If you're looking for a small SUV. This is the one. Had ours almost a year no regrets. Power is fine. The nav screen is perfect. You're only two feet away. Why do you need an 8" screen unless you're blind. ALL cars have road noise. With the radio on there is no noise. People complaining about it are crazy.

Just got a new CX5. we love it. Honda CRV was top contender but nowhere near as nice looking. Looks dated inside and out.Also considered the Escape. We drove several, and did not care for the cheaper build and feel, noticed in the drive too. We could've gotten a great deal but just couldn't do it. Also the CX5 got best safety out of all SUVs. The Ford failed front crash test badly. That was of huge concern. On the Mazda, we don't notice any noise on highway, nothing more than any avg. car. We didn't get the navigation because we don't need it, and that's the only thing that seems to get negative remarks. Anyhow, the CX5 looks great, feels real peppy and solid feel. We are getting great MPG compared to our older Rav4. With any car, nothing's perfect, figure what's most important to you/your family and narrow it down.

If you want this car to be fun, you should really try the manual transmission 2.0 liter engine FWD. I know it sounds crazy, but trust me. The car is lighter that way, more nimble and more fun to maneuver, and the manual transmission is superb quality, even rivaling those found on more expensive cars, just a joy to row your own gears in this thing. It is the smaller engine, but with the manual transmission and lighter weight, you're able to get some good speed out of it.
@JA-rn5qv9 жыл бұрын
I agree about the manual transmission. I'm disappointed though that it's not available with the AWD. Only way I would consider this car is if/when the AWD version has a manual transmission option.
@thebunnis9 жыл бұрын
J Alenichev well in the USA where I live, where manual transmissions are becoming an endangered species, they treat manual transmissions like they're the economy special, so you often only get them on the base models unless you're talking sports cars. I imagine in other countries, particularly in Europe, the CX-5 may well be available with AWD with the manual transmission.

I did the same and I am glad I did, it has so much more room inside , even more room than a Volvo xc60, and if you drive it economically it get better mileage than the manufacturers stated figures on the highway s far I managed to get 16km/L over a distance of 20km , this is with the AC on full and outside tem 40c. loving it more everyday. 2.5 with cvt.

Me says it has regenerative braking, it does not. The Mazda 6, which I own is the only model with their iEloop system which captures engine braking power and stores it in a capacitor for use in powering electrical systems. The CX-5 doesn't have it but they should consider adding it because on my Mazda 6 I am averaging in real life 35-37 mpg and it's a rather large mid sized sedan not pregnant roller skate which is your only other option aside from a full hybrid. That's not highway, but total overall average at ~ 50% city 50% highway driving.

The AWD is heavier than the FWD as is always the case in any car. Also if you get the larger 2.5 liter engine, that adds a bit of weight as well. The 2.0 liter FWD CX-5 weighs almost exactly the same as a Mazda6 sedan! Unbelievably light for an SUV.

I am pretty sure this was the Grand Touring trim, with the 19" wheels, leather and navigation, not the Touring trim. Also, iELoop regenerative breaking is not available, at least not in the US. When you see this having 184 HP and then compare it to a '16 Ford Escape 2.0 with 260 HP.... Is it really that much of a difference? Doesn't the weight of the SUV's come into play, as far as the HP difference and feel. Even just car brands in general. Mazda, versus Ford in this example. Is one brand's HP better than the other's? I know the Ecoboost versus non-Ecoboost would make a difference too.

I've owned the 2.0 liter version of this car for about 2 years now and cannot at all agree with the feeling it has a lack of power(i mean this is not a race car) and i have traveled a lot with it fully loaded with 3 adults and lots of cargo, lets consider that this is not a Camaro or a Mustang . compared with regular family cars this has a lot of power vs the rest of the cars in the road, i have been driving lately a Chevrolet Cruze and a Dogde Dart and my CX5 outperforms them by a 150% the least, also you only have to remove the headrest in the backseats to lay them down nicely and quickly.
@yippie686210 жыл бұрын
We almost bought one of these. It is a nice small SUV, almost perfect, but a few important things were a deal breaker. 1. Too much wind and road noise from 60mph and above. 2. Not enough power. 3. Some cheap plastics. I could have overlooked number three fine but not the first two. Also, I don't think it's four wheel drive system is as good as VW's 4motion, Jeeps, or Subaru. If Mazda can at least finally get that diesel over here and also put in some more sound insulation it would be worth looking at it again.
@inodesnet10 жыл бұрын
Thumbs up for the CX-5 diesel. I have one here in Australia. Superb diesel that makes others look like they are 5 years behind. Best comparison to show how far ahead it is, is when you compare the CX-5 to the Tiguan. The VW TSI Gasoline model is rev happy and the performer, but the TDI has the fuel economy. Jump into the CX-5 and it's a contrast. The 2.5L Gasoline is as lazy as the Tiguan TDI, while being as thirsty as the Tiguan TSI - i.e. the worst of both worlds. Meanwhile the CX-5 Diesel outperforms the Tiguan TSI by a massive margin, and also outperforms the fuel economy of the Tiguan TDI. Idle them next to each other and the Tiguan diesel drivers cry too. The CX-5 diesel is lighter, more rev happy - and sounds like a deep throated gasoline rather than a tractor. Having driven the CX-5 2.0L, 2.5L Skyactiv-G's..... they paled in comparison to the 2.2L diesel monster.

