GSX-R1000 still has the longest stroke engine in the liter class by a good margin, even though they shortened the stroke a little in 2017. So the mid-range power is naturally still there more than the others, but with VVT the top end is no longer limited.
@samuelcurran714

I think after looking at how beautifully elegant Suzuki's VVT is I don't care what their dash is like as long as there's a speedo and taco.

I tested both 2017 Fireblade SP and 2017 GSXR1000 (and 2017 S1000RR) on the same day on local hills. I much rather liked GSXR1000. I sat on it and immediately I felt like I've been riding this bike for ages. It has character to the engine, unlike the smooth-as-silk SP. Also, the throttle response on GSXR is direct, on SP there is "play" in the throttle handle and there is "play" in the brake lever, I just did not like that. Moreover, the review of base Fireblade on track in Austria also mentions the vague behavior of the throttle handle. Base GSXR REALLY NEEDS quickshifter, I agree! The engine is so good that it simply needs a quickshifter. Instrumentation is just fine by me, it follows the typical "industrial" theme of Suzuki. Same goes for the finish, it is TYPICAL Suzuki GSXR. The welds are not as bad as I expected! The frame is ridiculously thin, unbelievable how it carries 200hp superbike! Exhaust..who cares, it will be replaced, Suzuki did the right thing, BUT even with the stock exhaust the bike sounds fantastic, better than SP imho! As far as price is concerned, you have to compare to base Fireblade...on which you do not really have to bin the end can and which has slide control (Suzuki does not use the 6-axis IMU fully and does not have slide control). Same goes for GSXR1000 R-version, it is a bit cheaper than SP, BUT it does not have Ohlins and it does not have slide control, and it is 7-8kg heavier. So, relatively speaking, Honda Fireblade SP is actually well priced. What I would choose? GSXR1000R! (Unless I go RSV4RF way).

@10secondsrule 7 жыл бұрын
Serge Go why do you need quickshifter on the road? is not going to save you precious tens of the second? Haven't you heard of clutchless upshifts? I only use clutch in 1st gear which you would have to use anyway. Now autoblipper on the other hand would be nice.

I think Suzuki did put quite a lot of effort into the can actually. I believe they made it like that with the cat inside it. So you can buy a slip on and it's be the same as a full system.
@crisray6789
@crisray6789 7 жыл бұрын
I agree about the exhaust, its also more convenient to have all the emissions in one big chunk that can be removed with a slip on rather than some set ups with the cats in the header pipes and mid pipes that necessitate a full system.

Lamb Chop's, love your quick and condensed tests without too much babble. For this test for the Suze it's interesting being on the stock version as most jump on the R. I like the cut of her jib and I'm not a great Suzuki fan. The R version has titanium head bits and pieces and special suspension to get more weight saving, strength and Ohlins maybe. I loved watching MotoGp last year with the Suzuki coming in fresh after a few years and getting on the podium despite those younger pilots binning it sometimes. Cheers!

Great review especially the bit about the exhaust. I've never owned a GSXR-1000 due to the reach (seat to bars) as i'm a short rider & the stretch wasn't confidence inspiring. The other may well be I'm not great a rider. Having said that I'm glad that Suzuki has really come back into the equation with this GSXR-1000 version.

you know after my 2nd ride on the current Gen R1, I realised after pinning the throttle in second and getting what felt like a good smack in the kidney's, this is what I want my Superbikes to be. I didn't get that feeling with S1000RR or the ZX10R, nor do I get that feeling from my 06 Fireblade. I really hope Suzuki has given us a raw, high HP - "don't care if its hard for you to ride" - motorcycle that wants to wheelie when pinned and makes you shit yourself if you have a twitchy right wrist. I can't wait to try to flog the shit out of this bike.

@cagednm69

The Blade starts from 15.3k OTR. Why would you even compare this base GSXR1000 with the 19.2k OTR SP? The SP's price difference comes from the all new expensive semi-automatic Ohlins suspension., the standard quickshifter, Brembo brakes and a Lithium ion battery. The sum of parts would set you back by more than the 4k price difference if you opted for it later on for the standard Blade. The base Blade has Titanium fasteners, titanium fuel tank and titanium exhaust along with that RC213-V derived colored TFT display dash. That's where the price difference comes from. Also when you say the Suzuki is 13.5k. Are you quoting the RRP or the OTR here?
@LambChopRides
@LambChopRides 7 жыл бұрын
+cagednm69 I was comparing the things which don't change on the stock blade compared to the SP, seating position, torque / power. Obviously suspension etc is better on the SP blade. Also standard blade doesn't have Ti rank or titanium fasteners btw

haha yeah, I do get it actually, they're there to make you go faster, easier and safer. Sometimes I think if MotoGP go back to 500cc two strokes the number of winners will reduce, Rossi and Marquez would be the most frequent winners (well, I'm guessing Marquez would!). Lean ABS and traction and slide control I personally like, quick shifters and blippers are like paddle shifts in cars, I don't want to get used to that. In the end, they should only be safety nets, not something you rely on all the time.

I think I like the new blade the most out of all the current 1000cc supersports to be honest. But unfortunately the blade is restricted to 120bhp or something silly like that where I live (Thailand), and it's not just a single ECU tweak away from regaining its full power mind you, they really did the whole shebang to it to kill 50+ ponies from that engine which is a damn shame really. And the base gixxer costs the same as a zx10r here so it looks like it's the Kawasaki that'll be my litre bike of choice when I eventually decide to upgrade.

