130k miles and drives like new!
*Update - 3 years and 20k miles later (around 150k now - didn't put on a ton of miles due to Covid) and this car has given me zero problems! Drives amazing and seems like it's going to keep running for a long time!
*Update - 5 years and 40k miles later (around 170k now). Still zero issues. Just once a year oil changes with fully synthetic high mileage oil. My AC system has had a small leak for a few years. I now top it up myself with a $12 can of refrigerant once a year at the beginning of summer. If the leak gets worse I'll look into fixing it, but so far it's held steady for 3 or 4 summers.

Bought my 08 ex at 152k almost 3 years ago, put about 15k on it, runs great. Did basic maintenance and its runs extremely well and still looks great to me, the 8th gens are my favorite civic for looks. As you said the interiors are still sharp and were made very durable. The underside has extremely minimal rust. Honda really nailed these, hoping to run it up to at least 250k miles.

4+ years after I purchased mine and it has been great! I did need a new starter, but that's no big deal and expected as vehicles get older. I also put in new spark plugs and new front rotors and pads (my LX has rear drum brakes). Other than that, just oil changes. Runs great, great mileage, and it's actually kind of fun to drive (my other vehicle is a Toyota FJ, so a little car is a lot different). I think we'll both get 250k+!

Tab it has been a while, I hope life is good. I got my 2010 Honda Civic LX in 2014. It is exactly the same as your civic except mine is white and now it has hail dents in it :( Mine had 25,000 miles on it when I got it. I have 69,000 miles on it now and all I have had to do with mine was change the front brake pads and buy a new set of tires for it. It is a super reliable car. These stock stereo systems in these sound pretty decent. I am glad you like yours. I got mine about a month after I bought that T-rex 500 from you and just love the car. My better half passed away last year but we took a lot of trips in my 10 year old civic. Honda and Toyota sure do make dependable vehicles. Take care my friend.

Cory! So nice to hear from you! I hope all is well for you in these crazy times. Again, I am sorry for your loss. The Civic has been great. I have about 150k now and it's been super reliable. I did need a new starter, but hey, it's 12 years old (and, I start my car like 30 times a day doing UberEats). I went to a gas station and my car wouldn't start. I knew the battery was charged because I have a battery tester plugged into my cigarette lighter. I waited a few minutes and it started fine. This happened a couple more times and then I got a new starter. No issues since. I expect the engine and tranny to last 250k or more. I'm hoping 300+k.

I did replace the battery and tires and spark plugs when I first got it. About 170k miles now on it, and it's like new still. I expect it will last another 5 to 10 years with no major issues. I recommend using slightly thicker oil instead of the recommended 5W-25 on 06-11 8th gen civics, after 100,000 miles thicker oil helps the engine run better and squeeze wayyyyy more miles out of it makes for a healthier engine and smoother running engine and I do oils change every 3,000 miles I’m about to hit 170,000 miles on my 8th gen it’s 06 coupe LX 5 speed amazing car.

@@cjhiggi6018 I've been researching oils for this vehicle. My mechanic said many people have done this for years (using thicker oil in older vehicles, or, during hot summer months). But, he said he recommends just using a high quality synthetic of the manufacturer specs. I'm deciding if I want to stick with normal oil, or, one of the "high mileage" oils for cars over 75k (I have 135k). I have no leaks though, so, may not be worth using a high mileage oil (they have additives that help old rubber seals in the engine stay in good quality and expand slightly to help keep things sealed). Still thinking though. Do I go top of the line with Royal Purple, or, Redline; or, just some good synthetic brand like Mobile 1.

Agreed. Had mine for 4.5 years now. Not a single issue. All I've done is some normal wear and tear maintenance (tires, rotors & pads, spark plugs, battery). Great gas mileage (I get about 27 city with lots of stops, and 40 on the highway). Even does amazing in winter with proper tires (I put Blizzak tires on one winter and wow - of course this goes for any car, proper winter tires make a HUGE difference). Engine and transmission should last for hundreds of thousands of miles (I'm at 147k), and everything else on the vehicle is low cost and easy to repair or replace if needed.

