The video is really well made and you can do the work by yourself. I had the same codes and was reading and researching before opening the gearbox. Because of your video i was pretty sure my panamera had this problem with the sensors. Replaced the sensors, oil and filter and the pdk was good to go. No coding either which was cool. Thank you for the detail video, keep it going man 👍🏻

This video is very interesting. Clearly you have a great deal of knowledge. I think the PDK gearbox is impressive - but there is a big problem, that you have identified - parts. As these cars get older, there are more failures, and it seems like Porsche does not repair, they just replace the entire gearbox - at a cost of $20,000! I hope you do more videos on PDK. Thanks for this one

Hello Thompson, I really enjoyed your video! I’m in the process of changing the sensors too since the car suddenly won’t go forward or reverse. With the codes P1731 P1732 showing up and won’t go away when resetting. My question is after installing everything and closing it up, do I need a system recalibration meaning a transmission reprogramming with a computer? Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

Well, I just to replace the AWD pressure sensor number 3 and cleared the code on my Porsche panamera PDK transmission. 3 hours, a total waste of time. Hi excellent video. I own a repair we 2011 Panamera from another dealership with 89 k miles. I am getting p1731 and p1732. This vehicle won’t move in reverse or drive. Codes won’t clear when you put it drive message comes up to put it back in park. Does it sound like the shift rod is stuck in neutral. In other words. Changing shift rod might work? I going to pop the pan tomorrow to see if pan is clean. Also was going to check the wire from TCM to the connector. Thanks in advance. Haider

3 questions: I have a 7 speed Porsche Panamera Turbo that has a P0871 pressure sensor number 3 (HOK) fault. 1) Is that the AWD Pressure sensor? And 2) Can the AWD pressure sensor be replaced without removing the valve body? 3) Since that distance sensor you replaced is easily accessible from the PDK oil pan, why did you remove the entire transmission just to replace it? I wish I had a tutorial video of you removing that PDK transmission. There's a lot of useful knowledge in that alone. Thanks for the great, informative and very helpful video. I subscribed immediately when I seen this video.

2) It probably can. 3) The engine coolant manifold between the two cylinder head heater hose connection was leaking and the manifold was replaced while the transmission was out.

@@ThompsonAutoTest thank you so much for the quick reply. I'm about to change out that AWD pressure sensor when it arrives in the mail. and since I don't have to remove the valve body, I wont be required to recalibrate the transmission or use PIWIS oil fill mode. I believe all I will have to do is remove the oil pan (a simple drain and fill) replacing the AWD pressure sensor in the process. Update: Well I just to replace the AWD pressure sensor number 3 and cleared the code. 3 hours, a total waste of time. Car still runs, drives and shifts fine but it wont allow sports mode and the same P0971, 002085 and 00208A codes popped right back up. I dont know what to do at this point. There is a specific set of false code that indicates the problem with the shift fork position sensor. New from Porsche that position sensor assembly is quite expensive. Make sure that is what’s wrong with PDK transmission.

I have a question before I purchase about a valve body for sale on Ebay. A dismantler is trying to sell me a valve body taken from a Porsche Panamera Turbo 970 that he claim is in 100% perfect working condition. He claimed he tested it both inside and outside the transmission. Is it even possible for a dismantler to test a valve body without any bolts in it after it is removed from the PDK Transmission? Every T27 and T40 bolt is missing. How do you test it in that condition with no bolts in it while on the bench? Or is he selling snake oil? I also asked him why did he remove the smaller T27 bolts that holds the part together, he said "To clean it." But he never even put the bolts back in it. Does that ruin the valve body?
@svennomore729
@svennomore729 2 жыл бұрын
Unless you are standing there while they test the hydraulics, you wouldn't know if the test was actually done. They can tell you anything they want just to sell you the valve body. Personally I don't think a dismantler will remove the valve body and sell it on the side, that means they cannot sell the whole transmission to anyone. Unless that tranny is trashed to begin with, like a cracked case. I will not buy a valve body if it is missing the bolts. And if I don't have a way to pressure test it to make sure the hydraulics are ok before I installed it
@hellbent7062
@hellbent7062 2 жыл бұрын
@@svennomore729 Thanks. You were right. The valve body turned out to be junk and the person selling it was a liar and a crook. I returned it but he tried to keep half the money. I had to get Ebay involved to get all my money back. I ended up just replacing the entire PDK transmission for $19k.

