Our first dyno run with the Yamaha MT-10, where we compare it to its R1 sibling, and also Aprilia's class-leading Tuono 1100 - UPDATE - see there are a lot of comments about the MT's power results being 'weak'. To those we say this: firstly, it's Euro4 spec. Secondly, even so it'll lift off the throttle in the first three gears and with a ping of the clutch in fourth, and revs really quickly. Weak, it ain't...

I did a test ride on one and it nearly pulled my arms off. Probably going to be my next bike. Any naked bike over 120 Bhp is going to be a lot of fun.

I have an FZ 10 and i actually love it! tons of power plus when you get an ECU flash you get 150 hp to the rear wheel

Randy Warnock Hi Randy, to get the 150 hp on the rear wheel do you need a decat?

I own a TUONO 1100 -16 and i have tested MT09, MT10, S1000R, Z800, Z1000, GSX S1000A. It's just S1000R who are in the same class as TUONO1100. But TUONO has so much midrange. As seen in this clip. And that´s what make it so fun to ride. Even as a naked. And the sound is priceless. My tip is that you test the tuono1100 befor any purches of a naked mc.

My MT-09 was fun as hell, plenty of torque right where it's needed. Looks like this would be double the fun.

Love the bike, but the price seems like a bit much when you can get the sport versions of the liter bikes (R1M, BMW RR, etc) for a few grand more. AND the FZ-09 for $8,000 - can't beat that price

Most of the European motors with 160hp at the crank (Ducati, KTM), seem to kick out around 135-140hp at the rear wheel so its not to far off. Only BMW seems to get close with 150 ish at the rear wheel (with 160 claimed). with a remap, should be good for 150 ish.

Fast Bikes Magazine Thanks a lot for response! Any suggestions for the best way to make the gsxs as 'lively' as the MT10? Some kind of sprocket changes maybe?
@fastbikes
@fastbikes 8 жыл бұрын
With the TC off it's pretty lively already we thought! Makes basically the same power as the MT, however, the GSX (because it has a much older engine we think) responds to bolt-on tuning very well. You'll see a vid of this coming soon here, but a full stainless system/carbon can and quick dyno map saw 150bhp and a significant increase in torque across the range. We'll dive into the ECU next and our man reckons at least 155bhp but, even more nuttily, another dollop of midrange torque to come too on top of what we've already gained. You won't need to touch the gearing with that! Frankly, 140bhp is enough for a naked anyway but, hey, we always love a little more!
@DocumentaryHub
@DocumentaryHub 8 жыл бұрын
Everyone who is complaining about HP do realize HP is pretty much useless on a naked? You do realize HP is top speed? Torque is what you want on a naked. And this bike seems to have plenty of it, even for a 4 cilinder.

Not with the bhp = top speed, torque = acceleration again... Read up on high school physics, people, please. It's really not that difficult.

I would go on to wager that if you were to install similar mods to this thing that are available for the older FZ1, (flies, airbox, PC, FCE, exhaust etc), you'd be pushing around 160hp at the rear wheel. My -09 FZ1-S puts out 147hp/102Nm at the rear wheel after the mods, I'm guessing this bike would absolutely stomp mine with a similar setup.

I own a 1998 air-cooled Bandit 1200, with a +3mm piston kit and some light headwork. It makes an honest 120 hp at the rear wheel with EIGHTY FOUR pounds of torque. Carbureted and jetted carefully, it RIPS straight from idle with no flat spots. And.... it's paid for.

140hp to the wheel, almost the same of the gsxs1000 but being a crossplane more midrange and low end. not quite as much as the top hyper nakeds but good. I dont know the price in the USA but in my country a tuono 1100 costs 200€ LESS than the yamaha, its weird that aprilia has a consistent price across europe but yamaha pricing differs up to 4000€ depending on de the country you purchase it, the UK has the best pricing 12k € Austria and Spain have the worst pricing at almost 16k €.
@chriskosch5127

right now, 6 years later, APRILIA is way way way expensive. I bought a tuono 1100 factory in 2020 for 14000€ and now you would be paying around 19000€. Now I have a MT10 which is very very funny to ride and LOT easier than the Tuono. LOT EASIER.

When looking at Exhaust manufacturer figures, like e.g. Remus, the measured power with stock exhaust is almost the same as the factory figures. I guess they measure the way as you did. Or are these power figures made up?
@fastbikes
@fastbikes 8 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, all dynos read slighttly differently, various make dynos can read markedly differently, or smoothing factors can be applied to simulate a crank figure. For us it's about using the same dyno each time, rear wheel figure.

+9enius the Tuono is a better road bike for sure, much more midrange power and can still hang with the rsv4 on track (maybe not the rf)
@SteveC-Shaman
@SteveC-Shaman 8 жыл бұрын
Once the RF clears 10,000 RPM it's all over in a straight line. But *MOST* riders would be better on the Tuono since it's easier to steer and its torque curve is plump in the easy-to-ride range. A pro will be a lot quicker on the V4, it has over 20whp on the Tuono, pulling max HP to 13,500 as stock.

That's James from JHS Racing, he does bits and bobs for us and is a valued partner. For Fast Bikes for the last ten years, and for the other lot recently. Although when we say 'other lot', Al still works for us too, so, a moot point to be fair. We're also quite sure James would like to be counted as his own man, running his own business, and helping us out, rather than as 'someone's' mechanic, ha ha!

That's not that far off from the current Gen Z1000. They're selling the fking things for $20k in Australia when the S1000R is the same price - and faster. My 10 year old Fireblade is still faster. This bikes a downer.

watch the group test video on bike world. they are virtually neck and neck in the drag race. I prefer the real world tests than a dyno.
@fastbikes
@fastbikes 8 жыл бұрын
Drag tests with two riders who have a marked weight difference never tells the whole story about power and acceleration, results are skewed due to this, we've done it hundreds of times before ourselves and just switching riders can create entirely different results on the same two bikes, or different rider weights can even things out. Single bike acceleration tests etc, by the same rider, is the only way of getting a genuine speed comparison really, too many variables to interfere with the results otherwise.
@ttmadness34
@ttmadness34 8 жыл бұрын
+Fast Bikes Magazine true, but dyno results can be misleading too. plus comparing them to 2 different bikes which cost nearly 5k as much is misleading too. just my opinion of course. at least mcn tested them and ran them on the dyno the same day. speed triple 128, ducati monster 140, mt10 152, superduke 157 and s1000r 159.

Gearing is what makes the bike as quick as some others, at least up to a certain road speed. Same with the R1, really. If you leave yours totally stock, then there's your comparison.

The Tuono isn't really well compared to the S1000R, TBH. It's a much more visceral experience. i4s leave me cold anymore unless I'm at 10/10ths.
