I'd buy a 911 over any of the competitors... Because: 1. Accordong to pretty much any review it is a fantastic driving car, pretty much king of the hill 2. Interior is well made and laid out (so at no point of driving the car would I ever think: "Whoever thought that this was good enough?") 3. You can live with it every day and you wouldn't be afraid of speed bumps, heavy rain or snow + I'd have no worries about it breaking down (even though that's seems to be not really much of an issue with most modern sportscars / supercas anymore) 4. I actually love the way it looks. Maybe less special and exciting than some competitors, but somehow classy and powerful at the same time. And another thing is the image factor... When you drive around in a Porsche, people think: "That's a very nice car. Seems that he has done well for himself." If you drive around with flashy McLaren, a Lambo or even a bright red Ferrari, half the people (usually children) think: "Wow, that's cool!" and the other half think: "What a flashy dickhead!"

I would go for the 911 turbo S because: 1) Fast as hell ...0-100 in 2.7 sec; 2) It can be launched a lot more times than the competion without any damage; 3) It is a lot better as a daily car than the competion; 4) Has back sits, which can be used as luggage storage for 2 people, so more practical than a 488 GTB, R8 or Huracan; Just my opinion!
@aristosachaion_4 жыл бұрын
Precisely my reasons for liking the Turbo S. Supercar performance with everyday practicality. You could go mudding in a Turbo S if you wanted to and you'd still be able to drive it to work and back the next day with no issues.

I prefer the “base” Turbo because center-lock wheels and carbon ceramic brakes are both a pain in the ass.

First of all thank you for this lovely review. A friend of mine owns a 458 and a Huracan. They are great cars in their own way. I was tempted to go for a Huracan or R8 V10plus but honestly i prefer Porsche for the classical timeless look and overall build quality and practicability. And i don't like to get too much attention. So i bought a Turbo S and did not regret it at all. I got the Aerokit for the slightly meaner look and i am so glad with it. Dreamt of a Turbo since i was kid and now i fulfilled my dream. I would not swap it for any other car in the world. Thanks again, keep up the good work.

I had a Novice student one time want to show me what his brand new 996 Turbo would do. So I took him out in the Instructor run group. Another instructor with a nicely set up 993S on track tires was ahead of us so I drove very slowly talking my student around the track until Mike was far, far ahead. Then having explained that section of track to my student I drove the Turbo at about 80%. Well after all, brand new car, not even mine. Even at just 80% we were on Mike so fast you wouldn't believe it. We did this on each section of track, over and over again, easily catching a very good driver in a fast track setup 993 all the while driving so smoothly and so well within the capabilities of the Turbo it felt easy, like you could do this all day, or a nice fun commute to work. Now granted this was a 996 Turbo vs 993 track car. So for today's 2017 Turbo, imagine playing like that with a guy in a 997 GTS. Or maybe even a 997 GT3. Yes the Turbo is that awesome. Didn't Chris Harris prove the Turbo S is faster than the GT3RS? Pretty sure he did. The Turbo. With a driver. There is no substitute.

I love the Ferrari which is pure sexuality and has an incredible voice, Maserati gets you the Ferrari "sex" at a lower price, the Lamborghini is just exercising your inner beast, Aston Martin has a sound an beauty beyond any of the other makes, Lotus is the only true sports car, Corvette and even now the Camaro, Mustang, can arrive at the dance and not be embarrassed at how they look but also dance as well if not better, but Porsche is without a doubt the most sane, economical, refined, technological marvel, intuitive, comfortable, reliable, and sensible of any make, ever. There is a reason that Porsche has such an esteemed race history. They not only concentrated on performance, handling, etc., they also worked hard at reliability. They were intentional about this and Lemans was one of the places they dominated because of this effort. This reflects in their road cars. You can also go anywhere in be comfortable. You can park a Porsche in a Walmart lot and not draw a lot of attention, and at a Ritzy event and accepted as "deserving" to be there. There is a versatility in that make. Plus the engineering is such that they take a design that should not work put an engine in it which due to the flat nature lowers the center of gravity and is balanced in it's smoothness, (making it more reliable), and you have a marvel that simply works. So this is a car which you would take any of the other makes and love it for a day but this is a sports car for a lifetime.

One great advantage of the Porsche 911 is its suitability for daily use. You can use it every day, at every weather conditions for every drive. Short or long, city road or highway. Consequently, you do not need a second car for daily routine.
@deanward82788 жыл бұрын
So I'm very lucky to have been in a position to buy the last model Turbo S 18 months ago (after owning a string of Porsches over the past 18 years) but I decided against it and went for a R8 V10 instead. Why? 3 reasons, the looks of the R8 mean that you see less of them on the road and whilst the Turbo S is special it doesn't grab you visually the way the R8 does I'd argue the R8 looks like a proper super car costing twice as much and the positive reaction it incites wherever I drive it is testament to that. 2nd reason was the noise, the R8's V10 (and the Huracans even more so) simply murders the Porsche even the stock exhaust let alone with a capristo or akrapovic on it, you just can't beat a naturally aspirated V10. Lastly the interior, I just didn't think that the Turbo S interior was that much of a step up from standard Carrera and the options list was so expensive. Now having said all of that I will concede that for me the fastest car in any weather condition that can be used every day IS the 911 Turbo S it's a phenomenal machine that's deserving of respect and now having owned a Audi R8 V10 I am considering a fully loaded Turbo S or a McLaren 570S as my next car. Porsche seem to have addressed most of my gripes and moved the came on with this particular generation of 911 a friend of mine clocking a 0-60mph time of 2.6 secs last weekend in the wet and 2.4secs in the dry from his Turbo S........ quite astonishing!

