Snow piles are kryptonite for most off-roaders. It’s already compact, and the heat from the tires melt it and smooth it into water covered ice. The tires melt or dig more of it away until the rest of the snow takes the weight off the wheels. Now you are screwed. That’s why you always go in with 2WD. If you get stuck, put it into 4WD and slowly back out. The front tires are cold and haven’t done any digging or melting, just settling.. so hopefully they can push you back.

This is a great review, everything you said is true...I can speak on behalf of most 4Runner owners, we bought because of its bulletproof reliability which translates resale but can’t say the same why a Jeep Wrangler holds up comparable resale value. I strongly believe 4Runner is so old school that most buyers believe “they don’t make them as good as they did back then”. The engine/transmission is essentially the same from 2003...Toyota had enough time to make it better every year.

@robertstone99883 жыл бұрын
@@Jack_Straw that sucks I had never seen one but just assumed that they did make one and that they were really rare. Oh well one more reason on my list of imaginary reasons why I don't have a forerunner. The real reason being they're just too damn expensive even the used ones. And it doesn't have to be real nice cuz I'm just going to take it out in the woods and abuse it. I work at a used car lot we had a older body style 4 runner with a v8 it was automatic but still I had never seen one before or since.
@CrossingRover3 жыл бұрын
@@robertstone9988 Indeed, they limited the 6 speed to the Tacoma for some strange reason. As much as I love the 4runner, I just can't justify the current used prices. When they cost over 4 times as much as a comparable Pathfinder, Xterra, XJ Cherokee, ZJ/WJ Grand Cherokee, or other 4 door off roader, I just fail to see the value.
@robertstone99883 жыл бұрын
@@CrossingRover I paid $800 for my 1987 Isuzu trooper 5 speed 10 years ago. I bought a used set of 33-in wranglers and some big Jurassic Park decals for the doors. The best part is is I'm the only guy on the trail who doesn't worry about scratches and dents. It's pretty advanced for an 87 it has multi-port fuel injection six lug Wheels four wheel disc brakes. I mean you can read a newspaper through it but a Toyota would have rusted the same way. There's really no stopping it I can count on one hand every time I've ever had to winch it out and that's saying something cuz I don't take it easy on it. I abused and use it and it just keeps on troopering. I can go out there right now and bump the key and it'll fire up.

The trd off-road is the sweet spot for the 4Runner. You can do an aftermarket lift tires and skid plates for less the the trd pro price, or if you want to drive it on the road it still feels good. Like an sr5. It has the mechanical 4x4 transfer case and all the electronics but retains the standard suspension, and offers the active suspension as an optional extra. Just purchased a 2021 in March and it now has 3500 miles on it. It’s a great road trip car for 4 adults to go skiing in with a roof rack.

Remember when Toyota did the same thing (but worse) with the 86, and nobody complained? Remember when GM rebadged cars for decades, and nobody complained? Remember when Nissan ditched the inline 6 in favor of a V6 in their GT-R? But nooo, if the Supra takes a good bit of parts from BMW because they work very well, it's a DISGRACE TO THE ORIGINAL (because the 3 generations before the MK4 didn't exist in their eyes) even though Yamaha helped Toyota with the MK4. And it's not like they just rebadged the Z4, because it's not a convertible and it's actually illegal in Germany. They only took a few bits that worked, and worked very well (if they tried to build their own engine, it would probably be very similar to the 🅱️58) and I'm happy they did it.

I’m on my 3rd 4Runner. Now 2020 TRD ORP. I’ve owned them, 2 GX, and a Tacoma TRD. I like the colors of the TRDP but no way I’m paying that premium. I also must have KDSS & that’s not in TRDP. I can wrap, lift, etc my TRD ORP for less than the TRDP. Why do I fall back to 4Runners? I can take them from GA to CA. Done it. I can take them from CA to GA ..well, that was a GX. I can take them on backwoods roads. I can take it to Hungry Valley, CA & do all that I want to do. I’m not into rock crawling. I have taken a Tacoma to places that made friends (girls asked to go off road) freak out and cry.. only to see how easy it was (and the Ram that someone abandoned stuck at the bottom). When I clean my Runner I’m referring to the inside. It looks weird crispy clean. The kicker… I bought this in July 2020 for about $44K & I can sell it for more than that today. Yes, I drove it for almost a year and it will cost me just the gas I put into it. It’s very likely my boring ass (who likes to be able to go anywhere and back) will move onto the 200 series Land Cruiser now that we can afford one. Many people don’t understand those either. It’s ok.

@@J.Gainez The way that the dust behaves in the footage proves that it was shot in a vacuum. It would be a greater engineering feat to build a vacuum chamber that was large enough to film the Apollo landings than to actually go to the Moon. As for why we haven’t returned, besides the aforementioned cost, there’s the matter of incentive. The Apollo program was a way for us to both develop missile technology and to show the Soviets we meant business. With the objective of the moon landing achieved and the Cold War thawing out, there was little incentive to return, especially with all of the economic issues that the 1970s brought. It’s no coincidence that NASA is considering going back now that China (a totalitarian regime with nuclear weapons and little respect for international borders) is flexing its muscles and talking about going to space.