I bought a 2014 cx5 touring. I was sorry I did. I owned it for about 8 months and traded it in for a Ford Escape. The road/wind noise was horrendous....you couldn't even hear the radio. I also thought the heating system was bad. We have cold winters here. If it got down to around zero or lower, it would take forever for it to put out any heat. And when it did put out some heat, if you went down a hill, the cold engine light would come back on and start blowing cool/cold air. I complained for months about these problems and they said they could not find anything wrong and that wind noise and the heating issue were "characteristic". I emailed corporate Mazda and all they would say is that I had to work with the local dealership.....who wouldn't acknowledge a problem existed. I finally got fed up, I was not going to drive a vehicle that I was so frustrated with. I drove down to Ford...they had some really good incentives at the time. I got an 2014 Escape SE....and I love it. Best decision I ever made was to get rid of that Cx 5..
@yippie686210 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Ford was pretty nice too. I also really liked the Subaru Forester. I'm happy though with my VW Tiguan. Having one minor problem with a door seal making the widow a little too frosty. It also whistles sometimes. I have to get that fixed. Everything else has worked like a charm. Even though it is 4-wheel drive I might get some good snow/ice tires for it. The Mazda was nice but glad I made the call about the wind noise. I didn't know about that bad heater so it was the right decision. Hope you didn't lose too much money on the trade.

Chris Free regarding the CX-5 diesel... I live in Australia where diesel is typically more expensive. $1.49 per litre versus $1.20 non-diesel. I was sceptical about the saving given the diesel is a far more expensive engine. Would the saving off-set the cost. After testing the 2.0L Skyactiv-G against the 2.2L I suppose answer was - it didn't matter. The diesel is far more capable in every single measure. It's a such an easy engine to live with on a day to day basis that the saving didn't matter. But nearly 3 years with this vehicle it's proving to become better and better with age. The diesel has a much longer lifetime. It's performing much better than when new posting 6.5L/100km (or 37mpg) in the city - a figure impossible when it was new, and impossible by a fair margin by the gasoline/petrol engine. Add to that it performs like a V8 engine, and you get the best of both worlds. It's quite unique for a diesel in that Mazda's diesel is designed in a completely different way to other manufacturers. It's much lighter, high revving and quieter than anything else. I'd driven the VW Tiguan diesel and it feels like it's a decade behind. It's slow, noisy, sluggish and only matches the CX-5 on one thing - fuel economy. So pleased that I made the choice for the diesel. The fact that resale is so high still (we're getting 70% after 3 year here versus 65% for the petrol) you get your investment back in day to day driving and resale. This car is going to do an easy 10 year run though without breaking a sweat.

There are two things Mazda must do to improve the company. I think they have to make their cars with quitter cabins, and they must improve their infotainment systems. My wife and i love the driving dynamics of Mazdas, but we both have passed on Mazda and went with the competition because of Mazdas poor cabin insulation and less than average infotainment system.

Agree with what U said about the wind noise. But I can tell U the 2014 Mazda 3. Wind noise wasnt an issue for me cause I dont care about that. And I like my music loud. Now if U have a family and want to buy Midsize sedan or bigger vehicles like crossovers or SUVs. Then I can understand why that is important. Didnt test drive the 6 or CX5. So I couldnt tell U about the insulations? And yes the infotainment systems are slow & only have a 5.8 size touch screen..BUT thats for all of the Mazdas BUT the Mazda 3. It uses the newer&faster infotainment system even on the 2014 Mazda 3s. And the Touch screen is 7 inches:) And thats why I got it:) Besides these 2 minor things Mazda is top in gas mileage, reliability & fun steering/power:) And the looks both interiors&exteriors for all Mazdas look the best in their class. No cheap materials&looks more expensive like a luxury car.Almost more European than Japanese..lol. Safety is top rated. Mazda 3 was Autoguides car of the yr last yr. And Mazda 6 was runner up. It won not just in its class. But overall. Beating out Benz & Caddy. Consumer Report most reliable cars of last yr put Mazda number #5. This yr Mazda jumped 2 spots to number#3. Only Lexus&Toyota hold their 2 top spots. Which isnt surprising cause I had a Camry for 2 decades. Both Lexus & Toyota are basically the same company so Mazda is basically 2nd most reliable really..lol. But even in the last few yrs/months even Toyota&Honda had recalls. Nissan the most. And also Ford, Audi, Lexus, etc.. Subaru has recalls in the states with oil problems. But they have been generally reliable. But only Mazda has had zero recalls. Especially since they got rid of partnering with Ford & work alone since developing their SkyActiv Tech Engines:)

