thank you for your video. can tell all the work you put into it and it turned out so well. Its ashame that the manufacturerrs aren't required to do a better job on body and frame protection given the costs we pay for these vehicles.

Just spent 1900 to have my 2009 Chevy Silverado upper shock mounts replaced, new cross member replaced , new fuel tank bracket holders, rear shocks and rear differential cover installed, plus sanding and painting the frame, with 415 paint. From the cab back, another 2500 spent fixing quarter panels on both sides, bed mount track railings replaced, and or fixed, rust proofing, metal fabrication next to the passenger rear tail light, fixed dent in rear bumper and repainted the entire exterior of the bed, plus sanding and repainting rust on the bottom of the tail gate. Word of advice, wash it, after driving in snow, rust treat, paint it or just sell it. 4750 if you add in new shocks plus new differential cover and evap hose that sits on top of the gas tank. Auto body guy said he had 1000 in parts and 1500 labor. Both jobs were done by professionally done. Best advice sell the truck or trade it in if you don’t have the money for these repairs. This whole thing started because I 2anted to change the rear shocks and one was rusted off, sell, sell, sell, no more Chevy Silverado for this guy, one plus they do have comfy seats.

@@xavierbrown8795 I found mine on Ebay for my 2008 Sierra. They aren't very heavy duty though for what they cost. If I did it again I would just use pipe.

I found out just how bad the rust is in my 2008 LTZ 6.0 Vortec Max exactly the way you did. My rear driverside shock "broke" off with part of the round crossmember pipe coming with it. I already put a new motor and rebuilt tranny in this truck after 175,000 miles. I bought it used with 172,000. So I got way too much money into this truck to just dispose of it because of the frame. I'm a retired welder of 40 years off and on. When I bought this truck, the 1st thing I checked was the frame. It looked damn good compared to other used trucks from around the same year. I too use the POR paint to go over the frame "before" it got so rusty. BUT, I think I sealed in the rust and it rusted from inside out from there. I didn't do a very thorough job of removing all the surface rust before painting. So now I'm where you were at before you did that fantastic repair. I'm driving this thing until it falls apart. It has about 225,000 on it now. I wasn't planning on removing the bed, but you just changed my mind. Great video BTW!

Ive been a Chevy guy for a long time - but what they have done to the pickups from about 2000 or so is borderline criminal. The brake lines, fuel lines, the poor quality frames and body panels. they rot away to nothing. Im probably never going to buy another one.

What I couldn't help but notice was how much lighter the spring hanger material was on your "Newer" Silverado than my older one If I didn't know better I would say they were really stretching the design limits of what X amount of hanger should support . now that may work new but as metal age's it get's thinner and I'm just not real sure Chevy want's there to be anything left anyone can use when these trucks reach the limit of usable life . It's obvious they want nothing more than you buying another New truck ...But I do know the Car wash places that offer Chassis bath with rust neutralizer . I really think you should start using them like I started 20 yrs ago .. it really pay's off my young brother..

By the sound of your voice, you had a great time! How did you go about disconnecting the computer when welding on chassis. Getting ready for this project along with replacing cab corners and rockers, geez, what a mess this is going to be. Just a little info, when using a torch, the thinner the metal hold the torch tip at a 30° angle to almost flat, the thicker (1" plus) closer to 90°, and the sound when cutting through metal should sound like its ripping(slag removed), and speed of cut.. Great job! thanks for posting.

You might be surprised. I had a 1990 half ton that had rusted brake lines every few years, but still a rock solid frame after 25 years of Long Island road salt and saltwater boat launching. My 1998 Tahoe had a stout frame and rusted brake lines, too. My 2001 Tahoe in my driveway right now...I'm afraid to take it for inspection with some of the weird looking frame spots.

Holy fuck man.... I've always loved chevy's designs and engines, but the one thing that has kept me from switching to chevy is their wax coated frames. This truck is only 10 yrs old and looks like something from the bottom of the ocean. It's a shame they kept wax coating, even on the brand new 2019s..
