I sit on one of those bikes every time I'm at my local dealership. I've ridden sport and dual sport for seven years now, and I still find those M109's as fascinating as I did the first time I saw one. It's the only cruiser I've ever found aesthetically pleasing. Super neat looking, and that torque is just massive compared to anything else I've ridden.

I have this bike, I love it, I bought it and as it is blacked out, I thought the chrome indicators were out of place, so I have changed them to sleek black LED ones. People that have one or been on one will tell you, the video does not really show you how wide these bikes are, sit in a chair spread your legs as far as you can comfortably.......that's how wide it is.....I love it. I will never sell it. ......... Great review.

I have this bike. I hate it. The absolute worst bike I’ve ever ridden. An absolute pig in the fact the 109cc won’t get out of its own way. Also who puts the key next to the hot fricking cylinder? An absolute idiot that’s who. This gets a 2/10 rating. Can’t wait to sell this mess.

I got to demo a M109R earlier this year as well. I gotta say, if you like metric cruisers, this thing should be on your short list. Makes tractor like power up to 3500 RPM, flattens a bit until 5500, and then pulls REAL hard again on top. It will really surprise you in a good way. Handles very nicely for being as large as it is. Definitely needs an exhaust system, the stock pipes sound annoying and really betray a great motor.

I agree with Michael nicolle ... The photos and videos don't do this bike justice and they are much bigger than you'd believe. You have to see or ride them in person. I just bought a 2014 M109R BOSS with only 435 miles on it! I was looking at the Vrod and Hammer and decided on this beast. The first thing to go on the bike was the chrome turn signals as it just threw everything off. Black LEDs look much better. The torque on this thing is UNREAL! LOVE IT! Plan to hang onto this black n yellow beast for awhile!

Watched this video and your video for the Yamaha Raider as I am considering both. The one thing I did note watching both is your observation of the M109 vibration, the transmission clunk, the kickout when you made one of those first turns and lack of throttle input to get it moving. With the Raider you seemed to like the positioning, the smoothness the torque, the lack of vibration, the suspension was more forgiving and most notably if you were considering a purchase the Raider would be on the list. Both bikes seem to have a learning curve for making turns as both bikes seem to need to be persuaded to turn. Although, that one aspect seemed to be more apparent with the M109 in almost all the videos I have seen. Having an Suzuki Intruder liquid cooled in the past I had one complaint that I hoped Suzuki addressed. It too had some vibration that was apparent at lower rpms. And on two occasions my intruder left me stranded because the radiator sprung leaks at the attachment post to the frame. I am positive that was due to the vibration and the weight of the radiator vs 4 posts attaching it to the frame. Loved the bike..but was not impressed with it happening twice on two different posts. Luckily both times I was in the city and not on a road trip. Your videos have played a big part in helping me choose my next bike which will most likely be the Yamaha Raider. Thanks for the informative honest work.

I ride an 18 109BOSS . It’s very quick and can get you in trouble. The engine hates anything below 2500 rpm .60-65 mph cruising is better done in fourth gear. The transmission is fine as long as you bump it solidly into gears. No wimpy shifts. Should you need more sound and character put an aftermarket exhaust on.

Brendon West, I will start with saying, I love this bike. Had mine for a little over a year now (identical to the one in this video, even same color) and can’t tell you how much I enjoy this bike. I am looking at another bike to add to the stable because this one is a little cumbersome as a daily commuter and around town. It is very stable and controllable if you mind yourself. It really is heavy and wants to go straight so cornering is cumbersome at times. As a first bike I would pass. I would recommend something a little lighter and more maneuverable for a learner. I’ve been riding on roads about 30 years now and this bike does take some finesse to ride. I owned a C90T prior to this one and would say if you look at the M model in the 50 or 90 size may be a better option to start on.

question: does this make sense to you: jumping from a '14 night rod special to a '17 m109r, to avoid the huge costs of maintenance? and how different would they be? (i have the impression they'll be quite similar, but it seems the m109r will offer a bit more of comfort to the passenger, due to its rear suspension.)
@mcmark227 жыл бұрын
The vrod has mechanical lifters that require adjusting. Note that due to tight clearance with the frame you basically have to drop the engine about an inch to adjust the valves. Service techs at my dealer hate them due to the difficulty of doing maintenance.
@DonBSeleh7 жыл бұрын

I had to jump in here when i saw the guy asking about maintanence. Guy sèems to believe suzuki or any other big dealer are cheap on service. I got a dr650. Ancient technology machine. Full service at the suzuki dealer is 425. Thats if nothing like valve adjustment or something like that isnt involved. Its like 600 with valve adjustments. Glad i got a maintanence package. Used the shit outta that plan. Warning u man. The myth of japanese bikes being cheap to run are not true. People need to stop lying about that. All big dealers are expensive now. Mom and pop shops are ur best bet to save a few bucks. Although if u got a warranty u might be stuck with dealer till warranty expires. Also japanese parts are expensive as hell to. Stop lying.

All of the Harley references this guy doing the video makes are completely inaccurate. That bike doesn't feel like a V-Rod at all the V-Rod is tiny compared to this bike and the V-Rod handlebars are farther backwards towards you and the pegs are farther back and its way skinnier. The handlebars on the M109 are not all that far forward and I actually prefer them to be more forward than stock. Same with the foot pegs.. and I'm only 5'9"

fuel injection and computers on a motorcycle guarantee it's lack of longevity. if you are one to buy a bike because you plan on keeping it then odds are any of the newer bikes won't fit the bill. smooth and refined is nice but like the reviewer said..."it's mechanical". all of the bikes i have tried out over the past five years have lacked what one would term"soul". it's not that it's a bad thing and the plug and play nature of these later model rides is right down most modern riders alley,as it were. old school folks(pre-fuel injection riders) though won't find the same feel or experience from these bikes in cruiser or sport trim. i find it a bit disappointing that like cars today...bikes are becoming homogeneous in nature and the experience of riding(as well as that of driving cars)is lacking because of it. i imagine it is...after all.....a matter of preference of experience at the end of the day. and to those who think i may be a harley rider....nope! '84 honda vf1100s/ '84 rz350 kr replica/'77 kz1000 sit in my shop and all three get ridden regularly :-) no matter what your preference though...a day on two wheels beats out a day on four anytime!