Just goes to show that it's better to use what you have~ Now 13 year old car, and it's still running great :) I would know it's an older car, but if it's running like a new car, then you can't be mad at that. Just goes to show how far we've come in terms of making cars. Even a 2008 Honda Civic still runs like new, and that's awesome. I can imagine someone have a Honda Civic from the 90s and still running good today.
@earthling1984

Yup. I have this 2008, and a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Both are awesome! I've had cars with screens, and extra electronics, etc.. I don't care for any of that (just more to break over time). My phone does everything (or Echo Input I have in this Honda). No reason these vehicles cannot go 300K+. Had zero issues with either my Toyota or Honda (well, did need a new starter in the Honda; but, that was expected eventually and not expensive). Could I trade in and buy a new vehicle? Sure... But, why? My vehicles are paid off. The Civic would not trade in for much (maybe 2 or 3 thousand). Now, my FJ Cruiser is one of the highest trade in value vehicles there is. Still worth what I bought it for! So, I could trade in my 9 year old 80k mile FJ for a new vehicle. But, this FJ will last me another 15 years. No reason to trade in a vehicle that works perfect. Having zero monthly payments for the vehicles is nice too! Too many people keep car payments their whole life, because they get a new vehicle every few years and never pay them off, and, lose a ton on trade in value. I prefer not have have monthly bills when possible.

Looks almost identical to my 2011 Civic DX. Honda’s are awesome cars, it’ll run forever, literally. Back when I started driving, I had an 86 Accord with 250,000 on it when the transmission finally started to go (this was back in the late 90s). The only complaint I have about the Civic is that small little things break fast. The visors in mine don’t stay up, and I’ve gone through 2 drivers locks, and one passenger side (and it needs another). I don’t have power locks though, so it may be from overuse since Honda’s don’t allow you to lock the drivers side when the door is open, I’m assuming to prevent you from locking your keys in. Overall, it’s a great car though! Good choice!

+@@earthling1984 It all started when I got it back from the garage in March. Hit a rock on the highway coming back from my grandmother's place in February and busted the radiator and air conditioner pipe. When I got back (I was without it for nearly 2 weeks. Drove my dad and stepmom's car while it was at the garage), not even a week later, I had a transmission leak, heater blower motor went bad, starter went bad, sensor went bad causing the engine light to come on, clunking sound coming from the back (sway bar needed replaced), etc. It was so frustrating when it was happening. It's fixed now though. I decided I was getting rid of it because of that and also because I want a manual transmission vehicle. Civic is automatic and I like manuals better than automatics. My dad and stepmom actually used to have a newer Subaru WRX. I drove it sometimes. Great car. I also drive a lot so that's maybe why the car had a lot of problems. I drive way more than most people do (I've gone through a full tank of gas in one day in my car before).

Hey mate awesome video. I just bought this as my first car here in Australia. 2008 civic honda civic 5 speed manual with 180,000km. I also had a mechanic check it out and he said it was in good shape. Car runs really well and has most of the tires and 80-90% brakes left. Mine has a problem where the AC works amazing for 20 minutes then blows hot hair, so most likely a refrigerant problem or something. My driver's speaker is blown but that's really cheap to fix. Also it can be hard to get it into 2nd gear sometimes. Not sure if it's a slightly worn synchro or clutch. Reverse sometimes is hard to get in and gives a weird griding noise if it's not in gear fully. Other than that it runs amazing and the paint is in great shape. Still learning the manual but I'm practicing every night when not many cars on the road.

Late reply here. But yes, I absolutely LOVE the digital speedometer! Right in the perfect spot to always know your speed. I use cruise control very often, like all the time really. And it's really nice to easily see the speed for setting what I want. No tickets because I'm always cruising about 2mph over the limit. And same as you, when I switch to driving my FJ Cruiser, it pisses me off I have to look at a mechanical speedometer that is lower and down to the right in the dash.

So the higher trims at least have rear cup holders. Luckily I have no need for them. I like how mine is setup for my uses. Now, an Accord EX-L may be in my future. Those are nice. I test drove a few used ones while looking for a college car for my step daughter. We test drove a 2003 (admittedly amazingly maintained and kept up). It was so nice! Dealer wanted to much for it though (6k for a 16 year old car with 120k, no thanks). They wouldn't budge on price either. 1 owner, carfax was amazing. Was traded to a Jaguar dealer. We ended up getting her a Kia Forte Koup with 130k for 2.7k (3.5k out the door after taxes / registration / fees... then put almost 1k more in for new tires, rotors & pads, & spark plugs. Should be good now as long as engine and transmission hold up). They wanted 6k for the Kia, talked them down a lot; like half asking price. Brought to my mechanic before I bought it (and after to do the work and check it out more). He said all looks good, should last well past her college years.

@earthling1984
@earthling1984 3 жыл бұрын
Both are equally good. If you get an Accord, best to go with the 4 cylinder. This civic, and the 4 cylinder Accord have timing chains in the engine that never need changing. The V6 Accord engine has a timing belt, which is costly to replace, and, could break and total your engine at any time if not maintained properly.

I don't drive it unless I need the room, or unless bad weather (I have the cheapest tires the store sold new on my Civic, but, they've been on for 4 years now and still have 60% thread left). The difference in the FJ and the Civic is like half, or double. I get like 14 city with the FJ, 28 city with Civic. And 20 highway with FJ, 40 highway with Civic. I've had a lot of trucks and they have fun to drive being big and not worrying about curbs and parking spot cement things. Although the Civic isn't fast like a sport car, it's still very fun to drive.