you're best option for a AWD brand new car would be the base Subaru Forester manual.
@bokkey459 жыл бұрын
adyyy22 Why is AWD so important? It only adds weight to the car and makes it less fun to drive. If I was going to buy this car I would just get the FWD version because it's lighter and faster hence more fun to drive...also it gets better mpg.
@adyyy229 жыл бұрын
bokkey45 That's your opinion. My opinion is, its pointless to buy a CUV with just front wheel drive, especially if you live North with heavy winters. Besides, CUV's are not made to be fun to drive but to be safe, reliable, comfortable carriers. Why would anyone buy a CUV to have fun with it? Also, some of the fastest cars in the world are all wheel drive, GT-R case in point. GT-R is also one of the more popular cars with car enthusiasts and it's all wheel drive. Gas mileage is honestly that much different too. It would add up over the years, but all wheel drive is so worth it in snowy conditions.
@bokkey459 жыл бұрын
adyyy22 "all wheel drive is so worth it in snowy conditions"...you sound like a used car salesman. All wheel drive makes little to no difference in the snow compared to FWD. It's used as a sales pitch to trick buyers into paying extra for their cars. Good traction in slippery conditions is all about having the right tires. I've driven plenty of both FWD and AWD cars in the snow, there is no noticeable difference in performance and traction. Point is: if you can't handle a FWD car in the snow, you won't be able to handle an AWD car in the snow either. As for the fun aspect: Mazda engineered this car to be sporty and fun to drive. It is one of the most fun to drive crossovers on the market. I've driven a few and they are a blast. The reason I would buy a CX-5 would be to have a fun sporty vehicle with the advantage of more cargo space. If you were looking on the side of comfort rather than sport, why are you so concerned with having a manual?
@adyyy229 жыл бұрын
bokkey45 I have a Forester and a Camry. Forester with poor tires is still so much easier to maneuver in the snow. It does make a difference, and how! I have to disagree with you on this. Now mind you, stopping with all wheel drive makes no difference to FWD, still have to drive slow if you want to stop when icy. This is where people make big mistakes with AWD. Mazda designed it to be sporty because Mazda does and has been doing it for a long time. This is when you also lose comfort which most people buy CUV's for. Keyword, most. It all comes down to the preference, but majority people buy them for, like i said: practicality, comfort, durability, etc. I myself would prefer Mazda over other CUV's because it is more fun to drive and more driver oriented, where competition is more family oriented. Manual is something i have been driving ever since i started. Preferred it then and will continue until my heath allows it and until there are manuals still available. It's a dying breed anyhow. It would be hard to get used to automatic, i mean not really hard, just i hate automatics, especially this new crap CVT.

Well those grinning grills are gone bud. The KODO design language (although I'm not sure if it's a 'language') brings all the Mazdas their mean looks and all the automotive journalists have praised it's aggresive design amongst good overall SKYACTIV engine, transmission ,chassis, and more.

Yes ,but would you consider a shitpot quality Audi or VW? and considering MB are facing a quality problems in the USA recently with massive cylinder head leakage engine problems.
@seb594510 жыл бұрын
Just get a GTI. Better in every way except for reliability.

AWSOME!! Can't wait for Mazdas upcoming Diesel engine! My second choice would be Honda CR-V and their upcoming HR-V

Rear view cameras are so useless. They put them in cars so women buy them.
@mattb977410 жыл бұрын
In a few years its required on all new vehicles in the US.
@TimJoseph0803199010 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's useless, if you can't see anything behind you, such as a child or small vehicle, because automakers today are making rear visibility less important, when it comes to aerodynamics and styling. There are so many reports of children dying in back up crashes without backup cameras in the US, especially with SUVs, because the rear windows are higher and not lower. Having blind spots is dangerous when driving.
@fakeappellation734310 жыл бұрын
Tim Joseph We should start by putting back up cameras on big trucks (53 feet) and then put them on cars, not the opposite.

I highly recommend buying the 2016 Hyundai Tucson instead. The 2015 Mazda CX-5's interior is cheap and tacky.

+MilanoFootball You have to be kidding or just blind. Tucson interior is full of hard recycled plastic and looks very outdated. Cheap and tacky interior is just what you get with the Tucson...nice try.

Go check the 2015 JD Power Vehicle Quality and Reliability Study results. Hyundai and KIA now make the highest quality and most reliable cars in the auto industry. Mazda cars are among the worst quality along with Fiat and Subaru.

UltimateDriver Hyundai makes the most reliable cars. I think everyone who lives in 2015 knows this.

UltimateDriver I agree. Hyundai and KIA make very high quality cars. Mazda is Japan's poor man's car. Toyota and Honda is Japan's good car. Japanese rich people buy German cars.
@SunburstFender189 жыл бұрын
+UltimateDriver Since Mazda divorced Ford their vehicles are very reliable. If you had kept up with car ratings for the past 3 years, Mazda have surpassed Hyundai/Kia in reliability...fact.

Korean cars for people who just start engine and drive at 80 km with fully packed features ( shetty quality ) but for people who likes to have fun car and care about how the car it handles it self sorry it's the worst cars you can get :) I rent Kia Optima for 2 days and the only way I can describe it one of the worst cars I ever drove .
