I think Ken's explanation of the DEF tank was spot-on. The EcoDiesel is made for people who want a truck but rarely (if ever) use it as one so they want to enhance the experience by not making people buy DEF every tank--the dealer just tops it off every oil change and the owner never has to worry about it (I work at a VW dealership and we top off the DEF tank each oil change for the same reason). HD truck buyers have already come to grips with the fact that they have to buy DEF so they might as well save space and weight on the truck and make people buy DEF more often--if the gas station has a pump it isn't that big of an inconvenience.

Justin Tarvid You don't have to be in business to understand the importance of spending money wisely. If you're smart, you know every little thing counts. If you and your spouse were to spend an extra $1.00 each on each meal every day, imagine how much that will add up by the time you retire.

What if one truck gos through a "regen" on the run and the other doesn't? Also I've filled a heavy duty diesel truck for years and even though you try your level best to be consistent and accurate ( 2 clicks or 1) there is no way it always fills the same. Especially in this short run a very small difference in the gal amount will change the mpg significantly.
@eugenem52449 жыл бұрын
Agreed, these trucks need to be driven way more for more accurate numbers.
lonely4wd region or regeneration is the process of which the emissions system will use the Diesel Exhaust Fluid and inject it into the Diesel Particulate filter in and with the "burn" of the soot. The Urea Fluid is sprayed to create a "clean" burn. This process uses more fuel. -this is incase you don't want to read the wiki version
@NordicNevs9 жыл бұрын
no problem at all. that is the elementary version but if gives you a general idea of it for sure.
@larry80659 жыл бұрын
Including *REGENERATION* is *VERY IMPORTANT*. If this truck didn't regenerate, the mpg number is virtually worthless. You have to include regen, and it likely didn't go into regen around a 43 mile trip.
@matt42709 жыл бұрын
FUCK THE epa! Thanks for ruining diesel trucks you shithead collection!
@pat159649 жыл бұрын
On the def equipped trucks getting them to go into regen is actually harder. They produce and the filters capture a lot less soot so you go from about every 100 miles on a Ford 6.4l to as much as 500 (that's not towing easy flat highway miles btw) in a 6.7
@larry80659 жыл бұрын
PatE624 It still depend on how you drive. When an engine is cold, DEF isn't even used, it only works at operating temps. So if you're the kind that likes to make short trips, you should expect very frequent regens. I know people that say regenerate almost every time they drive their trucks.
@TheMILVET9 жыл бұрын
I know FLT is a Ford channel, but lets be honest. DEF storage? It will take 2 years at 120 degrees for a gallon of DEF to evaporate, when it does it converts to ammonia and gets gassed off. DEF is "not like gas". Shelf life1 year (ISO Spec 22241-3). The DEF can freeze during the winter, however the truck reheats the tank thawing it out. The SCR system handles that. I just wonder what Ford will say when they are required to use it. What comes out of a DEF treated exhaust is water and nitrogen.

@Jassman35369 жыл бұрын
As I have always appreciated your tests FastLane in always trying to do your best in making these comparisons fair..Like I mentioned in the other video, and still awaiting your response...where was the accuracy in making sure these trucks in fact did a Regan..The fact is your results are not correct on the Ford for comparison and my calculations are different than yours. I think to make it fair to your viewers is do another test with these variables in place and make sure to get the same rear end ratios....Lastly, get GM to participate, A Duaramax needs to be in the mix. Thanks Guys.