Owned three 600 supersprots,never drove a 1000 . In the market for a new 2017 bike choices are super duke 1290, April tuono , and gsxr1000. I'm afried of giving up lane splitting highway speeds with the nakeds but never drove either three options . I figure the nakeds are the same as the 600 super sport so possible to be bored with them?

A budget friendly bike that is fun to ride is the GSX-S naked. Based off the old GSXR 1000 (2005) motor. Obviously not as much power as the 2017 GSXR 1000 but its a blast for about $9k; insurance is much cheaper on a naked too. Supersport rates are high!

Been waiting for this one since it was first announced a few years ago (even going as far as to avoid riding the old thou'). Plus side with that exhaust can - no need for a decat pipe, it's all in the slipon and I'm sure mr. Yoshimura already has a very sleek looking can to partner it nicely. Yess but still they were like "meh" over the Hionda so they`re in fact weird ppl.. The suzuki won the acceleration aspcet the ducati won lap times so you get more drama the THRILL much better to have this on the street.. i owned a HP4 and a suzuki zx10r gen4 and the same thing the zx10r was much more hooligan and you had a much bigger smile under the helmet every time.. But hey in UK they have always like the CBR escpecially when she came in 08 it always been the all around solid bike but it nevver has gotten THE THING THE DRAMA!! So its basically down to presonal preference.. In my gang we feel the Honda bald and yea kinda like MEH still a great bike but no drama..This is why most ppl love the 04-05 zx10r GOD DAYM what a fun bike that is!!

Almost impossible to enforce though. Cops would need to look at motorcycles, see what year they are, then figure out if the exhaust is stock or not. Seems like a colossal waste of time and effort too me. Government is way to busy doing this nonsense, rather than focusing on a real issue. Motorcyclists are already a minority and then new bikes are even smaller minority of that haha.

Right. Anyway, a Yoshi can is an official Suzuki part these days, doesn't affect the warrantee. There is a massive aftermarket in exhausts for cars and bikes, the UK Gov wants manufacturers like Yoshi and Akrapovic to sell their stuff, it's good for the economy.

Yes I do care about mpg on a sports bike, but I certainly wouldn't say it's the most important thing. I am old, therefore I am a bit oldschool, so I don't really see the need for a quick shifter or even rider aids for that matter. And before you say, this old man hasn't ridden a modern sports bike with nearly 200 HP. I currently ride a 2012 ZX14R and out run most the younger guys I have ridden with on newer lighter bikes, and that's in corners and windy roads. Most everyone is amazed by how well a ZX14R can corner when it weighs 125+ pounds or more that there 600 or 1000cc bike. I'm looking for a used CBR1000RR low miles good condition for under $10k. 2012 or newer I'm looking at a 2017 CBR1000RR right now with less than one thousand miles on it.

With today's ECU flash options, you can get a quickshifter put on amost every bike made these days, and the aftermarket QS are often calibrated better than factory stuff.

The gsxr felt more comfy to me than the blade, I'm a short guy and the blade felt more cramped specially the foot pegs are higher than the gixer. I'm surprised you felt the opposite :S
@cagednm69
@cagednm69 7 жыл бұрын
then it wasn't the Blade you sat on. As a 6 foot 3 person the Blade has much more space to move around on and its always been the comfortable street SBK for the tall guys. The new Blade is less wider than the old one but it felt just as accommodating for my 3 feet legs to fold into.

cagednm69 instagram.com/p/BSkpUrDjuYO/ Maybe the Thai spec is smaller, lol! This is at the Motor Show in Bangkok and I have other pictures from the gsxr that proves what I'm saying can see clearly that the pegs are higher in the blade.

INFINITYCL To be honest with you I agree. It's about time Suzuki and the rest didn't put such a piece of shit looking exhaust on their top of the range product. We shouldn't have to immediately spend more money replacing an exhaust system on a brand new top of the range product. The bike should be fitted with a stylish good looking good sounding exhaust system out of the box.

I own a K5 model. It has $6K in the motor. I also own a 2015 BMW S1000RR. My question is .... why is the bike cutting power in a straight line with TC set at maximum ????? There is ZERO wheel slip !!!!!! It seems as if it's more of a throttle control than traction control like that POS Bazzaz TC unit. I can max out my TC setting on my S1000RR and still haul ass as long as there's NO wheel slip (no power cut). See my point ???
@LambChopRides
@LambChopRides 7 жыл бұрын
+lou30088 it's a very good point and something I didn't ask myself until I was editing the video! Not sure and your right seems like a crappy preset traction mode not related to wheel slip in that instance
@AJTalks
@AJTalks 7 жыл бұрын
T.C-10 is designed to literally be able to travel over a muddy field without loosing traction. It limits the torque to allow the front and rear wheel to accelerate at the same speed which is ideal in very low traction scenarios.

Pretty sure it does have one from OEM. My S1000RR has one and it shakes just like that. But when I think about it I think its from the power of these fucking bikes. They just have too much power which cause them to do the little shake thing.

+sid jones yes a good qs enables you to change gear smoothly throughout the rev range. It's not just about top end shifts makes town riding easier also 👍 I must confess many of these oem qs systems are not great at low speed changes however.. check out translogic they make the perfect quick shifter, works at any revs smooth as butter

+sid jones yes agree it's not for everyone hence why they have the option of a more expensive bike with these extra toys. I think it's one of those things you have to try to appreciate, a good qs is certainly not just a performance aid hence why bikes like the GS now have one

Sadly a common theme in LCR vids are his apparent untethered willingness to break the speed limit laws. His reviews are pretty good in the large and he is a likeable geezer but its only a matter of time he will come across a pedestrian or broken down car or something. Do your speed testing on the track.
