I have a 2007 Tiger 1050 that I bought in 2014 with 24K miles on it. It's been extremely reliable. I agree that the motor is fantastic. It sounds wonderful (I have the stock exhaust) and has lots of grunt down low. It gets really exciting above about 4K RPM so you can have a thrilling ride too. I have the stock seat and in my opinion, it's actually pretty uncomfortable. My biggest complaint with the seat is that it's slippery so I'm constantly sliding forward o it. Maybe they 2009 model is grippier. Overall, this is a really nice bike.

I agree about all of your points. Used to have one. I fitted a HID unit on the dip, and it was a floodlight, never needed main beam at all. Lowered the bike 25mm with dog bones and dropping the yokes. Modified the standard seat foam to round off the edges, and got an upholstery shop to refit the cover. £20. Rode mine all over Europe, it would happily cruise at 100mph all day. I am tempted to get another Tiger.

Since my previous comment I have crashed and written off my 2007 Tiger 1050 and replaced it with a 2011 model. I agree with all your comments but on the new bike don't have the problem with back brake pedal - weird. I found Suzuki Vstrom 1000/1050 hand guards bolted straight on - might be cheaper than KTM ones. I fitted a pair of NZ$13.00 chinese led lights from Temo that are according to my mates super bright. I just cannot think of another bike regardless of price I would replace it with.

Thanks for the review. I test rode a 2010 model today, lots of positives and bugger all negatives. The bike is a little top heavy, noticeable on a round about, probably something you just get used to? The bike has done 43,000 kms and has NO service history! The bike is in immaculate condition but with those kms on the clock would I be opening up to experiencing wear and tear issues? Probably. I am currently riding a 2008 vstrom 1000, the tiger 1050 feels better in most areas particularly brakes, suspension and handling and I am on the cusp of buying one! Feedback is appreciated, cheers.

I have a 2012 SE ABS last year in the U.S. Sweetest motor I have ever been on. Ton's of torque. Very linear power band. Any gear and you are going!!! It does have a Harley like gear box. A little clunky but if you try different oil you will feel a difference. Negatives. I am 6' and have the gel seat and I cant flat foot at a stop. Im on the balls of my feet. It is very top heavy. I have been riding for 30 years and I dropped mine twice. Walking slowly down a driveway and doing a u turn in gravel. Once you are moving it feels very nimble and light. Tons of fun. No big ass shaft like the BMW Go with chain. Windshield is horrible. Got a Madstad on mine wow what a difference. No wind noise or buffeting. I wish it had cruise but its not ride by wire so oh well. Im getting a KTM 1190 Adventure next Not a big twin fan but the 1190 has 150 hp so it makes up for the twin feel. But that triple is smoother than any Japanese in line 4. Great motor. Amazing in fact

I am really loving the Triumph, same year as yours. Couple of comments my previous bike a 650 Vstrom 'felt' more top heavy to push around the garage. The lights during the day my mates reckon are a bit weak but the previous owner fitted a couple of extra lights end of problem, I found the back brake pedal did not come easily to foot maybe just a case of getting used to it. Interestingly my grand-daughter said she felt 'safer' on the back of the Triumph though as someone else said a mountaineering exercise to get onto the back seat. Just a lovely bike but the windscreen could be improved for an all day ride.

I have a Tiger the same as yours and I have to say I hate the Arrow exhaust, I think it sounds so...add on. I bought a Daytona 955i with an after market can and got rid of it for a number of reasons, however my current standard Daytona 955i! sounds so much better. I appreciate after market exhausts may save weight but I've yet to hear one which sounds like it's at one with the bike. Wow! Stunning looking Tiger. How do you get it so clean? Must take you hours!
@TheMissendenFlyer10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stephen - I don't do anything unusual, I tend to only ride in dry conditions, if I do get caught out then I always rinse her off afterwards. I also make sure I use good quality cloths and cleaning kit....other than that it's just TLC and ACF50 ;0)

We have same "in condition" bikes. We clean them in 4 hours each and protect them with quality products.

back brake is positioned terrible, forever cleaning the bloody thing and it locks on a lot. love it though..
@TheMissendenFlyer10 жыл бұрын
Agree re positioning but never had mine lock-on! Sounds dangerous!!!

Zer0kbps never had mine lock - I'd have that looked at quick!
@Zer0kbps9 жыл бұрын
Steve SALF replaced the rubber seals on the slider pin, the ingress of dirt in the slider was the cause and the calliper couldn't retract, it's all good now ;) Thing is I rarely use the rear brake anyway, don't need it with a triple engine as rolling off produces sufficient engine braking for me and I'm not in to that drift shit.

They didnt fix the clunky gears in the next model.
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
+Eelko van der Well the on the one I rode they did! Hugely improved gearbox compared to my old 1050....
@eelkovander3567 жыл бұрын
I have the 2012 model and the gear shifting is quite rubbish, specially between 1 and 2 when the revs are up a bit.... and sometimes at the lights its impossible to shift to neutral. I am going to try a different oil viscosity to see if it helps. Still, great bike though. Love the way it looks and comfortable enough to do a trip across Australia without problems.
@maxxbenzz78426 жыл бұрын
My 2010 shifts like butter Almost all bikes do the Harley clunk from neutral to 1st. Big deal. Deal with it. 2-6 is one of the best shifting bikes I've ridden. My 2010 is a little slow off the line compared with my old 2012 1050. Not sure why. Same motor? I could wheelie no problem with my 12 but my 10 got to add a little clutch? Not sure why

@@TheMissendenFlyer THM, following my own logic, I should be dead to myself because I traded in my Tiger 1050 for the 1200 XRt. And to be honest, I wish I hadn't. The 1050 was an animal after I had tuned it, the 1200 while not a tractor like the BMW GS1200, it's a little sluggish. I haven't seen your video yet, but if we could buy the Tiger Sport here in the Colonies, I would do it tomorrow.
@holdencaulfied74923 жыл бұрын
If anyone reading this owns a Tiger 1050, here are the must do mods: airbox mod and tune, change the goofy bars to the Tiger Sport bars, lower the footpegs (if you're normal height, 6 foot plus), raise the seat with foam, double bubble windscreen, rebuild the forks, and new shock (stiffer spring at minimum). Damn I miss that bike, I'm thinking of picking one up cheap now that I know exactly how to mod it.

And yet you got a B M W ? ? ?
@TheMissendenFlyer10 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul - Yes, I loved my Tiger, the looks, the grunt, the sound of the triple engine made for a great bike. However the bike is basic compared to current new offerings. The electronics package, fancy suspension, bigger engine, riding modes and so on take the BMW into a different league (plus I was very lucky in that I was able to buy any new bike I wanted, and for my needs the BMW GS is my "dream money-no-object" bike).....

they are a great bike. I have two. Took one from UK to OZ other year. also have to mention the clocks and the button things are waste of time, too difficult to use unlike the new ones with buttons on the bars. If anyone fancies buying one .. I'd have no hesitation in saying go for it. No I have not been sponsored by Triumph ... yet! If you want to see one go across the world look here www.perthtoperth.com

Lights are garbage. Very top heavy, but it's a screamer. This bike goes like a raped ape. Yes tranny clunky, but u can pick one of these up with cases up to a 2012 for less than 5k bucks