I used an Amazon "Echo Input". Which is weird, I cannot find them on Amazon anymore. But, I got it for 10 bucks. It's basically an echo dot, without a speaker. Powers with just USB, and, has Bluetooth and AUX for audio out. I connected it to wifi by using my phones wifi hotspot. It works great! That being said, they also have an Amazon "Echo Auto". Sadly, it is a bit more cost at about $50 when not on sale (Wait for a sale, it changes often; and, Amazon Prime day should be soon). But, it doesn't need a wifi hotspot even. It just connects through bluetooth I believe, to your phone and gets its internet that way. Either one should work well. I am actually sad they seem to have stopped making the Echo Input. I have 2 of them, but, wish I had more now, for the price they were. Could use inside as well of course, with any speakers.

@@earthling1984 looking at one with 124k for $5k? Think it's worth it? Looks like it's in good condition.
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 3 жыл бұрын
@@rodinjoe For sure worth it As long as it is in good condition. Check the serial numbers on the doors, hood, trunk (they should all match; if different, replaced due to accident). Check oil and transmission fluid and make sure they look ok. ACCELERATE fast from 0 to 40 or 60 (depending on road). FLOOR it. Make sure the transmission isn't slipping or smelling. Take a long test drive. Then buy it! Also be sure to haggle with your salesman.

As long as it was in good condition when you got it, you should have MANY years to go! I've had mine 2 years. No issues (other than replace starter). It is fun to drive, safe, reliable, and overall just a great vehicle. As long as the engine and transmission last, everything else is easily fixable if anything does go wrong. And not too expensive since it is a Civic (one of most sold sedans and tons of parts out there new and used).

I test drove a manual ex coupe today - I have long legs and a short torso so the steering wheel obstructed my vision of the top dash display. Not so great haha Also, the car had a shot clutch and trans, had motor mounts that were so worn out the whole car vibrated at idle and when it revved the car was deafening loud with all the vibration. It had hail damage and was missing a sun visor and the interior was trashed. Still liked the car though lol

Jeez 6k for a 2008 civic and you said it’s a good deal? You’d get that for 2k here easily! But then again a cheap USA truck on your end would go for big money over here! Crazy!
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for being fairly inexpensive when new, they still sell for a lot when used. They wanted 8.5k for it at first! I said hell no. I also looked at a 2003 Accord with 120k miles. Lowest they would go is 5.5k... for a 16 year old car.

Earthling1984 wow that’s amazingly high! Did you look at the prices in buying private instead of from a dealership place?
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 4 жыл бұрын
@@cwuzii I did. From private seller could probably get for 1k less. Reason I went with this one is it had records of all services. New tires, brakes, and battery in last 2 years. Kept well, had all those "5k, 15k, 30k" etc. services done at dealer (which you shouldn't ever pay for, they are a rip off. But, fine if someone else paid ;p). So, I knew this one was kept up well with all its records. So far no issues in 1.5 months and 3.5k miles.

Great review.. thanks But Toyota Camry 2007 - 2009 is a no...horrible oil consumption and and engine pb that toyota can’t even fix
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't researched the exact years. I just know Toyotas are usually pretty reliable vehicles. My 2012 FJ only ever has had oil changes until 2020. I decided to put on a new set of brakes and pads because the originals are supposed to last up to 100k! Well, I had about 100k. I put on the new brakes, which work great and I'm glad I did. But, the mechanic told me the original rotors still had tons of miles left, barely warn; and, the pads still had 40% life left. Probably could have got 175k out of the originals, maybe more out of the rotors. But yeah, always research a car before buying. Go for a 2006 or 2010 Camry I guess. Thanks for the heads up!

So far I did need a new starter (maybe because I start my car like 40 times a day when doing deliveries). But, it wasn't too bad cost to fix. As long as engine and tranny keep going, everything else is worth fixing for sure!

Hi how you unlock the radio of honda civic lx 2008
@canny8228
@canny8228 3 жыл бұрын
In case you don't have this figured out yet, there is a code you need to get from the radio. Then you input the code and your car's VIN into the Honda website and they will email you the code to unlock. Just do a search for "honda civic unlock radio" and there will be videos to show you step by step.

@@M_AGraphics777 No problem! And yes, had it almost a year now. Put at least 15k miles on, maybe more so far. Only issue I had is I did have to replace the starter. But, that is normal on a 12 year old car, especially with me starting it like 30 times a day. Perfect vehicle, fun to drive, I really love it. I find myself driving it rather than my 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser. It is a fun little go cart lol. And, better gas mileage than my truck.
