This is exactly what Toyota did for naming Lexus its luxury division in the 1980s, and Hyundai did the right thing with the name Genesis. The G90 looks beautiful, and hopefully becomes reliable as the first Lexus LS400 was over 26 years ago.

+Fussinated I have never owned a Lexus. Why?, because I have 3 different close friends who have all owned a Lexus of some sort at different times. The common link? They all hated them. All have said very unreliable. Mainly electrical/computer problems. It is like Toyota tests all new ideas/styling in their Lexus brand, work the bugs out in 5-7 years and when it is finally reliable transfers the ideas/styling into their Toyota line up. In short, if you like what Lexus is today, wait 5 years and you will get the exact same styling with dependability at tens of thousands of dollars less.....

Jason Hendren By Peter Valdes-Dapena October 26, 2015: 11:53 AM ET "Lexus managed the rare feat of having every one of its models that was included in Consumer Reports' reliability survey rank above average." Updated January 27, 2016 11:11 AM By Phil Nobile. "Getting the best overall score with 78, Lexus leads this year's best brands list. Toyota - 210,705 miles until worthless The public perceives Toyota as one of the most reliable automakers and our study concurs with this perception. While Toyota might not build the most eye-catching cars, they are certainly reliable and efficient. www.mojomotors.com/review/most-reliable-car-brands/ 2. Lexus: Lexus has three of the top seven ranked vehicles when it comes to long-term reliability. This includes the Lexus LX which is ranked at #1 along with it’s sister model, the Toyota Land Cruiser. I am a Korean, and I totally disagree with you Kawakami789. Your nickname seems like a Japanese and how could you speak for Koreans? Янчaн Д. better than a Lexus? are you kidding? that's the joke of the century. Nobody will ever take this car ahead of a Lexus unless a Korean really or someone who can't afford a Lexus and decides to opt for a cheaper option. Have u seen the new Ls 500? and you want compare Japanese Tech with Korean? the new Lexus beats every single flagship sedan out now in exterior and interior design. This Genesis looks like a car from two generations back so boring and flat. Not comparable to any of its rivals and that's just fact.

When a manufacturer makes something dope and is creative I'll give them the props they deserve nothing more. I like Bmw as well plus a host of other manufacturers including Toyota and Honda. I'm not sold on Korean cars cause I have driven them and had personal experience. When u compare a Toyota corolla 2013 model with a Sonata 2013 model, both of which I have driven I can tell u for a fact the corolla drives better and the Sonata is meant to be a camry competitor. There's no hate here just sharing personal experiences nothing more.

I replaced my 2011 Equus in April 2015 with the 2015 Genesis 5.0 because of three incidents of unintended acceleration and didn't feel safe driving it anymore. Recently I've been having problems with my 2015 Genesis 5.0 and I've only had it for eight months. All of the warning lights, which include AEB, BSD, engine, auto hold, power steering, AWD and ABS turned on while driving. Even power steering was not working as well. I had to take it back to Hyundai twice to look into this problem. I got my car back again two days ago after getting the speed sensor replaced and test driven by its service manager and foreman for over 450km. Hopefully the problem has been fixed once and for all to save me the trouble of bringing it back. I am so lucky to have two lemons from the same brand (one after the other). The Equus I bought in May 2011 was my first Korean car. I was very happy with it for the first few years until the first incident of unintended acceleration happened in August 2014. Such experience with my Equus and Genesis shake my faith in the quality of this brand.

Hyundai should have done this long time ago. Love their design, European style cars with Hyundai's low prices. Perfect. It is good that they have the AWD, I think this is one of the most important key factor for Genesis's success. Genesis is very smart buy. To make it easier for buyers to get over the Hyundai's name, they should ask themselves what other luxury car can I purchase or lease with this price?

personally I see this car is well done design. in and out the company name the brand . aren't my problem. when I go out shopping for a car. price. comfort. and reliability. in one line. are my concern. that's all. I don't care much for German Cars that I pay arm and legs and get no resale value !! I wonder how many people think like me . I mean consumer thoughts change and I think German auto makers need to rethink how they make their cars. the over engineering and overly sophisticated devices on them make them Undesirable brand to own. for long term ownership !! at least for me it is ..

