RPMS sway when this happens roughly a hundred RPM or so like it’s having trouble searching for gear. Bouncing back and fourth between 2 gears. Problem lessens with more speed and throttle. Problem completely gone when in low gear override. Would transmission flush help this issue. Also gonna do PTU. Anything you suggest to check, much appreciated

It's not. I check and fill mine without doing any of that. Might be a squeeze for some (I'm an average sized female) but my hand and arm fit right down in there no problem. Can be a little tricky to twist the dipstick without much wiggle room if it's been a while & has buildup, but otherwise, I think all those steps are pretty unnecessary. Personally, I'd probably CAUSE damage somehow in the process of removing and reinstalling all of that! 😂

The 6F55 holds 11.6 Quarts....changing out 5 quarts just dilutes the new and old fluid 50/50... ... Its much easier and thorough to just disconnect the cooler lines...... put the send to a collection bucket and then put the return into a small bucket of new trans fluid.... turn the engine on and the transmission will push out the old and suck in the new fluid...keep on eye on the buckets and stop the engine and change out the fluids a few times...
@richierock13004 жыл бұрын
It's very messy doing what you're saying to do. It's time consuming when you can just drain 4 quarts at a time on your oil change intervals, without totally washing the fiber off your plates.

What’s with ford? I too drained out 4 qts, then added 4-3/4 of a qt. I checked according to mfg specs., warm up to full temp, shift through the gears after you stop, waiting 10 seconds between shifts. Then check while running and screw dipstick down all the way before pulling it out. I read this method from my owners manual exactly. It just barely showed at the very bottom tip of the dipstick below add. Then I drained 4 qts., Then I ended up adding 4-3/4 qts. After adding 4, then taking it for another test drive showing the same result as where ford filled it, just touching the bottom of the dipstick. Any less would not even show. Wow, seems the factory would be perfect

He is trying to show how badly designed the transmission is. Even more critical these days to change fluid more often. Ford is banking on most owners following the normal maintenance schedule...150K miles and the old fluid burning up the transmission before 150K but AFTER the warranty runs out. Cash cow for dealers who don’t know about KZbin and somewhat beating dealers at their own game.
@whpony966 жыл бұрын
If you drained 4 and added 5 you got a seal leak in the PTU and that's where your transmission fluid is going..

Must have been low. A cop car getting beat to shit for 100,000 miles makes sense. Either way, just use the dipstick method and you can’t go wrong. I wish he would’ve checked it before he changed it just to see where it would be on the dipstick

By draining the the fluid the amount will vary by the amount of time you let it drain like if you drain it for 15 minutes it might drain 4.5 qts compared to if you drain overnight it might drain 6 qts because as vehicle sits everything drains down even the torque converter will drain down a little so use your dipstick
