Did the solution work after? I have the same problem I wasn’t sure if it was the starter or shift gear

The solution was changing the shifter... clean the connection too...it gets sticky from coffee and soda dripping from the cup holders

So all you did was change the shifter you didn’t have to reprogram anything?

Try cleaning the connector first, that's what damage the shifter Get some old toothbrush and clean the contacts before changing it...you may save the money of the shifter.
