostat in it being in texas and arizona traveking too hot to have a thermostat

Thermostats are used both to keep it at optimum temperature, and to keep it from overheating, by giving coolant in the radiator time to cool, by shutting off circulation.

Yeah but oem parts are over priced and especially with domestic they are inferior to aftermarket many times. So it's not best to buy oem.

What kind of silicon paste did you use there?

I guess it would be stupid to ask why the hell they don't have ONE thermostat between hose and radiator like back in the day? Right in front after raising the hood? I guess I'm old and ornery. But I'll tell you what... the stupid shit they do today makes me want to pull the hair outta my freaking skull... that, or buy an old car. But i love the video. I really do. That was a drain plug for the radiator. I put it back in.

@@RustBeltAuto I guess what I am really asking is if the square sensor looking box, the one you point with your finger @4:58 (to the left of the thermostat housing) could cause a coolant leak? I am not really sure what that square box is for. I am trying to determine if the coolant leak I have is from the thermo housing or the square part. I am sure it is the thermo housing but just want to make sure.

@RustBeltAuto Nice! Always wanted to visit there. Just an update... thanks to you and your video I was able to remedy my overheating situation. I bought the entire housing, WITH the 2 included thermostats. Put that bad boy on and the jeep is running strong again... for a minute. A couple more repairs and the entire vehicle will be new from all the replacement parts!! Yeeee Haaawwwww!!