***** I'm confident about these companies because they are considered new in this segment . I'm sure they are doing pretty good job to prove themselves worthy in the Market. Unlike BMW or Mercedes Benz. they got the consumer confidence to the point they are not paying much attention like they use to in the past . soon they are going to lose that Consumer confidence it's happening but slowly. the consumer are changing direction. the logic rule is Nothing remain the same forever. every company has it's momentum!! :-)

08yallvon when it comes to phones it i easy for consumers to choose from the list what they desire the offers and the price affordable. but when it come to cars the story is different. i didn't mean in my comment the difficulty and sophistication of using them/Driving them .. i meant here when it comes to maintenance and repairs. every body have a new push buttons car but guess what these push button key fobs when they stop working . reprogramming them is going to be expensive and is not something you can fix at any mechanic. you may not think it is a problem if you live in a City area . but if you drive in isolated roads in country roads wintry season you really need something dependable at least you can get it to move somewhere not completely dead and it has to go to the dealer !!

I really love the shifters' design. Reminds me of the Audi A8 (which reminds me of the throttle on a jet). The silver buttons on the dash - above the shifter - look similar to the same on the Mercedes S-Class (I wonder if they are metal? Nothing like a button that is cool to the touch). My biggest gripe is the control knob input for navigation of the menus. I think they could design something better - something more natural and fluid, like a rotating ball (I like Lexus' take on this). Finally, I'm sure they will have different trim options, but I would like one that keeps all the same luxury in the front, but gets rid of much of the unnecessary hoopla in the back. My kids don't need 16-way heated/ventilated seats (just more stuff that can get broken). Very nice car, oh how far Hyundai has come!

I've owned a 2012 Genesis R Spec and now a 2014 Equus. I came from owning BMWs, MB and Audis for the past 30 years. I can say each of these cars were a pleasure to drive. On the other hand, the service experience is horrible. Not that things have gone wrong, just the level of the dealerships for general service. They have a long way to go to feel like your walking into a BMW service center! For the Equus, they sell and market the car with a premium service experience and even give you a "hot line" to call. It's meaningless because the dealerships don't follow this. When Lexus, Infinity and Acura were introduced they build separate dealerships to support the experience. You can't turn on the TV , go to a sport event without seeing a Hyundai ad, so we know the brand is here to stay. Let's see how they reintroduce the Genesis/Equus Brand!

I have no I preference for luxury brands. That's why I had a 2004 VW Pheaton when it was introduced to Canada in 2004 and also bought a 2011 Equus when it came to Canada in 2011. The Equus is almost as luxury as Phaeton but at less than 2/3 of the price of Phaeton. My 2004 Phaeton is at the same price range of MB S models and BMW 7 series in 2004. I was very happy with the Equus for the first few years until having three incidences of unintended acceleration in August 2014 and early April 2015.

In Manhattan the Equus has a certain cachet... you only see them in black with Consul or Diplomat plates, passengers hidden behind shades, usually parked outside seriously high-rent real estate. In many other parts of the US the Korean brands are still perceived as cheap. To me personally, the Equus and 2015 Genesis have taken on legit status. The G90 will be even more so.

It's basically the same design as the old Genesis they were selling for 40k with slightly better engine. You can get an Infiniti that's faster (turbo or hybrid) better interior/exterior, better handling, way better intelligent cruise, for 20k less.

