The fights would probably be a lot less karate like if punches were allowed to the head because everyone would just be trying to knock each other out. I think it’s cool because they are still allowed to kick each other in the head so they have to be more creative with their striking if they want a knockout, and more entertaining. Just my opinion

It is not only to protect their hands. Gloves are the only way to allow punches to the face with acceptable injuries, and acceptable injuries are the requisite to approve professional tournaments, and all the industries around them. Remember that long time ago, boxing was bare knucle, and gloves were implemented when they decided to create an industry that complies with social standards. On the other hand, in karate there is still the idea that tournaments are just part of the training.

Uh. No gloves. Have you ever had someone's tooth cut your hand? I cracked my brother in the mouth with a hook before I took karate and on my right hand between my pinky and ring finger. The next morning my hand was the size of a grapefruit. It was so disgusting getting it squeezed, all that puss and bile being pumped out. I had the choice of hospital or spend a week in a mold and had to keep my arm in a constant elevated position.
@JaybayJay

@John Smith I agree. The keyboard warriors know nothing. There's a huge difference between competition and a real fight. They only see body punches and some kicks. They don't see the development, the conditioning to take those punches, years after years of training. The skill to throw those kicks and the skill to defend against them. Kocic did a great job of demonstrating how simply moving a little can avoid a huge kick to the face. Even if it is only a half inch step.

Nice fight, so sad to see all those keyboard warriors and their ignorant comments. Karate is supposed to be a balanced art, you can compete and still have a life. Professional boxers are trading their health for success, that's why they can barely string together a sentence when they're older. And nobody says "that's not a real fight, take the gloves off!". I'm not knocking boxing btw. we do both kyokushin and boxing in my gym.

In my opinion the one who hilarious is shotokan karate, cuz its not effective in real battle, the kyokushin one is effective, the kick&punch maybe not look so hard, but it is actually some brutal move I remember watching some random (common guy) chalengging kyokushin fighter, the random guy just keep throwing punches and kick but never landed in kyokushin guy, and when kyokushin guy just kick the random guy once, the random guy just completely losing his ability to stand So yeah, their kick not look brutal cuz their opponent is a trained to receive a heavy kick Fun fact : kyokushin is different from shotokan, their body is extremely trained to receive some heavy punch or kick, thats why you just seiing a hillarious punch that have no damage to both participant

Muay Thai has the same footwork. If anything the top Muay Thai athletes are just people who studied boxing and kick really hard the shins. (With some few throws.) If anything, pure Muay Thai shouldn't even have any pro boxing skill. They forbid punches to the head ONLY in tournaments. They practice head punches in the curriculum.

There are no punch head shots because long term, it does to much damage. Whats the point in living your life to be a cabbage at the end of it when theres no need. They are allowed kicks to the head because maybe 2-3 are executed per height which would be nothing compared to the amount of head punches if they were allowed. Bret, headgear does nothing to prevent concussions. People get KO'd with headgear all the time. There's no "used to absorbing headshots", there's just good defense, biting down hard on your mouthguard and keeping your chin down. You don't get better at taking headshots by getting punched to the head.

If their not wearing gloves and they know what their doing they'll still only strike to the head sparingly. Hit hard bone with an ungloved hand full force you'll shatter your hand. Kickboxing uses kicking, punching, elbow and knee strikes, throws, locks, & grappling. Work on this, okay; kickboxing is considered a 'sports' event and is not a major martial art. do you even know the definition of full contact? Watch kudo, shinken shobu kyokushin, it's this but with gloves and head strikes. Kyokushin prioritizes the toughness of the fighter, and they do teach all the things you expect from karate, head punches, blocks, dodging, footwork, I know this because I do practice Kyokushin. There are too much that can happen if you allow head punches, bare knuckles, extremely high chance of injuries, for both the puncher and the "patient", if you look at bare knuckles mma and boxing, there is at least some sort of wrappings to protect the hands. Of course, tournament karate, no matter the styles is always somewhat handicapped, wkf shotokan also suffers from tournament rules. What I would love to see is less full contact gut punching kyokushin and a lot more of shinken shobu kyokushin, even with gloves because kyokushin karateka would pay more attention to punching in the head, defending against them and develop faster reflex

@shoulung
@shoulung 8 жыл бұрын
verbotenco clearly my point went over your head. BJJ is about building "gentle" skills. Muay Thai is about the science of "eight limbs" Kyokushin is the supreme ultimate truth. the truth of kyokushin is found in osu. Kyokushin isn't necessarily about fighting. its about spirit, its about will power. their sport doesn't test ones ability to do damage upon an opponent, it tests ones willingness to withstand grueling punishment, intense pain, and the utmost pressure, and still move forward, never backing down, never giving up. when people say why Kyokushin is bad because it doesn't allow hand strikes to the face, they are completely missing the point of Kyokushin. to say that BJJ is missing something by not having strikes goes against the spirit of BJJ. and same for grappling in Muay Thai. I realized that, thats why I was bringing it up. Kyokushin isn't broken because they don't allow hand strikes to the face, just as BJJ isn't broken because it doesn't allow strikes, or Muay Thai with grappling.

Matt Mosley martial arts are on of the worst ways to prepare for a real fight, it gives people a false representation of what to expect, as i said in a real fight they would charge each other. Its the same story when they show you how to disarm a someone with a knife. They train you to take a knife out a hand that A) strikes with the attacking hand positioned forward B) an opponent who uses one arm and forgets the other C) an opponent who strikes then doesn't strike again, just throws his knife out and leaves it there for you. D) and opponent who stands still, ect Go look it up and come back when you know what your talking about, there are videos online of "professionals" trying to defend against a fake knife and none of them manage, none of them, the best i saw I guy do was get stabbed six times, and in a knife fight once you get stabbed once its over, you'd lose concentration and panic, because at martial arts class they don't train you in that, i.e the important stuff. And on another note saying "come back when you know what your talking about" isn't an argument. So come back when you have an argument, which i don't think will be anytime soon.

Matt Mosley "I'm an instructor", thats where I turned off. If you really are an instructor then your going to believe what your doing is beneficial regardless of facts. even though the only things you get out of martial arts is fitness and money.

Yes but if you are trained well you'll know how to deal with a drunk charging at you...

Oscar Reece Yeah, if you were trained well you would, thats my point, this type of sparing isn't training for that, along with most of the martial arts out there. They train you for unrealistic situations, with opponents that will stop once they've hit you. How many people come out of martial arts knowing how to take a punch? Barely anyone. It leads people into a false sense of security and makes them believe that they can handle a fight when in reality they cant. Its that kind of bullshit that makes people think they can disarm a knife attack, when in reality they end up dead because they don't realise that a knife doesn't fly at you, remain in mid air for several seconds so you can use your little disarm technique, all the while the attacker remains still. No, a real knife fight is terrifying, they slash and stab several times a second. If you really are a martial arts instructor I would ask you to do this, give your friend a pen and tell him to try and stab you with it. Tell him to go all out like he wants to kill you, none of that swinging arm rubbish, have him charge you with one hand and try to stab you as many times as he can and you see what happens.