I own both a 911 and a 458. They are so different. The 911 is stunning engineering, does everything well - better than the ferrari. BUT, when i drive the ferrari, i am smiling all the time. You are immersed in a symphony of visual, auditory and sensation stimuli. If I had to own exactly one car it would be the 911. If more, I'd have the ferrari for smiles, and a porsche for use. Which is exactly what I've done. I suspect the choice is based on your on personal parameters. One is Teutonic. One is Italian.

@coleemma068 жыл бұрын
I've grown up a Porsche fan, particularly fond of Ferdinand Porsche. For $200k, I would only consider buying the 911 Turbo S because despite the occasional flagship hyper car, (Carrera GT or 918 Spyder), Porsche always utilized the 911 Turbo model to present their highest level of technology. That tech would then pass down their model range.

I think you summed it up perfectly at the end. The Huracan and 488 may look better and be more flashy, but performance-wise, they are not better. You can drive a 911 Turbo everyday and still take it to the track and thrash it. You can't daily drive a Lambo or Ferrari for fear that some jealous Neanderthal is going to mess with your car while you're away from it. My wife really wants a McLaren 720S and I would love a Lambo Hurracan but we both know we can easily get a 2 year old 911 Turbo or Turbo S for like 70-85k off lease with low miles. That’s far better option plus cheaper insurance.

I'd get the Carerra 4 cabriolet or 4S cabriolet, very generously optioned over a lightly or non-optioned Turbo. The 4's are better for adverse weather. As for performance, unless you take it to the track, which probably 99% of Porsche owners don't, the enhanced performance of a Turbo over a Carerra is inconsequential on residential roads. The savings of the Carerra over the Turbo would free up a lot of cash for options (granted, most Porsche options should already be standard equipment) that make it a more livable and pleasurable car from day-to-day.

Hi motoman Would say this turbo had a softer ride than a standard 991.2 when in normal suspension setting ? Thanks

I would buy a 911 over anything else for the same sort of money. A year ago I bought a 2003 911 C2 and it is by far the most fun car I have ever owned. I have a new BMW and I have had an Audi and lots of other nice cars and none of them come close to my old 911 there is just something special about the way you feel driving them. A new turbo would be amazing.

Great videos! It has to be the 991.2 Turbo S every time; incredible car. Maybe an RS6 Performance too

911 Turbo S over anything else. That's my dream car.

I'd get the C4S, because it has the perfect shape, lines and looks cleaner than the turbo (the air intakes and the aero bits are too big). Plus it's fast enough, for now. Cheers 😊

To be honest I would just buy a Lexus LC500 and kit it with all the options. Hey @Motomantv when you gonna take that thing for a spin?

Don't really know. We have put our Lexus relationship in review to determine if we will continue featuring them on the show.

I owned a few Porsche. And ferrari's Ferrari's are headaches and money pits yes they look better but Porsche is a better driving experience and you get more for your money yes they're not cheap to fix but nowhere near a Italian car repair cost you can drive the 9/11 much more without any issues and let's face it take it from an experienced driver who own Porsche and Ferrari none other car can take turns like a Porsche 911 and of story

I guess I'd fancy a 570S or R8V10+ as much as I'd fancy as 911 Turbo/Turbo S

Moto, This car, or the 911 GT3 RS?
@MotoManTV8 жыл бұрын
Good question. You know me, I am a cheapskate. So the idea of paying OVER sticker for a car is against my religion. Hence, the GT3 RS would be a no go on that grounds. But as I said in the film, most likely would do a second hand 991.1 Targa 4S Manual.

would love to buy 911, but alias I am stuck in lower income, so I now drive a 2014 Cooper S Coupe which provides a spirited ride and handling, so for now I just dream.

It's close between Mclaren and this - for its reputation for quality and greater real world usability, this by a nose. The other tough compare is combinations of cars - e.g. Vette grand sport, golf r plus a vacation for each of the next 10 years.

If I had $200k to blow I would get a Viper ACR 2017 and 2012 ACR. I live in Irvine California where a Porsche 911 is as common as a Toyota Camry. I drive a Tesla P85s. I once owned a 1985 Carrera 3.2 as a daily driver. Parts for them are astronomically expensive so I had to sell it before it bankrupted me.
