Boom. 10 minutes and a $25 part off Amazon, and I’m back up and running. Your instructions were spot on for my 2009 Elantra. Screwdriver, pliers and a 10mm socket. Easy as that. Just saved $300. Thanks!

I've changed the air filter, the cabin filter and two headlight bulbs. -and that's all. I'm a novice. I matched your video with my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2.7 liter and it was almost a perfect fit. It was so similar that I ended up doing the job myself with your video by my side and with great success!! For my particular Hyundai though, I actually should've removed the part that the air filter hose connected to... I don't know anything about this part and couldn't find any info on KZbin. So, I followed your video instead, and was able to work around and underneath this mystery part to get to the Purge Control Valve! There was great effort involved in getting around this mystery part. -but in spite of that, success prevailed! Although, I think now I will invest in the repair manual for this car. Your info saved me a great deal of money and without the mechanic-double-talk that always seems to jack up the price. Anyway, I remember feeling so proud that I had achieved this and needed to THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH for this info!! A really great job on your explainations and notes as well. :-)

Thanks SandhillDigger. Your video made it real easy to find and replace. Just to give a bit more detail for the other amateur mechanics: I found an offset (water pump) pliers made it easier to remove the hoses and clamps. The electric connection is removed by depressing the clip on the top of the connector and pull. There is a rubber "bushing" holding the valve in place, it is removed from the engine clip horizontally, placed onto the new Purge Control Valve and then slipped back onto the engine clip, with the valve.
@coboltnet8 жыл бұрын
+Mike G Good hints for the amateur. Thanks. I'll add my findings here: The hoses didn't come off easily after moving the clamps away but I ran a flathead screwdriver around the end of the top hose and then it slid right off. Once I slid the 'bushing/holder' that the PCV sits in off the bracket (slides right off, towards the back of the car) I was able to pull the whole thing out a bit and get to the bottom hose easily then I worked the screwdriver around that one too. I made sure to reclamp the bottom hose before re-seating the 'bushing/holder' since the top hose is very short. Overall I saved over $200 of dealer repair with a $40 part and some effort.

I just replaced the Purge Valve for a 2010 Elantra. The location of components are a tad bit different. I vlogged about the simplicity of the removal and installation as well. It was difficult to start the car after filling the tank. Replacing the purge valve fixed it. Thanks SandhillDigger!

Thank you, I was able to successfully replace my 2008 elantra. However the end part of your video was slightly misleading as the portion of actually unclipping the purge valve took me and another random man an hour to reach and unattach to the plugs. Definitely not as easy as you claimed. But thank you for this video!

It sits in a rubber holder which is attached via 1 screw above & behind the vavle. Once you detach the top hose & unscrew the holder, accessing the bottom hose is easy.

This is a bit more difficult to access than you let on. The first trick to know is that though it will resist, you can push the valve and the rubber bushing it is held by off of the metal mounting bracket and towards the rear of the engine compartment. Just spray the bushing and the metal bracket with WD40 & then physically work the bushing until it lets go of the bracket. After the valve and the bushing are free from the bracket, your options to access and remove the two hose clamps are greatly improved. The bushing must be reused on the new valve. If the bushing cracks, you may have to silicone it to the new valve and use zip ties to hold everything together at least until the silicone dries. One site suggests that only a Bosch or OEM valve should be used as the signal to open the valve is pulse width modulated and they found that many non-OEM valves won't open fast enough to keep the emissions failure light off.

How does the rubber isolator pull off the vavle body ? Do you have to pull the hoses off first?

How did your car behave that made you think that unit needed replacing? I have the 2010 with about 120,000 miles on it..Still getting about 35 MPG so this stumps me..
@Realstuffadventures8 жыл бұрын
For me it was not a matter of gas mileage, the symptom I had was when I would stop and fill up with gas the car was very hard to get started and the engine check light was on. Sometimes this could be from a worn gasket on the fuel cap.
@loureynolds8 жыл бұрын

I appreciate everyone's comments, etc. But I have a problem I have yet been able to solve on the 2008 Elanta. I have a very annoying rattle around the left rear area. I have replaced the shock, replaced the rear breaks, had two different mechanics to check it out, removed everything from the trunk and looked at everything possible in that area from inside and out. Also removed the back seat and inspected everything there, but still I have this RATTLE anyone know or have any other idea what it might be coming form. Even had the bushing checked on the suspension.