The design isn't bad it's just that all of its designs have already been seen since 2010 it's a generic German/British luxury car they took inspiration from other luxury car makers in Europe and made sure they picked the best Audi/Maybach/Bentley/Mercedes = Genesis G90 I say this to a very elegant car which is the G90 because the bar was recently raised higher due to another European car manufacturer from the Swedes they have created a new refreshing design and that's the Volvo S90

I wish they spend extra time developing it and introduce it in summer 2017. make a pull marketing strategy about it a little buzz and rumors and to develop it more and more. this is what Lexus had done from 1985 to 1990. they studied the luxury segment from zero to S-class killer.

+osamaFXX What makes you think they "didn't" spend extra time developing it??? What an insane statement! This has been in the works for more than 10 years! The Hyundai Genesis and Equus were supposed to have been released as Genesis models back in 2008 until the global recession pulled the plug on its launch. Developing it???, What you have here, is an initial launch, ... that is effectively already in it's 2nd generation! How's that for development??? Can't say that for the LS400's development and launch as you referenced. ..... Also, FYI ... Genesis is launching a multi million dollar marketing strategy next month in Superbowl advertising. read up!

I got in this car at the ny auto show, as well as $70-120k BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Lexus offerings and the G90 was absolutely the most solid, luxurious car at the entire show. All of the German lux cars had flimsy, cheap interiors that shook a lot when you closed the doors and I swear the seat buttons on the German cars felt like they were going to fall off. In the 90s and early 2000s, German lux were the kings of the segment, but today Hyundai is taking over. The G90 was HUGE, even bigger than the 7 series inside and had better leather and thicker seats than the German cars. Nothing shook and the car was solid when you closed the doors. People were practically fighting to get in the two G90s they had there and ritzy people kept asking for details and phone numbers to get more info for purchasing upon release. The Mercedes area was nearly empty lol Lexus has nice cars, but they're all tiny inside and they feel cheap for the price, plus Toyota has bad reliability right now.

Who cares about brand snobs, but honestly, I'm seeing lots of Mercedes and BMWs sitting on Hyundai lots, so that says a lot lol. I think most people are starting to realize that badges aren't what they used to be. BMW and Lexus have been letting people down lately and even the rich are seeing this. I saw someone trade in a brand new BMW 7-series for a Hyundai, not sure which model though, but that's crazy!

Then it won't be a Hyundai rebadge, but rather a Genesis rebadge. The Kia Isa concept ... an idea. It doesn't exist as a production model. Genesis has already confirmed it has a smaller and a larger RWD Suv's headed to market. My statement was that the Genesis SUV would not be rebadge Hyundai FWD Santa Fe's and the like. Want to bet which one will hit production first? The Kia concept hasn't even been confirmed as to if it will ever get production "Ok". You do know the difference between "concept" and prototype, yes? Prototype is an early pre production model. A concept is just an idea exercise.

So is Genesis going to be sold at Hyundai dealers? That would be a major fail on their part. They need to build a whole new dealer network even if it's only for 2 cars, along with build their line up, and make a ultra luxury car and/or super car to show that the brand isn't just a rebadged Hyundai.

+Liem Budzien Dead wrong dude ... Hyundai is the 4th largest manufacturer in the world, (Behind only Volkswagen, Toyota, and Renault/Nissan) ... having started building cars back in 1966 for their domestic market with import to the U.S. in 1986. Their cars are currently at the top of JD Powers reliabilty ratings ahead of Lexus and Mercedes Benz. +mountainhobo , I guess since Toyota made its first car in 1936, you could say that ... but Honda only made its first car in 1963 and made their Acura luxury division 23 years later in 1986, and before Toyota's Lexus in '89. Hyundai started building cars in 1966, and their Genesis luxury division in 2016. My point is ... After 50 years ... they've had plenty enough time compared to the competition.

The reason why modern Hyundais look more competitive and upmarket than ever is that Europeans, or more specifically Germans, have actually been in charge of developing their cars and managing brand marketing globally, instead of Koreans. All that the Koreans did was gathering talents from Europe to manufacture cars that have European copycat designs and are built by cheap third world labour.
