Baja Dreaming - KTM designed in two accessory power sources, ACC1 and ACC2, that are accessible under the headlamp. I go ahead and attach a USB charger to one of them in this video. Since the connections are protected by 10 amp fuses, these can be used for heated grips as well as phone chargers and GPS navigation systems. I'll be using one for my Deacon-cam so I do not have to worry about changing batteries in the middle of a long ride. I install a Lighting Fast 12V SAE to 5V USB charger on the switched circuit ACC2.

Great tips on the accessory ports. It will make a cleaner install for my 2017 Enduro R that I just purchased yesterday. Many thanks!

I completed it as described. Still tested the wires with an voltmeter and the colors were as suggested in the video. I’m using the acc1 for battery charging and acc2 for my phone while riding (use AllTrials App while riding).

I scanned through both the Owners Manual and the Repair Manual and the only mention to the ACC 1 & ACC 2 are just on the fuse box and wiring diagram. There isn't any other information I could find, so thank you for showing where these are before I start pulling apart things on my bike while I still need it to commute in the meantime!

Nice video. Two comments for better and safer connections: 1. When confused or in need of verification of which wire is which, use the multi tester Continuity mode. I would never rely on my eyes following a cable. 2. To distinguish between the + (12V) and the - (GND) on terminals either use crimps in different colors, + is always red and - is also black, with DC electronics. If that is not possible, use a $1 black permanent marker and paint the - terminal so that it is very clear which is the + and which is the -. No need to add zip ties, which is not a standard anyway, and in a matter of a few days nobody would remembers if the zip tie is + or -...

When I bought my 2014 KTM 500XCW, I thought it would be the last bike I would ever own. It was made street legal and could do single track in the mountains, as well as 150 mile desert ride, or ride downtown for coffee with my dog. I really wanted the orange frame, but they did not offer it except in 6 days trim and on the SX bikes. In 2015, all the enduro got the orange frame. I was pissed...well, jealous anyway. That is why I got the 2016 KTM 300 XCW 6 Days. The 2015 690R is a result of a 40 year friendship with my Navy buddy, Ron. He and I owned the same Norton P11 Scrambler, and me getting this 690 was because of him. It has turned out to be the best all around motorcycle I have ever owned, and opens up venues I had not considered before. Hopefully Ron and I will extend our friendship by riding our 690s for another 20 years. Check back with me then. :o)

I did forget about the ACC wires. I always run heavier wires from the battery to the headlight area to attach high draw items like the headlight, driving lights and heated grip, among other things. So, I don't use the ACC wires. I definitely would not try to use the ACC wires for heated grip, the load is way too much for those little OEM wires. You should be OK with the USB charger.
@telerover
@telerover 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ron, I have not used heated clothing or grips, but from what I can tell, the ACC plugs can handle these accessories safely. Each connector has 10 Amps available and from what I can tell, heated grips pull up to 4 amps. Heated clothing from Heat-Troller pull 7.5 amps. I understand that the fuse bank has extra fuse slots so running a separate harness might be a good thing, as you recommend.
@telerover

BTW, the 2.1 amps from the USB port is at 5V so that is 10.5 watts. The pull from the 12 v battery through the ACC1 or ACC2 would only be 0.8 amps from the 10 amps available.

+telerover Safely and efficiently are to different things, especially when you are a long way from home trying to keep warm and still being able to see road at night, all the while keeping the battery charged with a challenged charging system. The easiest way to get more electrical power is to efficiently manage what you already have. If you just want to charge your phone and operate your camera you should be fine with the ACC wires.

So you just spliced a random connector onto your wanted accessory? And then shoved that connector into the corresponding acce2 output?
@telerover
@telerover 2 жыл бұрын
yes, but the acc wires are so tiny and any flexing over the long term caused them to break. On my 2019 I tied all my accessories directly to the battery with there own fuse using an 18 or 16 AWG SAE cable.

Hey telerover. Did you sell your Motominded Baja Squadron kit? Might be interested. Thanks for another how to great video. Just got my 690 back from suspension shop. Now I need to do some usual mods like adding GPS and voltmeter. Kam

@@telerover No problem. I'll post a "looking for" ad. I just picked up my bike from Solid-Performance. Very nice shop. I posted review on pics on ADV and Google . I also shared your great video about the two spare power sources. Keep the good videos coming. I'll be watching a lot of them as I mod my KTM. Thanks. Kam

I want to add two dual USB ports in the ACC1 and ACC2. Do they need to be fused in the line?
@telerover

jeffreyrstapler no, because the acc1 and acc2 are protected in the fuse panel under the seat.

you love KTM so much thst you put orange stripes on your truck and ktm stickers...? lol
@telerover
@telerover 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have to admit I am a KTM super-fan. I even have orange underwear. However, my truck used to have red and blue racing stripes after 911, but when the vinyl faded, I took them off. It damaged the paint, so it was cheaper to put more racing stripes where the others used to be, and I had 3 KTM s. When I got done putting them on, it was 1 week before the Broncos won the superbowl and my neighbors thought it was because I was a football fan. I had to put the KTM decals to show my true faith. It only takes one ball to play sports, 2 to race motorcycles

Hi Rover i didn't know who to turn to but my bike 2015 690R (less than 500 miles on the ODO) has recently developed an issue. the issue it is having is then i turn the key and allow the system check to complete, i then flip the kill switch to the on position. when i do this i hear the FI prim but in my case it doesn't stop. i found a video that depicts what is happening exactly.. any insight would be of great help because im stuck here is the video that depicts the problem kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2q1dZ6XhZqikNE thanks again David

+sealmanferger I don't know much about what is supposed to happen, but I think there is always fuel flowing in an EFI system. Does it run OK otherwise? I have an ABS dongle, so I normally start the bike with the rocker switch on, which disables the ABS on the rear, for dirt riding. I have not really paid attention to what noises are happening, as I trust that it is working, other than when my fan turns on.
@sealmanferger
@sealmanferger 8 жыл бұрын
+telerover yes everything seems to be running fine once I hit the ignition. I can keep quite remember if it made this noise the whole time and so forth some reason I really noticed it yesterday.. from what I remember it would just prime the bike and then stop and be silent... maybe Ron might have an idea or could do a preliminary test and see how his bike acts.. I don't want to have to take it in for this
