2017 F150 Water Leak

May 3, 2017 after a night of rain water is leaking into the cabin of my 2017 F150 from the drivers side grab handle. The truck has been to Courtesy Ford Lincoln in London Ontario 3 times to repair this issue.

Hey everyone! Found the solution for this. I have an f150 with the panoramic sunroof, and was having the same leak that eveyrone descried on the handle. The leak is caused by the wind-guard that pops up when the sunroof opens. The hinge that attaches the guard to the top of the truck is located in the rainwater trough. One of the attachment rivets was broken, causing water to leak through and under the attachment area of the wind guard. Replaces the rivet with a .7 M$ bolt and nut and sealed the area with gutter sealant. Worked like a charm! Hope this helps!

I am having the same problem on the passenger side. I had the sunroof repaired by the dealer a few months prior. I started noticing a small puddle on the floor mat next to the door. I thought it was AC condensate but the puddle was not under the dash and the carpet was dry. This happened twice. Finally found it when it started dripping on my passengers leg. It was coming from the cap in the handle on the pillar. Took it into the dealer (Robinson Bros. Ford, Baton Rouge). The service advisor said they could not recreate the leak but recommended replacing the sunroof glass for $1400. I was charged $140 for that bit of advice and took my truck back without taking their advice. So here I am on KZbin and finding others with the same problem and how to fix it for much less than $1400. I plan to buy another F150 King Ranch but I won’t be returning to this dealer.

Had exact same problem on passenger side on my 2016 F150 Lariat Supercrew. I took it to Ford prior the leak for sunroof rattle. They fixed the rattle but left the drain unplugged. Take the handle and sunvisor off and pull down the ceiling cloth. You will see the sunroof drain unplugged.

I live in the Chicago land area and own a 2017 f150 xlt. Recently had snow fall and a decent amount of precipitation as of Jan-Feb 2022. Today I noticed water on my floor board and as this would be normal to me during a wet season, I haven’t been in the truck in 3 days. That why when I noticed water on the floor mat it seemed unusual so I began looking into where this water was coming from. I then noticed the Oh shit handle, driver side A frame was wet and the top of my visor area was damp. I do not have a sun roof. I’ll be contacting ford in regards to this issue, however I’m hoping a fellow f150 owner might have an alternative option to solve this issue. Any suggestions or related issues would be greatly appreciated

my 2016 starting doing this on passenger side. cant find it-- window repair company was out, no issues-- it starting this year. any words on sunroof? damages seals? dry rot? thanks

Mine is doing th exact same thing on the passenger side, I just got the wind shield replaced thinking it was that as it was cracked but still leaks and I do not have a sun roof any ideas where it could be coming from? please help, Thanks.

My 17 started leaking as well. But my passenger rear seat belt was soaked. Been at the dealer for 2 weeks now and have heard nothing.

I know sunroof drain tubes get clogged and then back up . Windshields can leak around the edges. Marker lights can leak.

Hello, I see that others are having the same leak problem as myself. Passenger grab handle has water dripping out also drips through the ceiling instrument panel. (hope that what its called:) Has anyone found the reason why? And if so how do I fix? I'm a gal that's not mechanically inclined but very determined. And I simply can't bare the thought of giving the Ford Dealership anymore of my money, jerks sold me the truck with the problem and now refuse to fix. Appreciate any advice, thank you :)

One way to find a leak that I've seen on KZbin is to pressurize the cab with air and then put soapy water everywhere and when you see bubbles then you found the leak

I have a 2018 and I just found this same leak coming in on the passenger side handle. I just picked up the truck 3 months ago.

@tuyo_adventures.2185 I couldn't get it to leak again. It's been fine now since it happened. I think there was something blocking/slowing the drain from the sunroof. Hopefully you will figure out your cause.

Look up lemon law its for all 50 states and it states once the vehicle has been taken for repairs more than 3-4 times it eligible for the lemon law

Im having that problem on my 15 with no sunroof on it. Its an xlt supercrew cab. Idk where ita coming from? Im open to any ideas as to where it might be coming from on a non panoramic sunroof truck?!

@Caleb yeah, Its leaking from the seam on the outside. To be exact its leaking from the top of the driver side windshield on the corner. It has a hole in it.

rodriguezr009 Hi. Sorry for the late reply. It appears that my leak has been repaired for the time being. After 3 visits to the dealership (Courtesy Ford Lincoln) they started ignoring my phone calls, voice messages and emails. I contact Ford’s corporate customer service and complained about the dealership’s unwillingness to repair the leak and the opened a case. The dealership called me the next day and had me bring my truck in for a 4th time. The dealership outsourced the work to a leak specialist who was able to fix the leak. I can dig up the details of the repair if you like.

My 2011 Ford F350 was doing this on driver side grab handle. Talked with a water leak owner and Ford trucks from 2005 till 2020 are showing up with water leaks by grab handles. Fix: remove upper roof body side molding. Goes from rear doors all the way to front down side of windshield. Apply clear silicone on all gaps in metal channel and fill void under side windshield molding all the way to top. There is probably a 1/2" gap or less that can allow water to enter and penetrate interior. Reinstall all weatherstrip and this should resolve problem. I just did this on my truck and now I'm waiting to see if it leaks again. Sucks but what can you do. Thanks Ford..

The moon roof has drain lines that run through the A pillar. Your drain hoses are not connected.

The reason why it’s leaking it’s because water is accumulating in your drain system due to being clogged. It’s normal for water to leak by the sunroof but it has to go down the drain if the drain is clogged then it creates a puddle which slowly drips down and ends up at the door handle. I did an f150 today with the same problem.

I have a 2015 F150 XLT. I’ve been experiencing the same leaks, not as high up the trim to the handle. In pulling everything apart to find the leak, it’s NOT coming from the sunroom drain hose. I’ve found that it’s it’s leaking through the seam between the door panel and body frame, where the handle is. If you pull off the door seal and slowly pour water on the roof, it starts to form at the joint on the inside. Anyone else experience this?

I work at a glass shop n have 1 w same issue. Its not the sunroof cause this not have 1!!!! Looks as if seam seal has a small crack. Hate to seal a 2015 like that though

I cannot believe how many video's there are showing Ford pick ups leaking in one fashion or another. Am currently in the market for a pick up but Ford is getting further and further from the top of my list. Mechanical problems can be fixed but leak are horrible to even locate much less resolve.