@@hellbent7062 That is a lot to spend on a new transmission. curious... Why did you choose that route, instead of just changing the sensor wiring harness? Thanks in advance. I just spent $4,500 changing out the sensor .
@hellbent7062
@hellbent7062 2 жыл бұрын
@@ipsrentalproperties @Matt DeLao Well, thats a long story but the rule is don't ever buy a car (especially a Porsche) if you're either unwilling or cant afford to fix it. I agreed to this before I purchased the car. So, know what you're getting into. I am prepared to fix anything that breaks until I decide to sell it. Plus I love my Porsche. But to answer your question: You're right, 19k is a lot to pay for a transmission but anyone who owns a Porsche Panamera knows that's what they cost brand new and installed. I did see some used ones on Ebay for as low as 3k but no one can be trusted on Ebay for stuff like that anymore. They will lie and say it's in great condition and you wont find out its junk until after you install it nearly a month after you purchased it. Now you have to pay to remove it a second time and still go buy a new one. Sometimes trying to save money can end up costing you more in the end. I wasn't willing to take that risk. The final decision was made after I got 2 seperate independent diagnoses from two different places 120 miles apart. The first opinion was a bunch of I don't knows and maybes. They even said it may be my 4WD system that needs to be replaced for 6k and if that dont fix it then maybe it's the valve body then if that don't fix it then it must be the transmission. Thats over 30k worth of maybes. The second opinion said it was definitely the transmission with 100% certainty. But before I got there I had already replaced the pressure sensor myself. There are 3 pressure sensors. I did change out the the one that the PIWIS Tester identified as the problem (the 4WD pressure sensor) but it didn't work. The other 2 pressure sensor couldn't be removed without first removing the valve body. However, the valve body can't be removed without having to recalibrate the transmission and replace the fluid. That's nearly 2k. This brings up the 3rd issue. What if, the valve body itself was bad? Thats 5k. You don't want to replace all the pressure sensors, wiring harness and the valve body for 6k hoping it fixes the problem then find out you still got to replace the transmission for 20k because the clutches got worn out and you didn't know it until until you replaced all that other stuff. Then I did the math. I didn't want to take that risk and end up paying nearly 27k trying to keep from paying 20k. Not to mention the 4th issue the fact that the transmission had been having issues before that got fixed months earlier. This is likely due to the fact that I forgot to replace the PDK fluid at the 60k mile mark. That's a death sentence. I will change it at 40k miles from now on. But I didn't change it until 80k miles but it may have been too late. 6 months after I changed the PDK fluid the transmission started to lose 1st and 2nd gear and had to be babied until it got into 3rd gear where it drove fine. Then 4WD clutch started slipping when making hard turns. Then the car would build up so much pressure that it had to be put in neutral at red lights or when idling. Then the car would lurch forward whenever you turn off the ignition. All this got fixed with a PDK re-learn and clutch adjustment but that only lasted a few months then it came back worst. This means my clutch may have gotten worn and lost half its life. Now the transmission is not worth fixing if the clutches goes out in 6 months and still have to replace it. This was way too many unknowns to risk repairing a PDK transmission using the process of elimination. The PIWIS Tester was showing codes that didn't make sense even to the experts. Now I have a brand new transmission with new clutches new everything with zero miles on it good for another 100 to 200k miles. Also, I did think about selling it for half its value before I replace the PDK and just buy another Porsche Panamera Turbo but I decided against it because that car could have issues too. So, I decided to just make this one newer. At least I was able to get a 1k discount and a 2 year warranty and I don't have to sell it for half its value.

@@hellbent7062 Thank you for a well said response. very informative. It's crazy with all of the tech we have, when a light comes on in the car, no one is sure what is wrong.
