Nice man. I've got the 1 7/8ths plus off-road connectors into an x-pipe and some Dynomax bullet straight throughs. That coupled with a vararam intake and a really awesome tune. I plan to go with a GPI stage 3. Nice back fire! Sounds amazing and even better you did it yourself. Unfortunately I'm not taking on that task, I'll let my tuner do that, so I just lived vicariously through you! Haha.

Amazing what you can find on the internet. Here it is 4 years since you made this video and I'm about to put headers on my car and was researching this exact cam. I got a sct tuner from dyno Steve with lifetime remote tunes. He will do the cam as long as the lift is under .600. Hence why I was looking at this cam. I know you have sold the car and it's been years since this video but if you see this how was the drivability with this combo? gas mileage, etc. I plan on doing the boost version of this cam because I may or may not put an lsa supercharger on in the future.
@JeffLyle Жыл бұрын
Glad you found the video. The drivability was great. I had the manual transmission which helps a tune with drivability since I didnt have to deal with a torque converter. If you have an automatic, it is highly recommended you upgrade the TC with a higher stall as well. Here is a video of my driving review. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hl7cc4Koqdmpl80

Why did you leave the single rockers on while you were doing the springs?
@JeffLyle4 жыл бұрын
not sure exactly what you mean by "single rockers" but the factory rockers have been known to be perfectly fine for high boost engines producing over 1000HP. Some people choose to upgrade the trunions to a brass bushing style over the needle bearing factory style which is perfectly fine. But in my experience, unless the factory needle bearings have begun to fail (usually due to poor maintenance) then I just leave them alone.

@@CharmleysChopShop Ah yes... Now I remember. Great question John. For this cam swap, I am using a comp cams valve spring compressor tool. That tool is rounded on the base and is designed to sit in the rocker pedestal just like a rocker arm. To hold the pedestal in place, I like to keep one or two rocker arms attached to the pedestal while I move the spring compressor around. There are other spring compressor tools that are flat across the base and designed to bolt directly to the head without the pedestal as well.

How have the stock lifters been holding up?
@JeffLyle3 жыл бұрын
I ended up selling this car a while back so I am not 100% sure. I will tell you that I've done several other LS swaps in old muscle cars and I routinely use the original lifters in certain cases. I always inspect the cam when I pull it out. If there is the slightest sign of abnormal wear or pitting, I will pull the heads and replace the lifters and trays. The last swap I did was with a 200k mile LQ9. I was certain I would need to replace the lifters. But when I pulled the cam and the lifters they both looked great. I ended up swapping the cam to a stage 1 truck cam and I replaced the trays, but it still has the stock lifters and is running great. Moral of the story... if you are doing a cam only and want to leave the heads on, inspect the old cam carefully. If there is wear or pitting on the cam lobes, you may be living on borrowed time with worn out lifters too.
@tommy_2ss3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffLyle Thank you. Been planning on doing a cam swap and trying to put a list of parts together. Just about got everything but I’ve had people tell me stock lifters are fine, and others tell me the opposite.

@@tommy_2ss Good luck with the cam swap Tommy. No one can tell you for sure if the lifters are good or bad, but the best evidence without taking the heads off is how the lobes of the cam look. @@hughmungus9831 How much are they quoting you and what all are they doing? A typical install of headers that is pure bolt on with no issues can take about 4 hours and I think TS is about $125 per hour. Plus you have to factor in tuning which will take 2 HP Tuner credits ($100) and about an hour on the dyno. A complete retune will cost about $700 at TS and a simple O2 sensor delete or retune if you have aftermarket cats would be about $200. So I am guessing they are quoting $1200 install and tune minimum.

@@hughmungus9831 There is always a risk that things won't fit perfect... I'd say probably 10-20% of the time. Plus with the risk of broken exhaust bolt extraction, I'd hate to commit to helping you and then opening a can of worms that you aren't willing or able to take care of. For example, if an exhaust bolt is broken on cylinder 7 or 8 which is very common, the only way I can get it out is to pull the head of the car and get the welder out.
