True dat. Was searching for one for a few months and gave up. People be like "here's my 1998 4Runner with 285,000 miles...$6,000 plz." I ended up buying a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 short bed regular cab from an old man. Only has 53,000 miles on it. The thing is, these 4Runners aren't selling. I see the same ones reposted over and over again on FB and CL and the sellers will not budge on price. Trucks in general are all insanely over-priced right now, no matter the brand. And if you're looking for a diesel, forget it--they all have over 250k on them.

@@pastagreyhound Seriously, those prices. -_- There was a truck parked in someone's yard near me, possibly old as time itself with the rust to prove it. Grill's long gone, one headlight housing missing, rear bumper is halfway on, and it sputters upon acceleration reaching 40mph in 3.5 minutes.

Mine was a third gen from '99, over 370,000km on it. Rust got it bad four years ago. I miss it dearly. But now I drive a '02 LS 430, so it's not going to die anytime soon with over 420,000 km on it.

I just bought a 05' 4runner with the v8. Its high milage and has some rust. but it runs like a dream! i paid 9k at the dealer, and 4k getting new headers installed. beyond that there really isnt anything that needs addressed. the engine bay is immaculate. new brakes all around. Ill never get rid of this thing until it literally blows up

Next do a Land Cruiser. It’s the only thing even 4Runner drivers fear.

First generation Honda Pilot is a lot like the 4Runner. It's built off a truck chassis, is boxy, has AWD, a V6, and has a following that uses them for offroading.

Woo, these things grew large over the last 30 years! I just want one that's still a manual from the early '90's.

i daily a 2016 4Runner SR5, it may not be a 4x4 but at least i have that trusty 3 row seating and box flares, it also has Cooper Discoverer A/T tires so it doesn’t get stuck on something as small as a puddle

Nice vid! Couple things though....the 2UZ is a V8. Was also available in 4Runners of that gen though. Also, the 4Runner is actually on the Prado chassis. It's very similar to the Taco chassis, but lacks leaf springs, along with a few other differences.

I had a 2002 QX4. Surprisingly good off road, and the VQ was very good for it's time. Worst thing? Horrible back seat room. But, very good off road. AWD, 2WD, 4HI, 4LO, Atessa transfer case, rear limited slip diff. Did well on WA state mud trails!

Having had the previous generation 4Runner, I think it is a great answer to all the opposite questions, that lead you to "Corolla" or "Civic".

if you're a do it yourselfer one solution to the truck seat syndrome is to replace the foam of the seat with foam from a recycled passenger seat they're usually not worn out and fit with minor modification Cheers

My mom got a 2001 Tacoma 4 door 2WD Prerunner here in Florida for $5,000. It did need some work, like ball joints, shocks, power steering, brakes, both rotors and pads. Basically rebuilt that part of her. But engine and transmission are great. And not a speck of rust. I can't remember how much money we put into fixing it up, but it's a good little truck. I'd love to have me one someday, but I haul heavy shit with my truck.

Don't you dare equate the 4Runner as a MOM'S SUV... That's the Highlander. The 4Runner is as masculine as Greco Roman Wrestling and the Pillar Men from Jojo without all associated homosexual subtext. The 4Runner flexes, and the world parts to make way for it.

I had a 2000 4runner, most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Only mechanical part that failed on it in 200,000 miles was the drive shaft u-joints. I bought it for 6000 dollars in 2009, sold it for 4500 dollars in late 2019. 1.5k depreciation in over 10 years. Not a bad run.

I worked at a body shop that did all the body work for a local Totota dealership, I remember every early/mid '00s Toyota truck rode like the springs were soft and the shocks stiff. They would slowly lean over...and then slowly straighten up again...
