To quote him, "This is charity. I'm here for commerce." Friends don't meet your hero's. This one turned out to be a has been Zero, as Bob pointed out through out the night. Just an amazing night. Get to a CMX convention. Neil gets the most incredible people.

In actual fact, it was Stanley that discovered Van Halen and convinced Gene to go see them the following night. As always, Gene takes full credit...the fact is if you were a part of that scene (they weren't) you knew about VH. It was literally around the corner and worldwide domination soon followed. At which point, KISS was playing disco and making gum, toothpaste, toys and basically destroying any legacy they could have had.

Kiss albums all went platinum through 1990 had a big hit called Forever. Kiss lasted alot longer than most bands they just were not as big after the 70's hey day. But still longer than Matchbox 20 and the Goo goo dolls bands that were big in 90's and really died off. They are totally in nostalgia mode now but so is Aerosmith Stones and Paul McCartney. He does sound really silly here though I agree.

Every single word Lefsetz has said has come to fruition. It’s borderline frightening how much of what he said relates to success in today’s world. Gene loves to tout his business acumen and knowledge. But this debate proves that he really had no sense of how the landscape was going to change. Simmons Records would still exist if Gene walked away and realized Bob was on to something, and that he was telling him what the new business model needed to be. He should have taken the advice.

I am not a fanboy of gene Simmons. I will say in his defense that when you become very successful in life and are worth what he is, everyone wants to critique and criticize everything you do. Nothing is ever good enough. People love making villains out of super successful people to make themselves feel better and not inferior. Everyone loves trying to pull the ones down that are successful. Gene doesn't owe anyone an explanation for anything. He didn't have to do this and knows that. I had bo idea that this Lefsetz guy was even real. I thought this was one of Genes prank videos. I guess Bob really put Gene in his place. Gene felt so badly afterwards that he went back on tour and made another cool billion dollars while Bob wrote about it in his mothers basement.

@@shawna4309 I'm sure he is. Some of these celebrities have such huge egos. He's very proud of the fact that he didn't drink or do drugs. But he probably slept with half the women in the US. I think because he has an ethnic background (he might be an immigrant or at least first generation) he's very proud. But he's also very arrogant as well.

Bob had valid points but it doesn’t come off well because it’s clear he’s only making them because he has an axe to grind with KISS/Gene. As the expression goes: right for the wrong reasons.

I take it, Bob's point was to put Gene on the spot to see if Gene understood today's music industry? It also seemed that Bob was accusing Gene of "ripping people off" by signing them to his unnecessary record label. I have to say that Gene answered most of the questions accurately. Aside from the personal attacks on one another, I thought this was an interesting debate. I have got to hand it to Bob. He is outspoken, and intelligent enough to take on Gene, fearlessly. One thing I don't agree with is Gene stating that the smallest dog barks the loudest. It appeared to be a retort in response to Bob's audacious character. In this case, both dogs met their match.
